I contacted my insurance company today to ask about the price of the meds for triple treatment. A 3 month supply of interferon, ribavirin, & Victrelis would cost $180.00 (so about $60 a month) I thought it was going to be a lot higher. But I forgot to ask about "rescue drugs". Not sure how that works and how much that would be. Any one have an idea?

Small correction – according to my pharmacy the retail cost for a month's Pegasys is $2429 and for Ribasphere $1668 for a total of roughly $4,000 per month. Most health plans negotiate a discount with the drug company so that is not necessarily the price you will see in their reports. For example, my health provider pays $420 for the Ribasphere and $1,800 for the Pegasys which is much closer to the figure you quoted.

I don’t know which interferon you are prescribed, Pegasys or PEG-Intron. Quite often, our insurance companies will cover the cost of ribavirin for a nominal co-pay; however, the interferon is excluded from the Rx side of the plan, but covered under major medical, which is probably why you are seeing the high co-pay. I’d encourage you to call one of the following numbers and ask about their Patient Assistant Plan (PAP).

Triple treatment cost with Incivek, Ribapak, and Pegasys is about $20,000 (may be a couple thousand more) per month. That is what insurance companies are billed approx. I was on rib and Pegasys and my cost was around 50,000 for these 2 drugs for 24 weeks. I had a prescription drug Insurance since I am over 65 . I have to carry prescription drug coverage or else we are fined where we live . I have Medicare and a supplement to Medicare for Dr.'s . and Hospitals. My drug coverage is 34.00 a month with a 325.00 deductible. With max out pocket of 5500.00 per year. but with out this drug coverage it would have run around 50,000.

You look too young for that to be an issue. Lucky you. Do you know when you were exposed to Hep C? A biopsy which cost $$ is the way to find out the condition of your liver. Get insurance. Get tested. Then decide if and when you need to be treated. Good luck.

My insurance pays a big deal, buy it is still costing me $200 a month for this at walgreens, I cannot afford this through the whole cycle of ribavirin and pegasys. Is there any way to get around this cost?

Continuing with pegasys. Now no sides except for its cost. Will complete 48 weeks treatment at the end of this month. Will do hbsag in iu/ml and hbsab.

Most drug companies either have a program that will help or can recommend them in your area. I suggest you start by calling Schering if that is the company supplying Pegasys. My tax person wants to know what the entire cost of treatment is even though my insurance is paying. I believe she's trying to get me an exemption on the allowable deductible I can take for Medical Expenses. Does any one know what the cost of interferon and riboviran is?

C and am going to start a research study for tretment with the PEGASYS and ribavivrin drugs. I have Blue Cross/ Anthem insurance but have a 30% copay for the injections and 40% copay for the pills, which will be about $900 a month out of pocket expence. since this is a non elective tretment i dont have a choice but to get the treatment, but i do need help paying for it. Is there any kind of program that will help me offset the copay cost for this program?

Can only tell you what it costs here in the USA. The total treatment costs around $50-60,000 USD. This is for someone needing to do 48 weeks of treatment. Some treatments are for only 24 weeks so that would be around $30,000. The cost is aprox for ALL the injections and the pills that are part of the treatment. There are new drugs coming out next year that will be added to the current drugs, Peg-interferon & Ribavirin. The first one out should be Telaprevir.
