pacemaker

Avatar n tn If a patient continues to have the hole, there is the possiblity (POSSIBILITY) that he could develop chronic heart failure, however, this would be extremely rare and by no means, the norm. Patients would have surgery and the issue would disappear. Like I said, most people live normal lives even though they still have a small hole in their heart.
Avatar f tn My 2 month old granddaughter had complete av canal surgery on her heart. They removed the pacemaker 3 days ago and her heart rate has been fine. However, last night it dropped to 70 bpm and they plugged the pacemaker back in. Why would it beat fine for 3 days and then misfire? Just trying to get some ideas.
Avatar n tn That treatment may include a Pacemaker (PM). How invasive is this surgery? Is it as bad as and Open Heart ByPass? I need information. Can anyone help us?
Avatar n tn Thank you very much for the answer. she had DORV, PS, VSD, ASD. Fontan intracardic surgery done with mitral valve repair. Is the pace maker can solve the synus dysfunction?, what about the ventricular function in the future? does it give her any problem. Is there any precuations to be taken?. Thank you very much again.
Avatar f tn s a great resource for the community. Their care is excellent and their Pediatric Refractive Surgery unit likely the best in the world.
306245 tn?1244384967 okay Chris is FINALLY scheduled for his ED test (electrophsiology test (EP) that will take place on the 5th of June. they said he wasn't scheduled for a pacemaker and knew nothng about it. WHAT!!!! so I am trying to contact his primary cardiokogist and get to the bottom of this. I was under the impression that he WAS going to get his pacemaker since they feel he passed out with a low HR. what are the risk to the EP test.
Avatar f tn My 15 year old daughter had a pacemaker put in on 7/15/13. Due to severe staph infection it was removed on 8/15/13. She continues on IV antibiotics here at home. Her current pediatric cardiologist has made the decision to leave a "vegetation" on her upper right heart valve. Her blood cultures have remained negative for over a week now. I feel as though since the removal of the pacemaker, he seems to not want much to do with her. SO, I am looking to get a second opinion.
Avatar f tn hello...I was just diagnosed with Chiari Malformation I and I am looking at surgery more than likely next month... my greatest concern about the surgery is that I am not comfortable with the cauterization of the cerebellar tonsils...there are posts with information as to the function they have with other posts saying they have no function or that docotors can't say for sure what their function is so why not leave them alone until we find out?...
Avatar f tn She had irregular heart beats since utero, but went undiagnosed for 2 years. At 3, she had a pacemaker put in for a 2nd degree heart block. Now, at 7 years old and only 38lbs, she is having bouts of 180-200bpm, at resting rate. Pacemaker has been recording these bouts for 4 years now. Nurse explained to me that her pacemaker is constantly kicking in when it shouldn't be (70-100bpm), even though it's set at 60bpm.
Avatar n tn Doctors decided to wait until she showed definite signs of necessity for the pacemaker. She was diagnosed almost three years ago and still has not had a pacemaker put it because she is dealing with the heartblock okay at this time. I can tell you that she appears as normal as the next child and plays very hard. She runs circles around her older brother and is a lively, extremely active little girl. My friend found a support group online for pediatric heartblock....
61536 tn?1340698163 I would certainly have any child whose heart rate falls in the 50s range evaluated by a good pediatric cardiologist. On a side note, Medhelp also has a Pediatric Cardiology forum for parents to discuss their children's issues and to vent their fears. You are all welcome to visit us over on that patient site as well.
Avatar f tn Dear Shabna, The reason that there are 2 incisions for the pacemaker placement is that your child is an infant, which means that the pacemaker is an epicardial pacemaker system. This means that the pacemaker leads have to be attached to the outside of the heart, and this is separate from the placement of the pacemaker generator in the abdomen. Your father, as an adult with large blood vessels, has a transvenous pacemaker system.
Avatar n tn i had 3 open heart surgery and on my 2nd. pacemaker.. my first pacemaker last me for 18yrs. and just got my 2nd. pacemaker Dec.2006.. my pacemaker was implanted in my upper chest on the right side.. only thing i hate the surgery doctor told me he would use the same cut as the other pacemaker but when i woke up he cut me in another spot.. well i can say.. ask your doctor his he using the same cut as the first pacemaker was in..
Avatar n tn It would be wise to arrange evaluations with both a pediatric neurologist and a pediatric gastroenterologist. Teething would not explain what you are observing.
Avatar n tn Most of the time though when somebody refers to tachycardia, they are referring to a sinus tachycardia meaning the rate is coming from the sinus node (this is the normal pacemaker for the heart) and is greater than 100 bpm. The only reason why a rhythm is originating from somewhere other than the sinus node is because there is some abnormality.

Avatar f tn My mother had her pacemaker replaced in March 09 She went for a pacemaker check today. She has had arrhytmias the past several months so she has an appt next week to see her doc. What causes arrhytmias even when you have a pacemaker. Is this normal? Pacemakers are supposed to treat this, right?
Avatar n tn Lately it has been getting more frequent and this last incident she experienced terrible cramping and foul vomiting. When she was 4 years old she had intestinal surgery in Europe, where they thought that her intestines were in a knot, but they were not. She had her appendix removed during this procedure and a small portion of her intestines. Other than this she has had no other problems concerning her bowels. She tries to hide it, but the smell is terrible!
Avatar f tn I had my surgery done dr harold rekate he was an awesome pediatric surgeon! He was in AZ but I believe he just moved the the chiari institute... I can check my paperwork and verify where he moved to if you are interested.
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
