Paxil withdrawal zaps

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil withdrawal zaps

paxil

Avatar m tn What I would do is try taking a healthy dose of fish oil every day and see if it helps -- many people have reported this helps with the brain zaps. If the withdrawal eases, you're home free. If it gets worse or particularly if it turns emotional, I'd go back on the Paxil and taper off more slowly. But if it's just brain zaps and nothing else, I'd give it a couple days and try the fish oil.
Avatar f tn t want to hear this, but tapering as slowly as you need to is the only safe way to come off this med (or many others as well, but especially Paxil). And that pace of tapering is different for everyone. As for the dizziness and the zaps, a healthy dose of fish oil can be very helpful, and you might also try some ginger (in supplement or juiced form). Some find using St. John's Wort after stopping completely is helpful, some don't.
1423357 tn?1511085442 So what I would do is taper off the Effexor as slowly as need be until withdrawal is successfully overcome before starting the Paxil. That way, she'll know if what she's feeling is the withdrawal or the new drug. Also, keep in mind that once you stop Paxil it often doesn't work again or has to be at a higher dose -- it's just a strong and peculiar drug.
Avatar f tn Why did you stop Paxil? As with any SSRI, it is not advised to just quit cold turkey; my suggestion is to taper off of it which would really help with many of your symptoms. Also, I assume you have a prescription for the Allegra as well, but you might want to be careful what you read on forums on the internet. I could type in 'cheeseburgers and paxil withdrawal" and probably get a taper schedule to follow.
Avatar n tn How quickly did you go off the Paxil to the Zoloft? It sounds like you've got some withdrawal mixed in with side effects, especially since the Paxil is making you feel better. It's a very tough drug to quit for many people, and if you move quickly from drug to drug you don't know if it's withdrawal from the old drug or the new drug.
Avatar m tn I was on Paxil for a short time (6 months) NEVER AGAIN, everything started going bad since I have stopped taking the meds. I have not taken Paxil in over 2 years and still get the Zaps. I have started smoking pot instead of the man made scary drugs, when I was on Paxil all I could think about was ways to try and end my life, it was so scary.
Avatar m tn What kind of therapist? First, you didn't have OCD because there was no C, you just had O. Second, you quit Paxil without consulting a psychiatrist? It can be murder or it can be easy or in between, everyone's different, but it should never be done without careful weaning with a psychiatrist who understands Paxil withdrawal, and most don't. As to how long you'll suffer, nobody can tell you that because we all have different experiences and metabolisms.
Avatar n tn I am a 20 year old, 5'2", 115lb. female and for the past year or so I've been on Paxil, but my entire experience with Paxil is that it makes me nauseous and shake no matter how long I take it for. My body can't seem to get over the side-effects, so for a while I was only taking the Paxil every three to four days (they were extended-release pills) and I seemed to be alright. But for the past few weeks I decided to try to get off Paxil completely.
Avatar m tn I felt like I had the flu and very achy. Very bad withdrawal effects. I was then put on regular paxil 40 mg daily and I constantly had the eye zaps and strong depersonalization feelings like I was in a constant withdrawal. I was then switched to Lexapro 20 mg. It seemed better than the Paxil but I was still getting the eye zaps and depersonalization but to a lesser extent.
944223 tn?1245869858 You have typical ssri withdrawal. Paxil can be particularly bad, so if this is all you have, you're actually doing very well. Fish oil supplements have been known to help with the brain zaps. If it gets worse than you can handle, go back on the last dose of Paxil you were on and taper more slowly. But as I say, you might at this point want to just try the fish oil and get plenty of exercise, since it sounds like a mild withdrawal.
704329 tn?1518523098 ve talked to my doctor about the withdrawal symptoms and was told that Paxil is pretty much the worst for withdrawal symptoms but it's very effective which is the reason they still use it. Ultimately talk to your doctor. Psychology is still a very young area of medicine and as such the docs can't always tell you what is going on.
Avatar f tn I have been looking for a term - for the effect of SSRI withdrawal. Mine don't zap as much as it feels as if my brain swells right between the temples. No pain. No dizziness. I need the right word. When I say "vertigo", everyone thinks something else. Anyway ... I had it w/ Paxil and am now experiencing (delayed) with coming off Prozac. I won't go back on antidepressants - but am wondering what to call this - maybe brain zaps work.
Avatar n tn I am 66, how long will paxil withdrawal last for me? I have been taking it dor 12 years.
Avatar f tn I haven't taken Cymbalta or Paxil, so I can't give a personal withdrawal experience for those specific drugs. However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
Avatar n tn What are your symptoms now? Usually withdrawal canl include nausea, anxiety, headaches, brain zaps, trouble sleeping and other possible symptoms.
Avatar f tn Do a search on the forum about Paxil withdrawal symptoms.I went on it for a while and my doctor said its good for anxiety and is non addictive!not only was it worse for my condition-it increased my anxiety, but getting off it was a nightmare!Brain zaps, extreme anxiety insomnia etc.speak to your doctor about this possibility.
1167245 tn?1353878500 I'm currently experiencing the difficult-to-describe sensation of brain zaps, brain shivers, or whatever you want to call them. I had them very frequently while withdrawing off of Lexapro, an SSRI notorious for causing this withdrawal symptom. The problem I'm having now is that I'm NOT withdrawing off of anything right now; my medication cocktail is pretty stable.
611559 tn?1233776445 I have taken Effexor XR for about 5 years, which followed a course of Paxil. The Paxil was preceded by a course of Zoloft. The anti-depressants were given to me because I have a physical disability with chronic pain, and anxiety that began at the same time as the pain. Anxiety was the worst, but as my life tanked from inability to do many things, the depression grew. Zoloft did not help much; I gained 60 lbs. on Paxil. When switching from Paxil to Effexor, I lost about 20 of the 60lbs.
Avatar n tn No idea if you are still reading this, but wondering how everything went with weaning off of paxil. I was on paxil for 10 years, since I was 17, I am now 27 and just weaned myself off 3 months ago. The withdrawal symptoms are real, the "zaps", oh so real! Any doctor that says paxil has no withdrawal symptoms just has no clue what they are talking about! Paxil is not a good drug!
Avatar f tn The brain zaps caused by going off something like Paxil are believed to be caused by the serotonin receptors that the body no longer needed while on the med begin waking up again when the med is absent. If there's no med withdrawal, then this is weird indeed.
1042487 tn?1275279899 I've read that brain zaps can be handled with a hefty daily dose of fish oil. I suspect you're already taking some, though. Paxil withdrawal, as you know, took my life from me, but I didn't get brain zaps reputedly because I was already taking fish oil.
Avatar f tn A lot of people don't get withdrawal. A lot do. Those two drugs aren't the worst for withdrawals. Prozac stays in the body for about a month, whereas the other ssris such as Zoloft leave in a matter of a day or less. So if there is going to be a withdrawal from Prozac, it's usually so long after quitting that shrinks probably don't attribute it to the Prozac.
