Paxil withdrawal syndrome

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil withdrawal syndrome

paxil

Avatar f tn If you were on Paxil for 17 years straight, quitting can be very very difficult. Lexapro won't make it any easier since it's a different drug. You were on a very low dose of Paxil, but still, that's a long time, and Paxil packs a heck of a withdrawal for many people. So it could be that. Someone on it for that long would usually taper off very slowly. It could also be that being on it that long has burned you out for ssris. Who knows?
Avatar m tn Me too. I wasn't told either, and though I didn't stop cold turkey, I've lost three and a half years and counting. But you say it's getting better, so it looks like you're doing way better than I am. There are a lot of things I've learned about that I didn't know about then, but you might try a liver cleanse to get toxins out of your system. If you google protracted withdrawal syndrome there's a site that offers a treatment, but I don't know if it works.
Avatar m tn Without knowing more about your situation I would suggest that it is possible that you had both a withdrawal syndrome and a recurrence syndrome. The withdrawal syndrome (which I think is what you meant by the physiological stuff) was followed by a recurrence of your original symptoms (worse perhaps because of the withdrawal and the lack of good communication from your psychiatrist). I would say that your best strategy is tackle this as if it is a pretty severe depression...
Avatar n tn As to above post, research Protracted Withdrawal Syndrome. The question for the poster is, has this been continuous from when you stopped the Paxil (and why, after all this time and litigation would anyone cold turkey off Paxil?). If so, then yes, you're still in withdrawal. You, too, should then research Protracted Withdrawal Syndrome and then ask yourself why at this late date in the very tragic Paxil story you went off it cold turkey. Even tapering off this drug can cause problems.
Avatar f tn It could be withdrawal from the paxil. Not sure about the herb but you should check with your doctor or pharmacist about any possible interaction. There was an article in our paper several days ago about a woman who had serotonin syndrome for 17 years. It affected her speech, her hands were all twisted. It was terrible. You should ask your doctor about it or ask the doctor on the mental health expert forum.
968908 tn?1274871115 I have also experience this syndrome when 1st starting paxil, My dr wanted me to switch from zoloft to zoloft but wanted me to wean off and had me start the paxil at 10mg. Needless to say it was too much. I had more than trembles and sweats, i had diarerah, my vision was distorted the room looked like it was flipping around me, i was tired beyind belief but could not sleep.
Avatar m tn Wondering if anyone has dealt with long term paxil withdrawal symptoms. Came off of paxil - tapered down to 10mg from 40 mg before stopping. This was the plan from the doc, and I didn't realize at the time what a beast paxil can be and that sometimes you can taper down with the liquid version super slowly. Also took 20mg prozac as a bridge to help with withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I'm trying to get off Paxil by cross tapering with Prozac to minimize withdrawal symptoms. Right now I'm on 10mg paxil. but I'm not sure how to proceed? My doctor said to take 20mg prozac along with 10 paxil for a month which I don't agree with. Thats because I think if prozac stays that long in my system I will also have trouble getting off of it. So my plan is: Week 1) 10mg paxil 10mg prozac. Week 2) 5mg paxil 20mg prozac. Week 3) 0mg paxil 20mg prozac. then stop.
1632202 tn?1302804098 It is 5 days later and I feel just as bad, ready to attempt suicide almost. Even only taking it for 12 days, could I be experiencing SSRI withdrawal syndrome? Could it possibly be Serotonin syndrome?
Avatar f tn My dr. After 10 years changes me from Paxil to Zoloft. I immediately was having withdrawal. Called him and he said to take a Paxil, I did he called me in a new script. But now I'm taking 40 mg Paxil and 100 mg Zoloft. Did he mean to just take one pill or or keep taking my Paxil. I'm not so sure. I felt horrible today threw up after waking up way to late. Very dizzy lightheaded. Balance issues. Bad headache.....this is day 4 I've been on both meds. Anyone have any advice?
Avatar f tn Absolutely positively agree with Paxiled. Your doctor is recommending things that could actually be dangerous. It isn't uncommon to introduce a new med in the same class of meds once the original one (in your case, the Paxil) has been tapered down to an extremely low dose, or, better yet, stopped all together. You shouldn't be concurrently taking these kinds of meds together.
983155 tn?1248700406 My cold turkey withdrawal lasted 12 months off Zoloft. You should get back on Paxil and slowly wean off. Anybody coming here telling me it wasn't withdrawal and was reemerging depression can try cold turkeying after 6 yrs use and see how they feel about their perfect pills.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the club. I tapered off over six weeks, and still ended up with my life destroyed -- been three and a half years now. My psychiatrist also never informed me of withdrawal possibility or that I was in it. Google protracted withdrawal syndrome; there's a site on there that purports to be able to handle this, but I don't know how reliable it is. But you'll at least see you're not alone.
Avatar m tn My doc stated that I could switch over to Lexapro from Paxil so I took both for 2 weeks then dropped Paxil all together. Could I still be feeling the affects of Paxil withdrawal? I felt good after 2 weeks and even tried to come down on my Klonopin a couple of days after my paxil ended. Mistake! Just wanting to know if anybody had the same issues and how long do I need to plan on suffering? This is getting old and I'm ready to feel like my old self again.
Avatar n tn Put him on the internet, type in Paxil withdrawal, and make him sit there and read. And why would you ever go off this med cold turkey? Why does anyone still do this after all the lawsuits and revelations and ten years of publicity?
Avatar f tn Wellbutrin (buproprion) is a relatively weak antidepressant and has a low rate of withdrawal syndrome compared to the SSRIs and SNRIs such as Paxil, Effexor, or Cymbalta.
Avatar f tn that I have finally found a site that actually deals with paxil and the ill effects of withdrawal. I have been on paxil on and off for 30 years after being diagnosed with a chemical imbalance at 17. I am or at least was feeling well and I wanted to try discontinuing paxil to detoxify my body. I did do it gradually which I would advise everyone however even after being off of the pills completely for 3 weeks I still suffer from a sense of hightened response to noise or movement.
Avatar n tn Try taking some fish oil and adaptogenic herbs like ashwandha to help with the Paxil withdrawal, exercise, keep active. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Heroin in far worse physiologically, and Paxil far worse emotionally to withdraw from. And Paxil withdrawal can last a whole lot longer. But the reason it's not addictive is, to be technically considered addictive, you have to need to continually increase the dose to get the same effect. That's not true of ssris. But addiction is actually a medical term that has found it's way into our common lexicon in all kinds of erroneous ways.
Avatar n tn I am a 20 year old, 5'2", 115lb. female and for the past year or so I've been on Paxil, but my entire experience with Paxil is that it makes me nauseous and shake no matter how long I take it for. My body can't seem to get over the side-effects, so for a while I was only taking the Paxil every three to four days (they were extended-release pills) and I seemed to be alright. But for the past few weeks I decided to try to get off Paxil completely.
Avatar n tn those increase in your emotions is normal for paxil. is the same doctor prescribing both meds? are you taking the paxil for depression? the vyvance could definitely also cause an increase in your irritation, anger and rage. i would definitely talk with your doctor.
Avatar m tn I also take Paxil for a sleep disorder (depression-related insomnia) and have for 11+ years. It works wonderously, but I gained 30+ lbs when I started the medication and have tried for years to lose it, unsuccessfully. I will lose some weight - and believe me, it takes an enormous amount of exercise and effort - but inevitably gain it back because Paxil makes my appetite so strong.
Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for approximately seven years, starting at 60mg and tapering down to 30mg as of two years ago. I'm still on that dose. I've experienced the withdrawal symptoms before, when I've forgotten to take my medicine, as well as when I've been in the process of decreasing my dose, but lately, I've been feeling the withdrawal symptoms when I have been taking my medicine regularly.
