Paxil withdrawal symptoms side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil withdrawal symptoms side effects

paxil

Avatar f tn However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
Avatar f tn Your taper off Paxil was way too quick for that drug, and a lot of your symptoms sound more like withdrawal symptoms than side effects of Wellbutrin. But also, wellbutrin is very stimulating and not usually used for anxiety for that reason. Sometimes to deal with the symptoms you were describing from the Paxil wellbutrin will be added, but for primary anxiety it isn't usually a substitute.
983155 tn?1248700406 Thanks! Yeah I am treating depression anxiety and ADHD thats why my doc put me on this. Why does it cause anxiety? Is that dosage really high to start off of.
Avatar n tn the first batch of symptoms you mentioned were definitely withdrawal symptoms. Back when I was first taking Paxil I had gotten really sick and I had forgotten to take my Paxil for two days, and I got even worse. When i told my doctor I had forgotten to take my pills she freaked and told me It was the beginning of a withdrawal and I can NEVER do that again. and My advice if you are thinking of weaning off Prestiq, to talk to the doctor before you start.
10361664 tn?1409609407 This is my opinion, but this isn't a good idea. Paxil is very hard to quit taking and needs to be tapered off of slowly, but it's best to do this before starting a new medication. Zoloft cannot substitute for Paxil, as they're very different in the receptors they target and Paxil is one unique drug.
Avatar m tn I also take Paxil for a sleep disorder (depression-related insomnia) and have for 11+ years. It works wonderously, but I gained 30+ lbs when I started the medication and have tried for years to lose it, unsuccessfully. I will lose some weight - and believe me, it takes an enormous amount of exercise and effort - but inevitably gain it back because Paxil makes my appetite so strong.
Avatar f tn Just to add, it usually take about a month before you start to feel any benefit from Paxil. And plenty of people have negative side-effects during that first month of use. I was one of the lucky ones and didn't have any noticeable side-effects from it during my first month. But if Paxil isn't helping after a month and the side-effects are too great - there are other antidepressants out there that will probably help.
Avatar f tn t tell which problems are withdrawal from the first med and which are side effects of the new med. By the way, Paxil is notorious for weight gain -- I gained a lot of weight on it. What you need is a good psychiatrist, as it sounds like you're trying to do this with a general practitioner.
Avatar n tn This is a dangerous drug that has many side effects and many MANY more withdrawal symptoms. You might as well be on heroin and try to get off. If I could go back, I would have never gotten on Paxil. It helped with panic attacks but gave me about 30 other problems. So to sum up.... when on Paxil you get to look forward to gaining weight, making bad decisions and choices that will affect the rest of your life and coming close to death while trying to get off of this drug from HELL!! P.S.
Avatar n tn I am a 20 year old, 5'2", 115lb. female and for the past year or so I've been on Paxil, but my entire experience with Paxil is that it makes me nauseous and shake no matter how long I take it for. My body can't seem to get over the side-effects, so for a while I was only taking the Paxil every three to four days (they were extended-release pills) and I seemed to be alright. But for the past few weeks I decided to try to get off Paxil completely.
Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for approximately seven years, starting at 60mg and tapering down to 30mg as of two years ago. I'm still on that dose. I've experienced the withdrawal symptoms before, when I've forgotten to take my medicine, as well as when I've been in the process of decreasing my dose, but lately, I've been feeling the withdrawal symptoms when I have been taking my medicine regularly.
Avatar n tn Definitely talkto your doctor...it is possible its side effects from going off the meds, I had the terrible side effects from coming off effexor and they told me to wait it out, 6 weeks Ispent in the house, lost my job and everything, finally i put yself back on it and the side effects went away......you might be very sensitive to the pills like me and have to wean off more slowly...how did you wean off?
Avatar m tn I took one Lexapro a month ago. Severe symptoms, couldn't eat or sleep for 4 days, terrible depression, anxiety hundreds of times worse than what I took the 10mg pill for. Obsessing about suicide. Doctor says side effects don't last that long. Still having trouble sleeping, eating, I don't know if I'm going to get through this. Does it ever go away? Where can I go? Who knows anything?
Avatar f tn Hello, my doctor put me on Remeron(generic) about a month and 1/2 ago to help with the withdrawl symptoma of the Paxil that I was getting off of. The Remeron (15mg) did a great job at that.... kept my anxiety down and let me sleep but hasn't really helped with my obssesive racing thoughts/worry . I've now been on Prozac (worked wonders for me 15yrs ago) for about 12 days and still on the Remeron. Two nights ago I began to tapper off of the Remeron. I went down to 7.
Avatar n tn How quickly did you go off the Paxil to the Zoloft? It sounds like you've got some withdrawal mixed in with side effects, especially since the Paxil is making you feel better. It's a very tough drug to quit for many people, and if you move quickly from drug to drug you don't know if it's withdrawal from the old drug or the new drug.
Avatar m tn i am currently withdrawing from paxil because of bad side effects, but it did take away my depression, it didnt do anything for anxiety. i take this herb called kratom for anxiety and it works very well.
944223 tn?1245869858 t taper of SSRIs like Paxil there can be unwanted side effects to include what you are describing in my opinion. That is why it is essential not to quit these medications cold turkey. For me, tapering slowly minimized these side effects and they will go away...keep us posted!
Avatar m tn There are also plenty of other antidepressnts out there to try without as many side effects as Paxil, but I need to say that Paxil is infamous for the bad withdrawl experience, so if you are sensitive to withdrawling, this might not be the best option. I hope some of this helps and hope you get aor hold of your doctor soon. If you are currently suicidal or have plans to hurt yourself, go to the nearest ER or call a hotline 1.800.479.3339.
Avatar f tn I have been taking paxil for about a year and just recently talked to my doctor about discontinuing it due to its side effects. I've been on 40 mg. So, two weeks ago I met with my doctor and she told me how to start tapering off the paxil. I'm worried that I'm not tapering it off slow enough but don't exactly know what course to take. She said take it every other day for a week, then take it every 3 days for two weeks and then stop.
Avatar f tn I say this because many of the withdrawal syptoms mentioned here, I have experienced as minor side effects to my Paxil use. I once missed two days of my meds (at 20mg) and at exactly 48 hours off my dose,I experienced "hot flush-like sweats" and I became quite irritable. The slightest negative thing or comment to me would set me off like a stick of dynamite.
Avatar f tn No one can call anything in for me. I have all the side effects of withdrawal. Flu like symptoms, headaches, insomnia, extreme irritability, panic attacks and hypnic jerks. And I still have 11 days to go... What can I do to alleviate at least some of the side effects for a few days until I get my appointment? I've been told that I can take benedryl. Does this actually help? Someone suggested the ER but I worry they 1) won't help me and 2) will look at me like some kind of addict.

Avatar m tn s working. I was Paxil for several years, and the side effects changed over time, and I was on imipramine for several years and the side effects changed over time and then it stopped working and I'm on Lexapro and the side effects have changed over time. Just the nature of the beast.
Avatar n tn I have been on Paxil for the past 6 years and it got me through some hard times without any side effects really. I feel it is time for me to come off of it. I had tried to come off once before but i experienced withdrawals in the first week such as inability to get an erection yet very easy to orgasm. Also i just didnt feel well. Do these symptoms last, or fade away? That really is the only thing keeping me on this med. I just want to come off of it and feel normal again Thanks.
Avatar n tn I just switched from Paxil to Zoloft after being on Paxil for 5 years. I am having severe nausea, but no ther side effects. Has this happened to anyone else?
Avatar m tn I know how to ween myself off it but it ,as many people know, has terrible withdraw side effects. One of the side effects I am having is my anxiety attacks are coming back the same as they were before all of the medication. I am perscribed to xanex. If I take xanex ocationally in this period of Paxil withdraw will that harm me?? Are the anxiety attacks just a side effect that will go away after the withdraws are gone?? NOTE: I dont have anxiety issues any more I THINK. But they have come back.
Avatar m tn Prozac stays in the body a long time, whereas Paxil leaves the body very quickly. That means Prozac is much less likely to have withdrawal effects than Paxil, but then, so do most meds! If you're treating depression, they are theoretically interchangeable, but the reality is, everyone is different. Paxil seems to be stronger than other ssris, possibly because of its larger effect on choline receptors, which accounts for some its difficulties.
Avatar m tn I take the pill at night, no set time just once a day at night, and I’ve read that Paxil withdrawal symptoms can start hours after a missed dose, but would this effect me having only been on it Since mid December? I’ve never missed a dose but I don’t take them at the same time everyday, would it even be embedded in my system enough for it to cause withdrawals if I missed a dose by a couple hours?
