I have had a similar issue with Paxil for years, and it's extremely frustrating. I gained 30 lbs when I first started that drug and haven't been able to take it off. I will lose a few lbs. with great effort, but it always comes back. I have been hesitant to get off Paxil because it works so well for my insomnia (which was the result of depression and anxiety). My doctor tells me the same thing - it's not the Paxil. I think that's **** as well.

I've been anxious for at least the past two, maybe three months. The physical symptoms started about a month ago -- I've had tingling in my arms, legs and sometimes head, fatigue, weakness and minor headaches. Sabrina, yes paxil,like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.

Does anyone know about how long it will take once I wean off the 5mgs of paxil i was taking to start losing weight? i have been consistantly gaining ever since I started paxil 3 years ago. I get depressed of have a crying jag acutally and i seem to have to go back on it so I keep it in my house at all times.

Gained 50 pounds on Paxil, lost most when I went off but only because withdrawal drove me so crazy I couldn't eat. Now on Lexapro, gaining weight again. On the other hand, that's not why I went off Paxil, I didn't like the weight gain, but like bastel, it was a heck of a lot better than not being able to go anywhere.

Ive been on paxil and clonazepam for 12 years and have been great every since.

So I went to my doctor and asked for wellbutrin hopeing I could lose weight and quit sleeping all the time on the paxil. But it has been 2 weeks now and my period started 2 days into it I am crying , feel like pukeing. Will this help me???

I was wondering, at what dosage did you notice a gain or loss of weight? I've read about people either gaining or losing weight, but no one says what dosage they're on. I'm taking 25mg right now and the doc and I were talking of moving me to 50mg. Standing at a whopping 5ft, I of course worry about the weight gain.

People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. Hi Lori, I just wanted to say I am on this journey with you. I've been on Lexapro for five years (with the ocassional break). I have acute chronic anxiety and panic attacks. I have done research about the side effects from taking Paxil but their website says weight gain is a possibility and mentions nothing about the loss of energy. I was told by my doctor that the Zoloft should not make you gain weight, I had a similar situation with the Paxil. I told my doctor that I was unhappy with the weight gain that I had with Paxil. And she told to try the Zoloft instead. However that was almost four years ago, and I was not on the Zoloft nearly as long as I was with the Paxil. Paxil is notorious for weight gain. Gained 50 pounds on it myself. Also known for side effects and difficulty quitting. Try the Prozac. Save the Paxils and Effexors for last.

At any rate, there are many substitutes. The good thing about prozac is it does not have the side effects of weight gain or loss of sexual interest. There are five or six other standard medications, and you can only decide on the right one by trial and error.
