paxil caused me to gain 40 pounds which i was almost able to lose through hard exercise and diet but then got pregnant... just work out it will come off, but it may be a little stubborn.

I have done research about the side effects from taking Paxil but their website says weight gain is a possibility and mentions nothing about the loss of energy. I feel like I cannot accomplish anything because of all the sleep I require. Im 24 and I went from a size 1 to a size 7. I have decided against my doctor's wishes to stop taking this medication. Gained 50 pounds on Paxil, lost most when I went off but only because withdrawal drove me so crazy I couldn't eat. Now on Lexapro, gaining weight again. On the other hand, that's not why I went off Paxil, I didn't like the weight gain, but like bastel, it was a heck of a lot better than not being able to go anywhere.

I've been on Paxil for almost 2 years and have noticed a weight gain as well. Which I find strange because one of the side effects is loss of appatite (sp), but I noticed the complete opposite! There are other medications where weight gain is less of a side effect. I've been on most of them and fortunately never experienced the weight gain. Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.

I am with a new Dr now and as you know, they all seem to have different opinions about meds. My current Dr days the Paxil has a side effect of weight gain which I don't want or need and also that cardiac problems are now being linked to Paxil as well. I asked the pharmacist about this and she confirmed it to be true. I haven't taken Wellbutrin for depression but have taken it to quit smoking so I think she was trying to kill two birds with one stone with the Wellbutrin.

Sabrina, yes paxil,like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Unfortunately, the side of effects of going off Paxil are worse than the weight gain. I was weaned off by my psychiatrist four years ago and ended up in the hospital for a month. I immediately went back on it. Unfortunately for me it's a lose/lose situation.

Hard to imagine any psychiatrist or doctor allowing you to gain 100 pounds without having said something about Paxil being notorious for weight gain. If you choose to go back on it, you might try consulting a book called the Anti-Depressant Survival Guide by Hedaya -- it suggests dietary changes to help with this kind of side effect. I am not sure on what pills will cause weight gain and ones that won't but I am on citalopram and I have not gained any weight and since I started having anxiety problems I lost twenty pounds but I think thats because I just didn't feel like eating.

When I first went on paxil i was on 12.5mg and I gained 20+ pounds. Then I went off of it a year later because of the weight gain. I am now back on it but my doctor put me on 20mg and I do not have the increase in appetite i don't know why this is, but i am very happy with it!! maybe try going up to 20?

It's the Paxil -- big weight gainer! All of these meds for depression can cause weight gain, and it has nothing to do with normal metabolism. I exercised a lot and didn't eat any more, and gained 50 pounds over a period of years. You'll see reports of it with any antidepressant. i never gained any weight from klonopin but why you on both they same pill benz, should not be on both are you coming off xanax all together, klonopin is a much better med and long term us .
