Sabrina, yes paxil,like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.

I've been anxious for at least the past two, maybe three months. The physical symptoms started about a month ago -- I've had tingling in my arms, legs and sometimes head, fatigue, weakness and minor headaches. I went to my doctor today and she seems to really think it's anxiety, but I'm just waiting on the blood work results. But I've also noticed some weight loss, particularly in my legs.

5 months and my anxiety is coming back, and havent lost any of the weight either. I need to go back on Paxil but need to find a way to battle the weight gain. I have heard combining Wellbutrin can help with maintaining but I have read more success stories with Topamax.

paxil caused me to gain 40 pounds which i was almost able to lose through hard exercise and diet but then got pregnant... just work out it will come off, but it may be a little stubborn.

Whatever you do needs to be changes in your eating/exercise habits that can be sustained for the rest of your life or you will continue to lose/gain/lose/gain........ Healthy eating and moderate exercise are the keys to permanent weight loss, provided that you don't have underlying medical issues.

I have done research about the side effects from taking Paxil but their website says weight gain is a possibility and mentions nothing about the loss of energy. I feel like I cannot accomplish anything because of all the sleep I require. Im 24 and I went from a size 1 to a size 7. I have decided against my doctor's wishes to stop taking this medication. I am wheaning myself off slowly because of the horrible withdrawl sysmptoms such as severe dizziness and nausea.

People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. I actually lost weight while taking an SSRI, but I think it had to do a lot more with a normal exercise routine and watching what I ate.

As I said before, it didn't increase my urge to eat a bit, and I still gained over 50 pounds on it. Weight gain, weight loss, just weird stuff. But I've been on a lot of Paxil sites, and most everyone gained a lot of weight on it. Personally, can't live without my exercise, not that it's done anything to help my anxiety. It's just the way I've always been.

Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.

Paxil is notorious for weight gain. Gained 50 pounds on it myself. Also known for side effects and difficulty quitting. Try the Prozac. Save the Paxils and Effexors for last.

I was told by my doctor that the Zoloft should not make you gain weight, I had a similar situation with the Paxil. I told my doctor that I was unhappy with the weight gain that I had with Paxil. And she told to try the Zoloft instead. However that was almost four years ago, and I was not on the Zoloft nearly as long as I was with the Paxil. But it did help me to get most of the weight I gained off!! Good luck!

Paxil is not known to cause weight gain. In clinical trials, weight gain by people on Paxil was the same as for placebo, and therefore not deemed an adverse effect.

Hard to imagine any psychiatrist or doctor allowing you to gain 100 pounds without having said something about Paxil being notorious for weight gain. If you choose to go back on it, you might try consulting a book called the Anti-Depressant Survival Guide by Hedaya -- it suggests dietary changes to help with this kind of side effect. ll have a huge problem with weight gain. So far i havnt noticed any weight gain (ive been on it for about two weeks)And i probablly wont be taking it very long,if it has no effect on my condition. But if it works than i'll be extrememly happy lol. I've already noticed a little difference in my weight, so im confident and determined lol. Thanks again =] and i'll keep you updated.
