Paxil tolerance

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil tolerance

paxil

1402011 tn?1291411782 5 mg from about 13 to 21, I switched to Paxil, and then because of weight gain stopped everything. I found myself back on Klonopin on and off. I am now on K at .25 milligram spaced twice at day at .125 dosage. Here is my question.
1035021 tn?1296820707 It's most likely that your body has built up a tolerance to the Paxil, this happens often and usually an increase in dosage or a change of medication is needed. This is common so don't be overly concerned. Call your doctor and let him know what you are experiencing, I'm sure he can help.
1023433 tn?1252068944 I was prescribed paxil 10mg for my anxiety which I've struggled with for years. I've only taken it for two days and I do not like the side effects I guess you could call them. I'm sweating really bad shaky, no appetite and trouble sleeping. I took paxil 20 mg for 3 yrs 7 yrs ago and had no problem with it.
Avatar f tn I feel the xanax .25 4 times daily is starting to have tolerance symptoms of original attacks. Headaches, hands feel like pins and needles when work up this morning, etc. What is the best way to wean off this dose? Should I switch to klonopin, try lowering my xanax by .125, or try valium road? When I asked reg dr. last week about tolerance he said "Ya, your gonna get tolerance to it but said the only alternative was an ssri like paxil.
1035021 tn?1296820707 2 days ago I wanted to try with a higher dose cause I think my body has developed tolerance to the substance, but the strange thing is that I took double, or even triple the dose and felt the same, or at least this is what it look to me. How could this be possible, I was thinking that maybe is like when your drunk, that once your drunk you don't feel the rest of the alcohol effects cause you're already numb. Any opinions???
Avatar f tn I've been taking 20mgs of paxil and my psycholigist wanted me to stop after taking it for month. I've been taking 25 mcgs fentanyl for a month now i'm trying to go cold turkey, but i've been on paxil before and had no problem with withdraws maybe cuz it was only ten mgs. The symptons never afected me this way . It could be the fentanyl as well but i was'nt as bad before I started these.
Avatar f tn it happenedto me was on Paxil for 10 years it stopped working I wound up in hospitaL AFTER weaning me off paxil started w wellbutrine and lamictal and Deserol for sleep plus its also an anti depreseant be certain NOT to take self off antidepressant it is very dangerous...and remember everyones body chemistry is different you may get lucky and find right new med soon or it may take several trys all I know for sure is there is something that will work for you.
Avatar f tn Did you taper slowly off Paxil before switching to Celexa of just stop the Paxil and start the Celexa? Because if you did, you're describing Paxil withdrawal, not necessarily Celexa side effects. Not saying the Celexa would have worked, just asking because it's important to know which is which in case you have to make this choice again sometime.
324184 tn?1308076203 Hello all! I have been on zoloft for over a year and it seems as though my body has become immune to it and it's no longer working for me. My dr has switched me to Paxil and I know from experience (but did it anyways b/c I couldn't resist) that you shouldn't necessarily pay attention to the horror stories that you find online... b/c everyone is different, but I would like some feedback.
Avatar f tn hi all. I've been on anxiety/depression meds for two years now. lately it seems my depression is getting worse. I lost my only child, a son, nearly two years ago. if my problems had started then, I could understand, but started before that and only got worse. I've had the Paxil dosage increased once already and wondering if I should get it increased again, or try something different. any thoughts?
1402011 tn?1291411782 I went on Paxil because K stopped working, I had the most vicious anxiety attack of my life at 21 After a night of drinking. I was not informed about drinking on K at the time and anxiety from Alcohol, I was new to drinking. I went to the DR and he put me on Paxil. The first days were rough but then I remember I felt great, better than great like superman great. I would have a panic attack try and sneak up on me and it was like a guard would stop it from progressing.
Avatar n tn My mother who is 79 years old, has severe arthritis and has dealt with anxiety for many years has been prescribed for sometime by her doctor to take 20 mg Paroxetine and 2 mg Alprazolam in the morning, 1 mg Alprazolam at lunch and 2 mg Alprazolam before bedtime. Paroxetine is the generic for Paxil and Alprazolam is the generic for Xanax. Is it normal to be taking Paxil and Xanax at the same time?
Avatar f tn I have been taking 10 mg of Paxil for ten days, and I still am experiencing insomnia as a side effect. I'm taking Xanax to help my sleep, but I can't do this indefinitely. How long should I put up with this insomnia before deciding Paxil is the wrong medication for me? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I have been through it trying to figure out if this is even possible. My boyfriend has been taking paxil for over a year, and his last dose he was taking was 40 mg a day. We have moved and couldn't get to the doctor he was seeing. Since then he's been to see one doctor that he informed them he was 'not right' and it seemed the tolerance to the paxil had built up and felt that the mg should be increased... other than that paxil was working like a dream.
Avatar f tn would like to come off of it my prescribed paxil 20mg but i am afraid to take it because i have had rapid heart beat before i took it one day i would like to know if this is normal or seretonin syndrome and what i should do.
Avatar f tn Well, so much for my little plan of using only Clonazepam to get off Paxil. I did well with it for about 3 weeks, while tapering off Paxil. My anxiety was much better, but then I started to feel depressed....deeply. So I have started on the Lexapro (2.5) and will go up on that while coming down off Paxil. I will still take the .25 Clonazepam until I am done with my transition and hopefully get off Clonaz. when I am all settled. Anyone else have this side effect with clonazepam / klonopin?
Avatar n tn I was on it for 7 months and did not have the results that I thought I should have had. Now we are weaning off....terrible....and I am going to try Paxil again, which seemed to work before. I also take Xanix in between and to sleep. It is terrible to be this way. There are all kinds of meds out there and we just have to have faith that our doctors know which is best for us. Hang in there. You are young...I am 60 but I still don't want to be this way.
Avatar f tn Try not to let negative thoughts overtake you! You have been on Paxil and it has helped you. If you need to switch meds YOU WILL NOT DIE even if you feel bad! Do not fear the possibility of having to get off Paxil. I switched from Paxil to Celexa, gradually cutting back on Paxil while upping Celexa. Didn't have any real problem but 1 month and 1/2 later felt suicidal and weird on the Celexa, so back on the Paxil I went.
Avatar n tn I believe any doctor will tell you if you have depression, OTC uppers are not the solution. I used to take ephedrine and got addicted, also to caffeine at a different point in my life. These are addictive substances (besides the aspirin) and you can build a tolerance for ephedrine. Paxil didn't work for me either, but there are hundreds of other antidepressants out there to try, in different families of drugs than Paxil.
Avatar f tn see doctors and they tell me my heart is fine that its anxiety. ive been on paxil since i was about 15 yrs old. thought i was doing good but guess not anymore. does a anxiety med stop working after a period of years? im also taking xanax .25 every other few days. i try my hardest not to take it, but when im at work with these feelings i have no choice.
1432824 tn?1283383088 But you have been on your Paxil and Risperdal for a long time and often we build up a tolerance to these types of meds and need to switch to different ones. So I would contact your prescribing doctor and talk to him about this. We normally don't get many years out of these types of meds and they may be pooping out on you. Plus, I'm sure your anxiety is high with all you've been thru. What reason have they given you for this bleeding?
Avatar n tn t have POTS before...and paxil worked....but now i do have POTS and i wonder if paxil will work the same way after all those years....but i do notice that my BP is very low since being on it... just wondering does anyone experience skip, beat, skip, beat with their heart....i find that is worse when my POTS acts up...
2102085 tn?1350866645 What about maybe asking your doc to forego the SSRIs all together and making the Klonopin a regular, daily dose? You may need a slightly higher dose, since you're already on it. Of course, Klonopin long term can lead to physical dependency and would require a slow, deliberate taper to come off. There are also some issues with tolerance, where you would need an occasional dosage increase to maintain the same level of effectiveness.
Avatar m tn m finally healed BUT now I still use one 5mg of hydrocodone a day. I have low depression, take Paxil, but have found that one pill, sometimes just half, give me incentive, otherwise I sleep and am sluggish. Had a active lifestyle, working, riding horses, and just before these accidents retired. I guess my question is does anyone have thoughts/ideas if taking one pill a day is harmful? I mean, I know, it's addictive behavior, but it just elevates me enough to get things done.
Avatar m tn If the Paxil is no longer doing the job, you need to let your prescribing doctor know this. Our bodies build up a tolerance to these types of meds and normally we need a dosage change or a completely different medication. I think they all carry the sexual side affect, but I'm not 100% sure of this, but I am sure that someone who is more knowledgeable on this will jump on and better advise you. Take care....
Avatar m tn I have anxiety for no reason at all which baffles me and keeps my mind going nuts most of the time. For the better part of 10 years my issue was controlled through paxil or paxil cr and a little bit of Clonazepam. Over the past year, my anxiety has gotten much worse and paxil doesn't seem to work anymore like it did. Over the past 5 months I have come off of paxil, switched to Lexapro, switched back to Paxil CR upping my dose (50mg) to see if that would work.
Avatar f tn Hello all. I have been on Paxil 40 mg/day for about 12 years now. I can't believe it's been that long, but how time flies. I am a 36 year-old male now, so I was about 24 years old when I took my first pill. At the time, I was diagnosed with pretty severe GAD and Panic Disorder. Sometimes, I wish I had never started the medication - but I know that it has helped me to live a more full and productive life.
