I was recently on paxil for anxiety until I realized all of the side effects that I was getting including gaining weight. I talked to my doctor and he said I could wean myself off. I was taking 20 mg. He said 10 mg for 2 weeks and then 5mg for 2 weeks, after start wellbutrin. However, I didn't make it that far. Just by one week of going Down to 10 mg I was vomiting, running to the bathroom. Nervousness, dizzy, brain zap and a fuzzy feeling in my head, sweating, VERY emotional.
However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
Sometimes SSRI ( like Paxil) cause these precise side effects at the beginning of treatment. When will you feel better? Check the half life of Paxil. Just for example, the half life of lexapro is 32 hours and it took me 3 days to go back to normal after a single dose.

I was on 20mg paxil for anxiety about two years until the sexual side effects and weight gain really interfered with my life. My doctor said he would wean me off and then I can try wellbutrin. As I was weaning myself off 10 mg which I was supposed to do for 2 weeks I couldn't deal with the side effects. Nausea, diarrhea, brain zaps, dizziness, depression, mood swings, emotional, etc. I have already list 10 lbs which that is the only good thing.
I took the paxil for about 7 days, and couldn't stand the side effects. I had diarrhea, stomach pains and excessive urination and I couldn't stand to eat anything. These physical irritations have stopped since I stopped the paxil. I am super-sensitive to most medications, and Paxil was all I was taking at the time. My doctor and counselor think because of my sensitivity it could work that way. I don't know what to do.
My daughter is currently taking a combination of depakote, lamictal, and abilify for a mood disorder. However, her doctor feels the overwhelming problem with her is an anxiety disorder that is not being addressed by the current meds.
The doctor wants to ween her off the lamictal completely and start her on klonopin wafers. I am concerned about the "drowsiness" side effects. Do these eventually go away?
Paxil should be done on at least a six week taper. It's a tough one to withdraw from. The problem with shifting directly from one to another is you can't tell whether what you're suffering is withdrawal from the last drug or side effects from the new one, so it's impossible for your psychiatrist to help you adapt. Now, because Paxil is so hard to withdraw from for some people, what some psychiatrists do is put you on a little liquid prozac to ease the withdrawal.

I also take Paxil for a sleep disorder (depression-related insomnia) and have for 11+ years. It works wonderously, but I gained 30+ lbs when I started the medication and have tried for years to lose it, unsuccessfully. I will lose some weight - and believe me, it takes an enormous amount of exercise and effort - but inevitably gain it back because Paxil makes my appetite so strong.
Thank you for responding, I have been on Paxil for 7yrs and have had sexual side effects and also weight gain. I asked if I could be put on something else that doesn't have these effects. So the doctor told me to stop the paxil and replace it with the Wellbutrin. I have been on the drug for 5 days at 150 mg and have had side effects. It feel like my body is having jolts or zaps. I feel dizzy and can't move to fast because of it, I am nervous about driving as well.
Since I took the first 10mg pill yesterday, I started experiencing insomnia, tremors, headaches, fever and cold sweats, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, and increased anxiety. I understand that these are fairly common side effects, but I'm just not sure that they are commonly this bad with others. I know I hate the withdrawl symptoms. Have you tried talking to your dr. about another med that has less 'decreased sexual' side effects? and start that med it will then decrease the withdrawl from paxil. How are feeling - depressed, anxious, nauseous, etc.? I'll try finding out how long paxil stays in your system. Hang in there, your brain will start making serintonin to replace the paxil. keep talking to us. it helps.
hi, all anti-depressants can cause suicidal thoughts, my doc warned me before i took them if i ever felt like this go straight to a and e, they will make you feel worse at first and this may last up to six weeks, it takes this long to get in your system, theres a new anti out called citalopram it has less side effects and doesnt take as long to get in your system, i remember taking one anti d and i felt these weird burning sharp pains in the back of my head i went the doctors and he laughed and
Mostly I'd like to say hello to all on this forum. I'm already a member of the Anxiety and Depression forums. After two months, almost, of tests and seeing various doctors and specialist, I've been diagnosed with Osteo Arthritis in the lower back and right hip. For this I've been prescribed Meloxicam/Mobic for the pain and inflamation. The data sheet that came with the prescription details some pretty nasty potential side effects.
