I was recently on paxil for anxiety until I realized all of the side effects that I was getting including gaining weight. I talked to my doctor and he said I could wean myself off. I was taking 20 mg. He said 10 mg for 2 weeks and then 5mg for 2 weeks, after start wellbutrin. However, I didn't make it that far. Just by one week of going Down to 10 mg I was vomiting, running to the bathroom. Nervousness, dizzy, brain zap and a fuzzy feeling in my head, sweating, VERY emotional.
However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
I also take Paxil for a sleep disorder (depression-related insomnia) and have for 11+ years. It works wonderously, but I gained 30+ lbs when I started the medication and have tried for years to lose it, unsuccessfully. I will lose some weight - and believe me, it takes an enormous amount of exercise and effort - but inevitably gain it back because Paxil makes my appetite so strong.
My daughter is currently taking a combination of depakote, lamictal, and abilify for a mood disorder. However, her doctor feels the overwhelming problem with her is an anxiety disorder that is not being addressed by the current meds.
The doctor wants to ween her off the lamictal completely and start her on klonopin wafers. I am concerned about the "drowsiness" side effects. Do these eventually go away?
If your concern is only the weight change factor just keep an eye on your weight and if you start to notice you that your gaining or losing call your doctor. The weight is one of the less serious side effects. But do your research on the Paxil and the dosage. Or nothing may happen at all the side effects vary from person to person. You may not have any side effects.
My own advice would be to wean off Paxil before trying another antidepressant so you can tell which effects are withdrawal from Paxil and which are side effects of the new med. It's hard to do when you're essentially on two meds at once; even though Paxil leaves the body quickly, the brain takes a while to adapt to the cessation of these meds. But this is just my opinion.
ive been take paxil 6months 4months ago start have serious bad side effects but csnt get in to my dr until friday he told me to stop take them so i dindt take one lastnight ive been so bad dizzy not feel good so tonight ill break my 20mg in half but question if he replaces my paxil with anther depression pill i shouldnt have side effects from paxil or would i & is there any safe less side effects depression/anxiety med ive try 9so far side effects too yall:thanks::
Talk to your doctor about possible side effects and whether there is something else that might be better for you. Since you didn't state whether your concern was side effects or efficacy it is hard to answer you. However, if you are reading reviews online then you are only getting what people prefer or don't like. It is not scientific information about the drug and its effects. The only way you will know if it is the right drug for you is to try it.
people with anxiety have a tendency of psyching themselves up about things, especially medication and potential side effects. You might be suffering from the placebo effect. I know that just a day after taking celexa for the first time, I started feeling really strange. But the fact is, the medication couldn't possibly have infiltrated my system enough in only 24 hours to induce symptoms or side effects. It was my mind playing tricks on me.
Not doing well on an alternative drug(name??) Paxil sure worked for me without many side effects. I am 67 and my memory scares me ...forgot the names of people I have known for years and worked with on an interim basis..once or twice a year. Could this be caused by the Paxil.. Am I heading to dementia ? Or is it because I am off paxil? I talked with my doctor and he asked if I would consider going back on paxil or trying another drug.
Eventually I got off of it because it just seemed to make me feel more depressed and lethargic (among other things), even though my panic attacks stopped. Plus, I did experience some sexual side effects being on Paxil. That was frustrating. As suggested, I would hold off and continue to research it more if you're able to, especially if you have a decent support group and counseling where you are.
We all react differently to these drugs, and while one may have side effects from one drug, another won't. It's really trial and error as to what will work best for you. Try the Paxil and if it doesn't help, or you have any problematic side effects let your doctor know right away. Never stop these types of meds abruptly and always work closely with your doctor where your meds are concerned.
I do not know if michael has taken Paxil, but i did take it for over 8 years and let me tell you paxil put me through hell and one of the side effects was heart palpittions.There are many side effects from paxil that many people are not aware of. SO do your research. There are so many great web sites out there, one is paxilprogress.
Yup, those are common side effects of Paxil :( I've been told they subside after a few weeks (4-6) but the sexual side effects...well, that will take some time!
What you are describing sound very much like anxiety symptoms, rather than a side effect of the Paxil. Now...in saying that...SSRIs DO have a tendency to increase anxious symptoms initially before they help them. Usually after the first week, any side effects that are causing an exacerbation of the anxiety start to subside.
Still, I think a chit chat with your doc is in order. Whether you stay on the Paxil or change to another SSRI...
In any case Paxil works for me but the only problem is it has sexual side effects. I get aroused and am able to maintain an erection but it can be very hard to reach orgasm. Is there any other drug that can counteract this side effect or perhaps another anitdepressant that doesn't have this side effect? I'd love to hear your input!
It could be that your having headaches this 2nd time around b/c of the Paxil. The first time I was on Paxil I had no side effects but that was at age 24. I'm 29 now and I feel the side effects definately this time around.
