Avatar f tn I know it's not a magic pill, I am eating way less than before and better but just not losing weight. I know some people get an actual list of foods to eat from their doctor but all I was told was to eat my normal food just less of it. I work out 6days a week something I didn't do 2months ago and still not losing weight with exercise either. If anybody knows of something else I could do or try please let me know.
Avatar n tn Some seem to claim that Paxil may not work very well the second time around. Is this true? I came of paxil about 9 days ago substitiuting it for Prozac. I took Paxil for about 8 months and it worked well for anxiety but due to financial reasons wanted to try Prozac. However, I think Paxil is the one for me so I want to start taking it again. Is there any evidence to suggest it won't work for me as well as before?
Avatar f tn If you need to switch meds YOU WILL NOT DIE even if you feel bad! Do not fear the possibility of having to get off Paxil. I switched from Paxil to Celexa, gradually cutting back on Paxil while upping Celexa. Didn't have any real problem but 1 month and 1/2 later felt suicidal and weird on the Celexa, so back on the Paxil I went. I've been on Paxil about 14 years and it still works but I feel so fatigued I was willing to try Celexa.
547002 tn?1219797376 it took a little over a week for it to start working for me. maybe you need your dose increased. this may not be the right med for you but for me it did stop the anxiety and panic attacks and helped my depression. talk to your dr. about increasing your dose. take care.
Avatar f tn It sounds like the Paxil stopped working for you, which happens. You should never stop these types of drugs abruptly due to withdrawal. Did you give the Effexor enough time to help you, 4-6 weeks? Call your doctor and ask what he suggests. I know you would like to not take anything, but for now it sounds like you need medication, and sometimes when one quits working, we may need to try several before finding the one that's going to do the job.
Avatar f tn This is complicated, especially since you haven't said what your drug history is. The first question to me is whether the Paxil was working or not. If it wasn't, then augmenting it with Abilify probably wasn't the best approach -- changing the medication would be. Of course, getting off Paxil is difficult. Generally, you augment a medication when it's working but just not quite well enough, or when nothing you tried worked.
Avatar n tn You probably have some reasons why you want to switch right? I'd talk to your doctor about those reasons. The paxil isn't working for you for whatever reason, sometimes antidepressants stop working for you and you have to switch, it's pretty normal. In my experience, being on prozac is much better than paxil.
Avatar n tn Ok thanks for the advice Paxiled. I have an appointment in a couple days so I will talk with him about it then.
Avatar m tn Whatever you do for medication, please try a form of therapy called CBT. Might work, might not, depends on how hard you're able to work at it. I was on Paxil for several years, it didn't get rid of my old phobias but did prevent me from getting new ones. But there are other meds out there that are easier to stop taking, and once you're on Paxil they may not work for you because Paxil for some reason is a lot stronger on the system.
Avatar f tn I am a 36 year-old make. I have been taking Paxil 40mg/day for 10 years, and had worked miracles. I feel like it has quit working recently, so I started looking around on the web for some advice. It wasn't long before I stumbled upon 100's if not 1000's of post describing the hell of quitting Paxil. I have started obsessing about it, and now it's all I can think about.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your comments. I don't believe the Paxil is working for my depression anymore. Not sure if it's causing my sleep issues. I need to see my doctor and discuss all of this with her.
Avatar m tn I would like information regarding the differences between Paxil and Prozac. I've used Paxil in the past, and the truth is that it is very hard to stop taking it. Right now I'm taking only 10mg (paxil) but I don't feel that is working anymore and have been thinking about switching to Prozac.
Avatar n tn s today and now he took me off paxil and put me on prozac. Said that it is not as addicting and will help me through the paxil withdrawl. ??? He said give it a month and then stop taking prozac and getting off prozac is much easier because it stays in your system longer. I am soo sick of taking pills. I went there for help and I left with more pills. Whatever..
Avatar f tn I've been trying Effexor for about 3 months now and I've decided it's NOT working right for me. I'm up to 225mg. I want to go back to the med combination that I was on before, it was working MUCH better for me, it was 20mg of Paxil plus 150mg of Welbutrin. I'm completely miserable and want to make the switch as quickly as possible. I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is safe/ ok/ reccommended to change without tapering one and slowly increasing the other?
Avatar n tn do not stop paxil!!!! my pcp did the same thing as i had been on it 10yrs and thought it wasnt working. she too had me take celexa. that lasted 8 days, i had the worst panic attacks and thought i was going to die. i went right back to paxil and saw a physciatrist who explained to me u can never cut paxil cold turkey. u have to ween urself off and that requires work, which right now im not strong enough for.
Avatar f tn Since the Paxil has worked so well for you for 10 years and you're not at the max dose, why not discuss upping the dose with your doctor before going through the rigors of changing to something else? It might be all you need..........a bit of a tweak in dosage!
Avatar n tn Hi I think it's different for everyone as I am 25 and on Zoloft 100mg but it's not working for me so I have to try and get it straightened out. I have only been on Zoloft so I don't know what it is like to switch mess but I do know that switching without being weaned off can have some horrible effects. Please keep us informed because i will be switching soon and I want to do it the right way.
Avatar f tn The normal dose for Paxil maintenance is, I think, 20mg. But people do metabolize them differently. My advice is, if you and your doctor decide this drug isn't working, don't stay on it long, but it does take about 4-6 weeks for antidepressants to work. (Side effects, naturally, come immediately).
Avatar n tn I have HEP C & currently take 20mg. of Paxil (for several years) and find that it's no longer working very well /not working at all. It's also not great for the liver. I need to be on an antidepressant - but one that's safer than Paxil, if such a drug exists. Every search I've performed leads to long, convoluted stories. I just need an answer or suggestions. Not SAM-e. Is anyone taking an antidepressant that's easy(ier) on the liver? Any info. would be a great help.
Avatar n tn I've been taking Zoloft twice a day (100 mg) for more than 10 years and it is no longer working. I'm interesting in trying to figure out what to try now. I've heard good things about Lexapro (insurance covers) and Cymbalta (insurance does not cover no generic)... So what should I do... I'm so depressed lately - i can't stand it.. just want to isolate and sleep 24/7. no energy or interest in anything... pls help. thank you.
Avatar n tn As with Mom, I'm a bit confused -- you also don't say if you're tapering slowly off the Lexapro to avoid withdrawals. You don't want to be on both Lexapro and Paxil unless, as some psychiatrists do, you're switching at the very end of the taper and therefore almost off the Lexapro.
