Common Questions and Answers about Paxil news

paxil

Avatar n tn Any doc who tells you to just stop taking Paxil is one to avoid for your mental health care -- the news about the difficulty in stopping these drugs, and especially Paxil, is so old now anyone who doesn't know to slowly taper and monitor should be avoided.
Avatar f tn My husband was on paxil, I saw a news program about how difficult it was to get off that drug and how many wd things happened when you did try to get off. I told him about what I saw and he went to the Dr and he tapered him off while he started another anit dpressant. It can be very dangerous coming off that stuff. More than anyother med in that class. Get off asap, but you must have your dr help you. Hope that helps.
Avatar m tn Long term cognitive problems with paxil? Any recent news or personal experiences regarding long term use..loss of memory, etc.
Avatar m tn Been a while since I posted on here, but having a bad panic attack and its day 12 of paxil I'm taking and the only side affect I have is no feeling in chest. The attack happened out of nowhere and I talked to my doctor yesterday about what's going on with paxil and ativan but still thinks I still need to take them for a few mores weeks but when I do get the attacks i feel that the Ativan is not doing anything, it's like a water pill I'm taking with no affect at all.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Paxil for social anxiety. I get hot very quickly and after any small situation where i am dealing with people, i feel myself going red. Anyhow, i have found they somewhat help my situation, but they have caused me to gain some weight. I have come off the tablets, do you think i will lose the weight? And is there any similar medication i can take that does not cause weight gain?

Avatar f tn Anxiety causes a plethora of physical symptoms, and the good news is, they will start to resolve after you start getting the anxiety under control! Have you ever tried any kind of anxiety treatment? Medications? Therapy?
358304 tn?1409709492 remember these meds take time, but I think you will be ok with Paxil ..either way the good news is, it wont get worse, it will only get better with meds..I always say the worse is over and pop the pill and it keeps me going until they do work ! I hope you have luck on this med like my friend, and even if it doesnt work for you, there are many other med options...
Avatar n tn I'll take a shot at your #2. My wife suffered for many years from anxiety neurosis. She eventually overcame it with a lot of counseling and Paxil, an SSRI drug. She was happy as a clam, and doing great on a maintenance dose of Paxil until a routine mammogram revealed early breast cancer. Two surgeries and radiation, and she in great shape. Then we start Tamoxifen, an anti-cancer drug for breast cancer for the next 5 years.
Avatar m tn I read this study. The only thing I can offer is my personal experience with antidepressants. I was severely depressed after the birth of my child. For a long time I could not even understand what was wrong-why I have this sadness, tears, irrational gloom and anxiety, why I can not sleep even when I am exhausted. I tried many different things before resorting to Paxil-St John's wart, other herbs, exercise, diet, prayer... Nothing helped, and depression deepened. It was hard to function.
954005 tn?1304626605 He seems to understand that, especially with Paxil, the slower the taper, the better. Paxil has a bit of a reputation of being very difficult to come off. If it's done RIGHT, you should be able to minimize the symptoms. That's my advice to you....the slower and more deliberate the taper, the better. Be sure to put in place other coping mechanisms to deal with your anxiety, therapy, CBT, whatever it takes.
Avatar f tn Our pharmacy happily filled each prescription for 2years until one day my wife saw a news article claiming reduced efficacy of the Tamoxifen when taken in conjunction with Paxil. Eve the Oncologist hadn't seen the report! The pharmacist was aware of the report, but had no way of finding customers that might be using the combination of the two drugs. We were very fortunte to have seen this report.
527657 tn?1214051850 I was told by my doctor that the Zoloft should not make you gain weight, I had a similar situation with the Paxil. I told my doctor that I was unhappy with the weight gain that I had with Paxil. And she told to try the Zoloft instead. However that was almost four years ago, and I was not on the Zoloft nearly as long as I was with the Paxil. But it did help me to get most of the weight I gained off!! Good luck!
Avatar m tn Hensley258, Thanks for the well-crafted response! I am certainly going to research this myself. By the way, I am getting treated by a Board Certified Psychiatrist, but he hasn't mentioned this so far. I have a followup with him in a couple of weeks, and if things don't get back to normal, I will broach this subject with him.
573569 tn?1278629655 Hi, its like you said in your last post you have to think what you were like before you took the paxil, did you have the strange shapes and colours before you took the paxil?
898040 tn?1284036509 I was diagnosed with PCOS last April. Put on Paxil this past February. I had a checkup with my family doctor on Monday where I asked him if my sore breasts, pressure in my abdomen, dizzy spells could be a side effect from the Paxil. He looks at me like I am insane and draws blood for a qualitative pregnancy test. I am at work just waiting for my negative result! No! I couldn't have it that easy. I get an "indeterminate". Which means I am somewhere between 5 and 25.
Avatar n tn hi all i have been 9days off zoloft cold turkey i have had dizziness, nausea, and a few other symptoms but i am so proud of myself i feel much happier and able to function alot more even my family have noticed the difference after taking zoloft for 20 odd years i am looking forward to a drug free life...
1219946 tn?1266758528 I have been on paxil for about 9 yrs. Last dosage was 40mg. /day. I also had xanax .5 mg. for emergencys. I changed doctors due to new inurance and the feeling that whenever I went to my Psychiatrist He'd ask how I was /never listened and just wrote Rx's. I mentioned to my new Dr. that I gained about 30 lbs during the treatment and she told me it was a big weight gainer. So she weened me off paxil and now I'm on Wellbutrin 200 mg./day.
Avatar f tn this is almost ruining my marriage and i have no emotion, im depressed even more and i have 2 young kids, they need me, and i just want to feel like myself again thats why im trying to get off. id rather deal with panic/anxiety, than have all the others sypmptoms that paxil gives me as well. Please help, someone, anyone........What can i do here. It's not fair, am i right?
Avatar f tn I could be wrong. Does anyone else take Paroxetine (Generic for Paxil) and does it help you with the MS pains? I took Paroxetine before and switched. I think had I been on a higher dose I would have done better on it. Instead, my PCP switched me to Welbutrin (I call it Hellbutrin because it made me CRAZY!!!!!) Any of your opinions will be much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!
Avatar f tn what is the proper way to taper back to paxil? 3. How unsafe is paxil with pregnancy and what other options do I have? HELP! I feel like I am losing my mind!!!!
Avatar m tn hi there I have been taking zoloft, but as u see, seems it is not work very well, my doc has changed Paxil for me and hope it works. Definitely I think the possibilities of happening of above is ridiculous, but as you mentioned, what-if thoughts is recurring and around me, so I am hanging in there again, and before that, I was in a nightmare during my trip to Japan, e.g.
Avatar f tn could be the cause of the sinus tachycardia so he recently switched me from Paxil to Lexapro. So the Paxil is now out of my system but I am still feeling the rapid heart beat. I know it's not dangerous since that is what the cardiologists have told me but I'm experiencing extreme anticipatory anxiety as to when my heart will speed up again and that something is going to happen to me, such as fainting or dying.
Avatar n tn Can I quit the paxil and take the klonopin 3 x a day as prescribed and safely get off Paxil. I am getting fat!
611559 tn?1233776445 I have taken Effexor XR for about 5 years, which followed a course of Paxil. The Paxil was preceded by a course of Zoloft. The anti-depressants were given to me because I have a physical disability with chronic pain, and anxiety that began at the same time as the pain. Anxiety was the worst, but as my life tanked from inability to do many things, the depression grew. Zoloft did not help much; I gained 60 lbs. on Paxil. When switching from Paxil to Effexor, I lost about 20 of the 60lbs.
