Paxil liver

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil liver

paxil

Avatar n tn Robbie, the majority of us who are on anti-depressants are on SSRI's which is the same class as Paxil. They are the safest for liver patients apparently. If paxil is no longer working for you I'm sure your doc can find one that will. When celexa stopped working for me I tried Effexor and I really love it. I've had not one problem with it.

Avatar f tn t have him so incredibly addicted. I also have heard that paxil is bad on your liver and possible birth defects! The trouble with even thinking of doing this is... he is a sales manager in an already stressful environment. He does not want to try to do this when it would negatively impact his work. Is there a way to take something to supplement the paxil, while at the same time weaning off the dosage of the paxil?
1432927 tn?1283546704 I always thought Paxil / Zoloft were tough to get on for anxious types. They tend to increase anxiety when first started. Don't be afraid to ramp up slowly. Talk to your doc about it too. There are many choices for anxiety and it takes trial and error to get the right combo. I suggest Nefazodone (Serzone) in a light dose at first, ramp to 150mg BID, Serzone doesn't have any any of the side effects of Paxil.
Avatar f tn Ok i'm at a loss for what to do. My liver test came with AST/ALT 382 and 371. What is wrong with me. They tested for hep, but that was negitive. I had two liver scans that show a fatty liver. I'm about 35 pounds over weight, trying to get this off with wokring out. I did go through chemo and radiation 4.5 years ago, could that have caused some damage to the liver? Only meds i'm on is paxil 40 mgs per day and levoxyl for my thyroid 150mgs.
345079 tn?1299202476 But for some reason I keep thinking its pointless as I am taking so many different medication and some for a long time and I worry that I am doing damage to my liver etc anyway. I mean 14 years on Paxil cant really be good for someone, add in Trazadone, Inderal, and Klonopin and it worries me that I am doing my body harm :( I am also suppose to take long acting morphine as well as statex when needed but I refuse to unless I cant handle the pain.
Avatar n tn i have been on paxil medication for about 4 months now, and i notice when i drink heavily. i tend to not remember anything that happened the noght of my drinking. i have been told by my family that my behavior is bizzare and erratic. i do not have any memory of my behavior while drinking. could mixing the paxil and alchocol be the reason?
Avatar m tn I am 3 weeks back on Paxil after a failed attempt to switch medications to Lexapro. I have read a lot that Paxil loses its effectiveness after the first time. I (stupidly) have started, stopped & restarted Paxil on several different occasions and it always has seemed to work. I was on paxil 20mg originally then stopped cold turkey and went back on at Paxil CR 12.5. Upped dose over time to Paxil CR 25mg.
Avatar n tn I had been on Effexor XR 75 mg for 6 years and Paxil 20 mg for 4 years. My liver enzymes (ALT 120) were elevated and both psychiatrist and primary doctor agreed to discontinue these drugs. I was tapered off each drug one at a time over a 6 week period plus my Straterra 60mg for ADHD. It has now been 3 weeks since no further meds. I experienced severe withdrawals including: vomiting (first 3 days), nausea (for abt.
Avatar m tn I also wake up sweating sometimes and i have had frequent urination.I take 20mg of paxil a day and 20mg of prilosec a day.I have been tested for all STD's, my lungs because i smoke,my liver,my pancreas,my thyroid, and had a endoscopy, but everything is normal.Do you think this could be all in my head or something more serious. Please advise.
Avatar m tn re on a high dose of Paxil. Now, some psychiatrists will switch you to Prozac to help with Paxil withdrawal, because it stays in the body longer. Don't know if it helps or not.
Avatar n tn This is typical -- psychiatrists in general, and I've seen a lot over many years of this crap, are pretty lazy. I learned about it because the manufacturer of Cymbalta is seeking FDA approval for using the med for pain and the liver deaths have come out. This isn't unheard of -- tricyclics have for years been difficult for some and you have to get your liver tested regularly when you're on them, but they don't for Cymbalta.
Avatar m tn I am currently trying to get off Paxil. I know how to ween myself off it but it ,as many people know, has terrible withdraw side effects. One of the side effects I am having is my anxiety attacks are coming back the same as they were before all of the medication. I am perscribed to xanex. If I take xanex ocationally in this period of Paxil withdraw will that harm me?? Are the anxiety attacks just a side effect that will go away after the withdraws are gone??

Avatar m tn The one I was on, as a side effect, blocks a critical liver enzyme, so it interacts with just about every medication out there, doubling its half life. I wasn't on any other meds so it was doable. These meds all have different trade offs and results, so you have to experiment until you get the right one. So I would get a list of compatible SSRIs and SNRIs and start trying them. SSRIs can take up to 6 weeks to see a result.
Avatar n tn My daughter is tapering off an AD (not paxil) so I've been reading alot the last few months. Paxil is known to be one of the hardest ssri's to get off of. I don't know but your wife may want to think about going back on, stabilizing and then doing a slow taper. Google paxil progress and see if they can offer you some guidance in addition to any help you get here.
Avatar f tn Complained of super tired, and my Alt was 280 and Ast 206. No tender liver area, no jaundice, no dark urine, but Vit D 13 rather than around 30, and fasting glucose 122....CBC normal, See doc in 4 days, but any hint or simply ideas of what is happining!!??
Avatar f tn I was on Paxil for several years, and what I can tell you is coming off of it is very hard, as you've discovered. None of these meds was ever researched for long-term use, but for me, it worked for my phobias better the longer I was on it, but the side effects got worse, too. My own opinion is there is a possibility of long-term damage with any medication, and particularly those that affect brain function.
Avatar f tn Question: You say you weaned off Paxil, but how long did you take to taper off it? You say you realized after two weeks you still needed a med, but what was going on for those two weeks? Was it something different then you had felt before going on Paxil in the first place? Paxil is the hardest of these meds to stop taking and for some people it can be devastating.
Avatar f tn You've been on the Paxil quite a long time and you need to understand that it's going to take you awhile to wean off safely and as comfortably as possible. I am certainly no expert in withdrawing from these types of meds, but I think the way you attempted it before was far too drastic. To skip an entire day will throw your mind and body into chaos, that's putting yourself through "cold turkey" every other day.
Avatar m tn I was on Paxil for 14 years, and had enough of it's problems...sweating way too much anytime of the year, nastiness, unrelated anger to situations, rages, poor decision making, It made me a monster. When I stopped no one told me DO NOT STOP COLD TURKEY......I did in April 08 and in Sept. I went into the most hellish experience I ever had. Head pressure, lights flashing in my eyes, burning in hands and feet, tingling all over my body, OCD way off the wall, and fear I have never known before.
Avatar m tn Just today I took a first pill of Paxil (10mgs). I was just wondering what I could expect. Right now I feel terrible like I need to vomit. I am feeling extra anxious right now too. Just keep thinking something is wrong or I am having some sort of serious side effects. Is it normal to have these side effects right away? It is around noon right now and I took the first pill at 915 this morning.
