Paxil lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil lexapro

paxil

Avatar f tn Well, my psychiatrist is doing 10 mg of Lexapro for three days, then 5mg Lexapro/5mg Paxil for three days and then back to 10 mg Paxil. I pray to God that I will start feeling better once I'm back on the Paxil. I've been having constant every second panicky thoughts that I'm going to die or that I'm going to faint. Of course this doesn't happen but the fear is real and dreadful. The problem i've been having with the palpitations makes it worse.
Avatar m tn Then Christmas comes I get the flu and boom goes my anxiety so with the New Years thought it might be best to try this switch since everytime I was getting sick I was having to increase paxil dosage. So my schedule to get off paxil and onto lexapro is as follows. I am also taking a 1/2 pill of .5mg Ativan nightly to help me sleep. Week 1 Paxil 30mg. Week 2 Paxil 20mg. Lexapro 5mg. Week 3 Paxil 10mg. Lexapro 10mg. Week 4 Lexapro 10mg.
Avatar f tn I asked my psychiatrist for Lexapro but she said I needed something stronger. A friend of mine just started on Lexapro and I am pissed that I was given Paxil; which is one of the older ones. My therapist told me that the older ones caused the weight gain and the newer ones are much better. I am going to ask for Lexapro and if she doesn't prescribe it I will get it from my PCP. Oh, I am having trouble sleeping too due to this drug.
2102085 tn?1350866645 She put me on a plan where i decrease my Lexapro and slowly add Paxil. I am currently on only 5mg of Lexapro. My nausea has decreased but still miserable and now it is mixed with Lexapro withdrawl symptoms, which as you may know, is a nightmare. I am seriously considering not starting the Paxil and just getting off SSRIs all together. At least for a while if not for good. I just cannot handle this medication roller coaster! Any thoughts or experiences? Please advise! What should I do?
Avatar m tn I am 3 weeks back on Paxil after a failed attempt to switch medications to Lexapro. I have read a lot that Paxil loses its effectiveness after the first time. I (stupidly) have started, stopped & restarted Paxil on several different occasions and it always has seemed to work. I was on paxil 20mg originally then stopped cold turkey and went back on at Paxil CR 12.5. Upped dose over time to Paxil CR 25mg.
Avatar n tn I have been on Propranolol for quiet some time now. I was prescribed it for a heart condition. I never new until now that it was also used for anxiety also. I still take the Propranolol twice a day as directed for my heart. I was currently on Lexapro twice a day for anxiety. The Lexapro wasn't working so they switched me to Paxil once a day. They also added Klonipon twice a day as needed.
Avatar m tn Lexapro first. Paxil is a more aggressive SSRI than Lexapro. It's hard to come off Paxil so I would start with Lexapro.
Avatar n tn Recently I had surgery and this doctor changed the lexapro to a paxil and buspar. At first I felt fine but now three weeks of the new meds and I am tired all of the time and very down. I have a medical condition that I have to take several meds for ex: fentora, oxyliquid, fentanel patch. perscribed through a pain management doctor. There is not much follow up with the new medicine and I wonder if all of this is good.
Avatar f tn I was on Paxil for 15 plus years..when hospitalised for psyc reasons..Dr weaned me off it in 3 days by having paxil dose cut in half and giving me Wellbutrin...NEVER stop any psyc med wo drs help// anyways it may be your bodys too accustomed to the Paxil..ask your dr if he thinks another anti depressant may be better abd if he could switch while weaning you off other. just a thought!
Avatar m tn I have run out of paxil after taking 40 mg for 7 months. My friend gave me 30 lexapro 10 mg. is this going to help me come off of paxil? will I stay the same since lexapro is an ssri and essentially the same drug class? I need to know this or I will have to go to an emergency to get more paxil.
Avatar f tn Hi, I don't know the answer to your question but I understand because I just went from Paxil to Lexapro and am feeling miserable. I think it's due to Paxil withdrawel and the Lexapro doesn't seem to be working for me. Have you ever gone from one antidepressant to another?
Avatar n tn First of all, is he in therapy? The meds won't cure him, they just treat symptoms. Second, you say he is suffering depression. Does he also suffer anxiety? I ask because some pure antidepressants are stimulating and can cause anxiety. And did he wean off Lexapro, or quit cold turkey and to immediately to Paxil? He could be suffering Lexapro withdrawal if he did, and Paxil won't necessarily do anything about that.
Avatar m tn A month ago I was switched over from Paxil CR 25mg to Lexapro 10mg and felt better after 2 weeks. At that point I tried to wean down my Klonopin from 1mg to .5mg and up my Lexapro from 10mg to 15mg (doctors recommendations) after a week of doing that I felt terrible and went back up to Klonopin 1mg deciding to ween later. Well now I am a month into the start of Lexapro and even though my anxiety is better, its not great.
Avatar f tn Hi Lori, I just wanted to say I am on this journey with you. I've been on Lexapro for five years (with the ocassional break). I have acute chronic anxiety and panic attacks. I've been weaning off 20 mg of Lexapro. I too am beginning to experience some of the symptoms that reveal my anxiety disorder. I cannot do SSRI's anymore - I've been on Paxil and Lexapro, both left me with weight gain (which dropped off quickly), and a complete loss of creativity.
Avatar m tn I am starting week #5 of paxil cr (week 1 = paxil cr 12.5, week 2 = paxil cr 25, week 3- current = paxil 37.5) Everywhere I read its just "keep waiting it out. It will get better." My doc wants me to raise to paxil cr 50mg on Monday if I don't start feeling any better. That is double the old dose I was at that worked for so long! It just scares me to keep going up. I recently tried Lexapro and it was a disaster. I just need some positive feedback.
Avatar f tn I'm not Alidora, but I took Paxil for years before it gave me insomnia. So there you go. These drugs can change over time, they're weird, nobody can tell you how you're going to feel. I would recommend you try Lexapro rather than Paxil; Paxil can be a very difficult drug to take and stop taking. Lexapro can, too, but few are as problematic as Paxil. Given you won't know how either will affect you, I'd go with the Lexapro first, and Paxil as a last resort only.
Avatar m tn I was also on Paxil a long time but I never changed dosages, but my experience with Lexapro mimics yours. It really did a number on me when they went up to 30mg. So just give it some time, and if it doesn't work out, it just isn't your med.
Avatar m tn All these meds are quite different from one another, so nobody can predict what will happen. You will probably have more side effects from Paxil, or at least that's Lexapro's claim to fame. I certainly had fewer on Lexapro than Paxil. But since you're on a sub-therapeutic dose of each you shouldn't notice anything one way or the other.
Avatar m tn 20 years off and on paxil but decided not to get off anymore because i get very ill dr saying its relapsing illness and basically its depression even though im not sad its same thing paxil stopped working few months ago and i asked the dr to switch lexapro since i didnt try to switch to anything for 10 years, i tried cymbalta before with different dr and it did nothing for me i was hoping that with lexapro will have less side effects also, i gained little weight on paxil and its impossible to ge
Avatar m tn Since the Lexapro didn't work for you, it could be like starting over, and you need to give the Paxil more time to build up in your system (4-6 weeks). It could be your body adjusting to the switch. I think it's both, along with all the switching around of medications. Within a few weeks you should start to feel better. If you are ever really concerned about anything with your medication, call your doctor.
358304 tn?1409709492 t cover Lexapro, why not try Celexa, the generic earlier form of Lexapro? No picnic, but again, Paxil is very strong, it can work well, but can be a very difficult med, so I'd think this one through carefully. Just my opinion, not necessarily anything that will definitely happen. Good luck whatever you do.
358304 tn?1409709492 So after going to the Dr. today, he switched me from 5mg Lexapro to Paxil. He gave me 20mg pills, but said to cut them in half at first for the first month. My symptoms have been, IBS symptoms, nervousness, nausea, and tight throat... to where I wanna gag and feels like I cant breath correctly... restlessness at night, and big loss of appetite. Will Paxil help you think? I don't really care to hear about any horror stories. haha. I just wanna hear some good experiences.
Avatar f tn I would quit the Paxil completely before starting again on the Lexapro. That way you can distinguish withdrawal symptoms from side effects of starting Lexapro -- sometimes going back on a drug is different than the first time you took it. Since you've only been on Paxil such a short time, this shouldn't be a big problem, just a safety precaution. I got your PM, and this is what I would have said there.
Avatar f tn Look, folks, you can't just switch from Paxil to Prozac. That's what Nursegirl was trying to say. Paxil is one of the most difficult meds to stop taking, and yes, it does come with significant weight gain for many people. It can also make one very tired, just as it can make one very stimulated -- there's no way to tell beforehand how one will react. Personally, I'd stay away from Paxil and Effexor just as Nursegirl said unless they were the last thing left to try.
Avatar m tn 5 mg paxil for a week and added 5 mg lexparo, I felt like myself again. after a week i stop taking the paxil and i was just taking 5 mg lexapro . I was not feeling right after 5 days, so doctor increased lexapro to 10 mg. for 4 days i have terrible panic attacts and felt that i was dying.
