Paxil heart problems

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil heart problems

paxil

Avatar m tn You might get more help if you make a new post, as this one is a couple years old, but that's not that old. I have some questions for you, as you can tell by my name that Paxil is why I'm on this forum. How long did you take to taper off of it? You were on it a very very long time, and given this is the most difficult antidepressant to stop taking, I hope you took as long as you needed. If you tapered off too quickly, that could explain the lingering problems.
Avatar f tn And does Paxil interact with Diazepam and does paxil interact with carbamazepine? Does carbamazepine interact with diazepam and vice versa? Please help! Write me back! I am a single mom of two small children who is scared that something will happen to me.
Avatar n tn from then onwards i always keep thinking that i am about to have a heart problem/heart attack/ stroke.. i used to take paxil for 6 motnhs but never worked, and now i take half a milligram of ativan when it gets bad. but even when its 'not bad', its still kind of bad, considering other people live without these worrying. What also worries me is that by worrying, i am harming my heart.. i feel like im going crazy at times. can anyone relate please?
Avatar n tn No problems at all. Now i am feeling slight chest discomfort and at times abnormal heart beats. I really dont feel stressed about anything at all and i dont want to go back to taking paxil. I have had all of the tests done (EKG, stress test, etc) to rule out any heart problems. I still feel like they might have missed something, but i dont feel really stressed about it. Is there any other alternatives to Paxil that wont make me gain weight?
Avatar m tn I am switching from Paxil to Cymbalta, and am down from 30 mg of Paxil to 5 mg, and then up to 60 mg of Cymbalta. I feel like I am having a racing heart/palpitations. I am not sure if it's anxiety, Paxil withdrawal, side effects from Cymbalta, or there is something wrong with my heart. Has anyone switched from Paxil to Cymbalta (weaning off/increasing at same time.) If so, did you have any issues? Thank you so much!
Avatar n tn At first I started taking it because I had anxiety problems while eating. As soon as I started paxil these problems went away for the most part in a few weeks. A couple years later I started having panic attacks. I recently began seeing a psychiatrist who increased my dosage gradually from 20mg to 60mg. I really haven't noticed any difference though at all when going from 20mg to 60mg of paxil. He also prescribed 1mg of Ativan, which I only take when needed (about twice a week).
Avatar n tn Usually the liquid form is used toward the end of your taper, but who knows? My question is if you're doing this with a psychiatrist who understands these meds -- and most don't, you have to grill them ahead of time -- who can monitor your taper?
Avatar f tn Wow, interesting information....I had never even heard of "seratonin syndrome". I may have had that once when I was on Zoloft. Not sure though. Anyhow, I've been on SSRI's for a long time also. I was on Zoloft for about 5+ years and then Celexa for 7+ years (I'm still on CELEXA, btw).
Avatar f tn ok so the past few weeks ive been having extreme anxiety, tingling in fingers, arm pain, back and chest pain on and off (pressure, sharp pains, anything you can think of i've felt it), panic attacks. saw a cardiologist on tuesday, said i had a normal echo. last year and nothing would drastically change within a year, and normal ekgs and holter monitor recently. he also prescribed me propranolol , which i'm terrified to take because it drops BP and your heart rate.
Avatar n tn I have never had previous heart problems until these palpitations started. It all happened when I moved from san diego back to washington state were my family lives. I went to the emergency room twice in one week when I got to washington because of a rapid heart rate. (125 bpm). They dygnosed me with dehydration both times and I went home. They continued to happen and I went to my local doctor.
Avatar n tn I was doing fine the last time at the 2 1/2 month mark when I developed episodes of very slow heart rate to the point of almost passing out while sitting like the first time. I became alarmed and went back on the Prozac - symptoms disappeared. I want to get off the drug - Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome, we're glad you found us!! Klonopin normally is prescribed 2 x a day, is this how it was prescribed for you? This is how it was prescribed to me and I have no problems sleeping. Talk to your doctor about your sleep problems, I'm sure he'll have a solution for you. Take care!
Avatar n tn my doctor said we had to get a small dose back into my system before weening off it completely, so she prescribed me with 10mg of non extended-release paxil (essentially 24-hour paxil) to take everyday, then to cut that pill in half to get 5mg and then a liquid paxil to keep going down 1 mg until I'm no longer taking it.
Avatar f tn t feel added anxiety this week? Is IST life threatening? Is IST harmful for the heart? Have you heard of Paxil causing IST or mono causing it? Do women in late twenties , early thrities sometimes have IST? and what can I do to calm myself during these horrible episodes of IST? I try to calm myself but the last time I did, the heartrate wouldn't go down. It did eventually but I felt like the deep breaths weren't helping me. Thanks very much for your insight into my questions.
Avatar n tn Even before those ever started i was always checking my heart rate numerous times a day because of my anxiety. After those pauses in my heart rate started i check my heart rate 200 to 300 times a day.I know that is not what normal folks do but i can't help it! I am totaly obsessed and scared to death about my heart.Even writing about this is hard task for me because i am getting shakes and anxiety!
1644242 tn?1300980790 I just did not feel it as much but it was still there none the less. I felt like the Paxil actually caused me more problems with my heart so i eventually tapered off the Paxil and eventually quit taking it all together. I did ok after that having no problems with my heart beating fast when I woke up but still had have the pounding sensation. The one thing that has been constant since before and after the A Fib took place was the desensitization getting worse every year.
Avatar f tn see doctors and they tell me my heart is fine that its anxiety. ive been on paxil since i was about 15 yrs old. thought i was doing good but guess not anymore. does a anxiety med stop working after a period of years? im also taking xanax .25 every other few days. i try my hardest not to take it, but when im at work with these feelings i have no choice.
Avatar m tn I did the best I could to just realize my symptoms were in fact anxiety and panic attacks. a couple years later I started taking Paxil. Things became much better, felt fine and myself again. However this past summer I started having waves of anxiety and surges of adrenaline out of nowhere. Now I feel Im heading into that spiral of just existing as if Paxil can no longer help. I'm work out regularly and that now is creating concern.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had a bad reaction to lexipro and was able to take another antidepressant without any problems? I mean not that lexipro did'nt work but got as bad reaction when first dosed and tried another antidepressant and had not problem? Thanks for your input!
Avatar n tn Some studies have reported a doubling of the risk of heart birth defects in babies when mothers take paxil in the first trimester, but even if these studies are true it must be born in mind that heart defects are uncommon in the first place, so that even if the risk really is doubled, they are still pretty uncommon.
673515 tn?1234320119 Take Tums or something similar for the heart burn, and go back and get your Paxil re-evaluated, or switched to a different medication.. This could be anxiety with panic attacks, and the more you worry about it, the worse it will get.
Avatar f tn I've been given Paxil ( praxitine ) to treat anxiety been on it for 8 days now today is really bad sweating hands feet, trembling, heart palls, breathing is an issue at times too . Could these meds actually be making me worse or is this part in parcel of taking antidepressants in the early stages ? I'm on 20 mg a day taken in the morning .... It's like this wave of fear comes over me and I feel so faint on this stuff ...
Avatar f tn I have a wicked anxiety disorder, for which I take 40 mg of paxil daily. I know paxil can cause heart and lung problems for the baby. I obviously want no harm to come to our baby but I am TERRIFIED of stopping the Paxil. The last time i tried I got the withdraw symptoms of derealization and depersonalization. it was the most horrifying experience of my life. I do not ever want to feel that again. So, any advice on this would really help.
Avatar m tn SSRIs often interact with the metabolism of lots of medications. Paroxetine (Paxil), Fluoxetine (Prozac) and Citalopram/Escitalopram (Celexa, Lexapro) are inhibitors of CYP2D6 - the enzyme responsible for metabolizing lots of medications. Fluvoxamine (Luvox) is inhibiting another enzyme. Sertraline (Zoloft) do not have this side effect, and Venlafaxine (Effexor, a SNRI) is also perhaps a good choice, as itdood said.
