Paxil for social anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil for social anxiety

paxil

Avatar n tn I first tried Paxil (high school) and that worked pretty good for the social anxiety. I was taken off of Paxil after 1-2yrs. 2-3 years later I started voicing my problems again with anxiety and I was put on Zoloft (college). After several months, Zoloft was still not working and was stopped. My doctor suggested going back on Paxil (post-college). So I started Paxil again, however, the Paxil had no effect this time around (I guess I used my one and only "get out of jail free" card!!).
Avatar m tn im sorry to about the things your going through i thought i was going through the same thing because i let my anxiety get the best of me. i too was on paxil for about a week and it did give me some bad side effects. like seeing things in my sleep ( lights shapes and colours) also lots of talkingin my head which stopped me from sleeping. what kind of side effects did you have?
Avatar f tn I am 31 years old and I complain that I don't have many friends yet I avoid social situations almost always. It's a toss up for me to decide which is worse, having no one to hang out with or to put myself into a social situation where I may meet new people.I take Paxil to get me thru regular day to day activities. I was in prison for most of my 20"s and getting out made my social phobia worse because I only knew how to socialize with inmates and correctional staff.
5757880 tn?1395578022 Well, there is a genetic component to anxiety, and I would suspect that anxious parents could also create anxiety. But, I think, from all I have read that ADHD is the biggest cause as the person tries to cope with the ADHD. And frankly, if you were a part of it or not, doesn't matter. What does matter is that you are a part of helping him deal with it. In terms of your anxiety question. My go-to-guy for this is Dr. Charles Parker at Corepsyc.
Avatar f tn Pristiq is approved for depression, but may also help with panic disorder and anxiety.
Avatar f tn Are you on paxil for panic anxiety, social anxiety, depression or what? That is vital information that you should share so that we can make proper suggestions.
Avatar m tn Also, the only one SSRI who work in the past for my panic disorder is the Paxil... but hte Paxil do nothing for the social anxiety, like all the antidepressant meds I try... anyway, the main problem is that I try to be back on The Paxil at least 10 times in 2010 and wasn't able to tolerate more than 1 mg at the time... I had increase anxiety to the point that I had to go to the ER... So I don't know what do to?
Avatar m tn I was treated from the ages of about 13 to 19 for social anxiety disorder with paxil. I have no family history of neurological problems. I have been taking lexapro since it was prescribed to me initially at a start dose of 10 mg tapered up to 30. Recently, my psychiatrist has added seroquel at 100 mg twice a day. It should be noted that i stopped taking paxil on my own about 4 years ago.
Avatar f tn I take 40 mg of paroxetine, the generic for Paxil. My anxiety attacks have lessened but am still getting them 2-3 times a week. Way down from 2-3 per day. I have social anxiety as well and manic depression with suicidal tendencies. I was also prescribed .5mg of Xanax, actually the generic for it, and it only helps if I take 2 of them, sometimes I have to take 3. But when I take them, I fall asleep pretty fast and stay asleep for at least 12-15 hours straight. But then I feel great.
Avatar m tn Hi: I have general anxiety with a tendency towards social anxiety. I used to have panic attacks but haven't had one in a couple years. I also suffer with depression. What drug has helped you? I am now taking Klonopin for the anxiety and Prozac for depression. I would like to cut the Klonopin or at least cut down (now taking 1 mg/day). The Prozac isn't helping my depression at all and I have given it months to work.
Avatar f tn First of all, I have a mild level of social anxiety. I was 18 when I started to search for some kind of treatments. One day I saw this drug called Paxil CR on the internet, which has reviews of people swear by it and call it a magic pill. So I went to the pdoc and was excited to try it. The first year taking it, it was working great. I felt REALLY confident and actually was excited to be with people. I thought I finally overcame anxiety.
Avatar m tn hi mehrshad, wheather you are taking Paroxetine (Paxil) for depression or anxiety or panic or ocd or ptsd or social anxiety, you should know that it is a HIGHLY EFFECTIVE medication. what about the medication worries you? you can discuss with your doctor about starting only half the starting dose initially to give you some assurance of its side effects. paxil can be sedating so most people take it at night. the top 3 side effects are headahces, nausea and sexual dysfunction.
Avatar f tn Hey, for me Paxil did the trick! It took awhile to kick in, but when it did, it worked great. I took 10mg for 6 months and then bumped it up to 20mg for another 6 months...currently on it still...trying to get off of it soon though...hope you find something that helps you.
Avatar m tn Hi Doctor I have been off an SSRI for 2 years and I feel OK, I have low grade depression and social anxiety. When I first took Paxil like 8 years ago it worked wonders for my depression and anxiety. My hands stopped shaking in stressfull situations, I got a good job, I went out with friends, I felt 90% cured while on Paxil. I took celexa and lexapro after this with mixed results.
1618921 tn?1298822821 I find the Celexa to be not effective at all for my anxiety, I gained a lot more weight on it than on the Paxil, around 5 pounds a week, I was extremely tired all the time, had bad headache, no motivation, had panic attacks all the time... more than before I was put on it, my social phobia was also worse cause of the weight gain... even after 3 months on it at 40 mg I was anxious all the time... so I just stop it.
1035021 tn?1296820707 Hi there, I suffer of anxiety attacks and this was increasing my blood pressure very high, I went to see a cardiologist and he gave me XANAX for anxiety cause I wanted to know if this was the main cause of my high blood pressure episodes... At the same time my General Doctor gave me PAXIL for the same thing, telling me that this med was less addictive and will help me for panic attacks and anxiety long term.
1432824 tn?1283383088 I have been on Paxil and Risperdal for years and both have worked well for me. In the past few months I have been experiencing other health issues..I have a hypothyroid and my period came and then never went away. I have been working closely with my OB/GYN to fix this problem. Last monday I had a DNC and they administered a Depo-Provera shot to get the bleeding under control.
Avatar n tn I am the same way. I have social anxieties (for about 7 years now), and I'm a hypochondriac. I was on Paxil for about 6 years and I finally got off of it. (Do not stop Paxil w/out doctor supervision!) I take Hydroxozine now. Talk w/ your doctor about it. It's not the strongest thing, but it works when you need it instead of having to build it up in your system like Paxil. It works for about 8 hours and I haven't had any side effects.
7286884 tn?1389847536 I am off of it 10 months and still have crippling anxiety, forced to go on disability at age 28. Mind you before paxil... Occasional depression,.. After paxil anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, and like I said no one knows if it will ever stop. Psychiatrists don't acknowledge protracted aka long term withdrawal. I'm screwed for the next 50 years. I will never marry, have a job, etc.
Avatar m tn I am on 10mg of paxil and 25mg of "major tranquilizer" for my anxiety. After having a panic attack and going to the ER twice in the span of three days. I just started my meds about five days ago. The problem I am having is that when the sun starts setting outside my anxiety ramps up. When I was in the ER I was given xanax 25mg to calm the attack down. I have had to use it again twice now because of the severity of my anxiety around this time of night.
