paxil for ocd treatment

I don't know the history of your son's medications, obviously. I don't know if so many didn't work he ended up on Paxil (a high dose at that) and abilify (as mentioned above, a medication approved reluctantly by FDA and only for limited purposes for what I assume were good reasons). What I do know is these are two very difficult medications to take and to stop taking, and would be a very strange place to start for just OCD.

Hi, I was going to start taking Paxil because of OCD on HIV. I was wondering does that affect the HIV test if I take it again in 3 months? Can that give a false negative result by taking Paxil? Also how helpful is Paxil? Thanks.

What anti depressant do you think would be good for anxiety and ocd? Also, I have noticed since being on the prozac that my hands are always shaky.

She has been diagnosed with OCD, PTSD, Selective Mutism, and Tourette Syndrome. She takes Paxil, Klonopin, and Pimozide. My husband has a panic disorder, so he and Mary share a special understanding. They are able to communicate openly about their feelings, and are very supportive of each other. I've encouraged both of them to talk with me, or other family members during times of difficulty. It's kind of a rule in our house that no one suffers in silence.

I started taking Paxill a month before treatment to avoid any depression problems and it worked marvelously for me. In fact - I probably needed it all along and never really realized it. It does take about amonth for your body to get used to it...then you feel just fine.

I have been taking Paxil for 12 years now. I suffer from PTD, OCD and Bi Polar Disorder. I have notice that since I started taking Paxil I have gained 50 pounds and even with change in eating habits and exercise it is difficult to lose the weight. I have tried to get off Paxil only to suffer from withdrawals which are nasty. Nause, dizziness, vomiting, cold chills, shaking. Now, even when I forget to take it 1 day I experience these symptoms.

I have been on Paxil for over 6 years. Almost off of it and then went back up in dose only to have it not work for me. Started having weird side effects at 40mgs and started tapering down to get off it. Down to 7.5mgs after many months of hell! I have one Dr who wants me to take Klonopin and add lexapro to my paxil, titrating one up and one down till I am off Paxil.

Thanks for the response. I have been on Paxil for 4 years, and have hit a plateau, I think. My doctor said that paxil is just not right for me anymore, and that I am very sensitive to medications. I started Cymbalta 4 days ago, to help with everything, because the paxil stopped working. When I said heavily, I meant that, I only use klonopin when needed. I ussually never took it, but the times I did need it, I had to take it a few days in a row. My doctor said that, that brings down my mood.

I'm hoping someone here can help, perhaps a Ph.D. or someone with knowledge/experience of medicines-- I have been diagnosed ADHD since I was a little kid (early grade school) and diagnosed with social anxiety at 17yrs old (towards the end of high school). I've been on and off multiple medicines for both (I've been on 5-10 different drugs; see my personal feedback below on some of the meds if you are interested in that information). I also very much think I have OCD.

I took paxil for 6 years and it changed my life. I went off of it to try to get pregnant but got really depressed so had to get back on. Within 2 weeks I felt so much better and took away the derealization I was having to ( worst feeling in the world ) then when I found out was pregnant I got off paxil again.

Many people are placed on antidepressants before they even start treatment. Either of these drugs (Paxil or Zoloft) could be used for anxiety and either could be used for depression. I know there are more but without researching I cannot remember the names. I think if you tell your doctor you want something that is not addicting, hopefully he/she will know not to prescribe benzodiazipines but rather proscribe a medication like Zoloft.

3 years ago a physician friend prescribed PAXIL for my mild OCD symptoms, my own diagnoses. Obsessive worries/somewhat irrational worries during a time of much stress. It did help. But, now I am ready to employ some exposure response prevention and willpower. I have not even seen the physician in years. Just got script with 10 refills. Well now I am experiencing some horrific withdrawal symptoms I was on only 20mg. for years. Took 10mg. for weeks.

I can only tell you that Dr. Gould gave me the same answer, and he's wrong. People do not all suffer the same results. I have been suffering Paxil withdrawal for three years now; they tried Lexapro on me, but it didn't work. For the past year i am on 50 mg of cymbalta which helps my back pain,depression but seems to do nothing for my ocd. is this a good drug for ocd?

hi there I have been taking zoloft, but as u see, seems it is not work very well, my doc has changed Paxil for me and hope it works. All together, I took paxil for 6 years. I decided to stop taking it because it kept me from concentrating and memorizing which is vital since I am in college to be a school teacher. Medications can also cause obsessive thinking. But the treatment short of medication, meaning therapy, is a lot different for OCD than what you folks are calling Pure O, which is present in every mental disorder and in everyone without one from time to time. OCD is treated by desensitizing one to the compulsive behavior with the theory that once one realizes you don't have to do the compulsive behavior you'll stop having the obsessive thoughts. That's the theory, anyway.

I was also told to eat turkey for L Tryptophan. Do you think this is an appropiate treatment for ocd? I had taken an SSRI called Prozac before but I was not able to tolerate it as they used to cause some pressure in my head so my doctor had told me to stop taking the pills. Does Cognitive Behavioral Therapy help ?
