Paxil for migraines

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil for migraines

paxil

Avatar f tn I just started Paxil too and have only been on it for 2 days and get migraines! A migraine is different from a typical headache it's normally just in one part of your head. I actually had a brain tumor and had it removed 6 months ago. I felt better right after surgery then I do nowZ ridiculous! I was hoping my headaches weren't related and this makes me feel better! They did an MRI 2 1/2 months ago and everything was healing fine. I'm 21 weeks pregnant too.
Avatar f tn I justed started paxil 2 days ago and have had migraines for the past 2 mornings when I wake up....I only take 10 mg at bedtime....I am verysensitive to anti-depressant but my PA says I am getting so bad I have got to get on something....I have tried over 20 anti-depressant drugs in all the different class types and they all give me bad side effects to the point I have to quit them in about 2 to 3 weeks cause I cant take it anymore...
Avatar n tn I have been taking a very HIGH 120-150 mg Paxil which is twice the recommended dose. I came off cold turkey but immediately took Zoloft which is for anxiety also. I was taking 1000 mg just to feel half normal. I was still jumpy and jittery and had the worse migraine that you could ever know. It was excruciating!!! I mean my temp was up, I thought my brain was about to explode. My heart was racing. I was told that if I did not have the Zoloft that I would of died.
Avatar n tn I have been taking paxil for almost 10 years and 40 mg per day for the last 5 years. One of my doctors and I decided to take me off the Paxil and try Wellbutrin. My family doctor advised against it so know I am being weaned off the Paxil with "one of its sister drugs". I am having severe withdrawal: depression, sleepliss nights, headaches that mimic migraines, blurred vision, dizziness, irritable bowel, etc.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your comments. I don't believe the Paxil is working for my depression anymore. Not sure if it's causing my sleep issues. I need to see my doctor and discuss all of this with her.

1056589 tn?1273747102 Hi there. I have been suffering from migraines for years. I would say that most of my migraines with auras come while I'm sleeping. I either remember the aura from a dream and wake with the headache or I wake up in the morning with the aura around 7am. I haven't discussed this with a doctor so I don't know why sleep tends to "cause" these. But it's definitely a possibility for you.
Avatar m tn When I was a baby I burst the eardrum , as a child I suffered vertigo and constant migraines. Today I´m 21 years old and I have vertigo and panic attacks, the doctor prescribes me PAXIL but every time when we try to removed the medication I have episodes of vertigo and panic attacks again. The neurologist and Otolaryngologist made me magnetic resonance scanning and tests of vertigo and determined that middle ear is the problem.
Avatar n tn I am also on paxil now for 3 weeks and also on 5mg because I am very sensitive to medications.....I had a rough 8 to 9 days with migraines, nausea, ill feeling, severe dizziness and increased anxiety....I feel like you do....I wonder if it will get better and if its going to help at all....if its not going to do anything for my anxiety I dont want to stay on it but everyone keeps telling me to stay on it....now I just feel so fatigued and weak and blurry vision daily....
Avatar n tn Yes! I knew benzos prevented some kind of learning. I'm somehow magically withdrawing from Cymbalta (after 7 days of being on it...???) and I'm pretty sure the Klonopin isn't doing much considering my nerves are through the roof the past few days. The WD rebound anxiety is pretty strong. Effexor made me jittery the first four days or so - most stimulation AD to date - but I ended up feeling really numb on it, which definitely took the edge off of going from 1mg to .75mg of Klonopin.
Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for 2 years, diagnosed with hypothyroidism 1 yr ago... Long story short, I'm trying to get off Paxil now, hoping that my depression was caused by thyroid. I weaned myself (doctor approved) down to 10 mg, doc said I should be fine to stop taking it... Now I am having SEVERE headaches and nausea. I don't want to get back on this med, and would prefer to suffer through withdrawals, however it's very difficult to function when I'm feeling this way.
Avatar n tn It could well be withdrawal from both meds that are giving you severe headaches. I know that after coming off depakote I suffered with severe migraines for about a month, that and bad dizzy spells. If you are worried then it is worth mentioning it to your pdoc when you next go, or ringing and discussing it over the telephone.
Avatar n tn I tried many antidepressents but again because of my tachacardia many wernt right for me. Paxil was what I was on for about 17 years. They changed it to lexapro i guess because my body was so ammuned to the paxil i just fell back into a deep depression I was on 40 mg of paxil, I take 20 mg of lexapro. I take 100mg of toprol for my tachacardia which I hade an ablation done for in 97. I take 10 mg of the vivactyl at bedtime, just started 2 nights ago , so i dont know if its going to work yet.
Avatar f tn just wondering if you take beta blockers for a couple of months and it seems to work can you eventually get off of them.. ive had depression and headaches since i was sixteen.. i was under a lot of stress.. needless to say i have taken a lot of antidepressants including paxil, zoloft, lexapro, wellbutrin, and finally effexor.. thinkin that it would get rid of my headaches.. it does help but doesnt get rid of them.. so im back to the idea that i have migraines may maybe caused by stress...
Avatar f tn Hi, I recently started seeing a board certified doctor who also believes in vitamins and herbal supplements. Now you need to check with a doctor to make sure that you don't have any other medications that these supplements might mess with but I'm taking feverfew for both migraines and asthma. Also magnesium is a relaxer and helps people get to sleep. Check it out online and check with a doctor. This might be a muscle relaxing idea.
Avatar m tn About 4 years later the anxiety returned though not as severe and has been manageable. I have been on Paxil for 10 years now and am 42 years old. I had my OBGYN check my hormone levels and there are no abnormalities. The anxiety has started to limit my life and I cannot walk up stairs without having a panic attack and cannot get into an elevator. My career demands I attend meetings and court hearing that I must attend on high floors.
Avatar m tn Why Paxil? Is this your first med you've tried for anxiety? And why are they giving you this before eliminating all possible physiological causes -- I've just listed several and I didn't even have to think about it. Just asking.
Avatar f tn All together, I took paxil for 6 years. I decided to stop taking it because it kept me from concentrating and memorizing which is vital since I am in college to be a school teacher. In addition, I gained so much weight due to the medicine. My doctor helped me get off of the paxil which was a horrible experience that I never want to repeat again! Now my anxiety has come back and it is becoming worse. I tried lexapro and it didn't help.
Avatar f tn Hey, for me Paxil did the trick! It took awhile to kick in, but when it did, it worked great. I took 10mg for 6 months and then bumped it up to 20mg for another 6 months...currently on it still...trying to get off of it soon though...hope you find something that helps you.
Avatar n tn For the past several months I have noticed feeling anxious and having a hard time concentrating, along with what feels like pressure or fogginess building up in my head.
Avatar f tn Hi! I started paxil six weeks ago for anxiety. I started at 10 for the first week and then up to 20. At four weeks the doctor suggested I increase to 40 because I wasn't having any improvement. I didn't go all the way to 40mg, but I have felt better since going up to 30mg. Today, I have all my anxiety back. I was looking for some help/advice. I also take lorazapem in the mornings. Thank you!
Avatar m tn I have anxiety for no reason at all which baffles me and keeps my mind going nuts most of the time. For the better part of 10 years my issue was controlled through paxil or paxil cr and a little bit of Clonazepam. Over the past year, my anxiety has gotten much worse and paxil doesn't seem to work anymore like it did. Over the past 5 months I have come off of paxil, switched to Lexapro, switched back to Paxil CR upping my dose (50mg) to see if that would work.
Avatar n tn I am a 20 year old, 5'2", 115lb. female and for the past year or so I've been on Paxil, but my entire experience with Paxil is that it makes me nauseous and shake no matter how long I take it for. My body can't seem to get over the side-effects, so for a while I was only taking the Paxil every three to four days (they were extended-release pills) and I seemed to be alright. But for the past few weeks I decided to try to get off Paxil completely.
Avatar f tn SHe told me to keep taking Paxil for just a week which she perscribed me cymbalta for 30 mg for a week with the paxil then she has me on 60 mg of Cymbalta and she told me to stop taking Paxil when i start taking 60mg. So is she weaning me off the Paxil along with the Cymbalta? And is this safe for a week of taking cymbalta 30mg and Paxil 20mg for a week?
Avatar m tn Hi! I have been taking Paxil for 20 years. I have recently been struggling w/ more intense anxiety and depression and irritability. I am switching from Paxil to Cymbalta, and am down from 30 mg of Paxil to 5 mg, and then up to 60 mg of Cymbalta. I feel like I am having a racing heart/palpitations. I am not sure if it's anxiety, Paxil withdrawal, side effects from Cymbalta, or there is something wrong with my heart.
