Paxil for menopause symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil for menopause symptoms

paxil

Avatar f tn My bf is very understanding, thank God. I am also currently taking Paxil for anxiety, and panic attacks. I also take tylenol pm at night. Not sure why that matters, but wanted to give a full history I guess. I feel like I'm pms'ing every single day. Help help help.
Avatar f tn The change in meds. probably would have been ok if not for menopause. So the Dr. looked into dosages and changed the meds. again. It took her about a month to recover but it worked. This may be a little off as I am not a Dr. and I am not sure of all the particulars of the situation, but I think I got it pretty close. I hope you can get this resolved for you as well.
Avatar f tn I posted this question on another forum before seeing this one....here goes....I weaned myself off paxil after having been on it for 5 years...I wasn't having any more panic attacks, seemed like the thing to do, right? About 2 months later I started having muscle aches that wouldn't go away. The doctor ran a blood test and said I might have Lupus. Had to wait 4 weeks to see a specialist... did bloodwork...had to wait another 2 weeks to get the results.....no lupus.
2129876 tn?1335500274 Hi, I'm a 41 yo female and was on 20 mg Paxil for at least 2 yrs. It did the trick, but I didn't like that it took away my interest in the bedroom scene, and I started seeing a psychiatrist Jan 2012 to start the taper process. We are doing: 10 mg x 14 days, 5 mg x 10 days, (liquid)- 2.5 mg x 10 days, 2 mg x 10 days, 1.5 mg x 10 days, then stop. I don't remember how long I've been on the 10 mg, but just before I switched, I had a hot flash out of nowhere.
Avatar n tn Thank you for the reply. The symptoms of the vertigo and the (listed) symptoms of Paxil withdrawal are about the same, and yes, I have been having the dizziness...mostly when I turn my head back and forth as in driving however, it's only happened 4-5 times out of the last month or so(actually within the last week). For the last 2 yrs I've been telling Drs. that the feeling is worse in the morning, better in the afternoon.
Avatar f tn Of course being a worry wart I researched Paxil online and read some articles linking prolactin increasing from some SSRIS specifically Paxil to increase a Breast Cancer risk. The Paxil is working for me after all of these years of feeling out of sorts. Can you explain the breast cancer scare and if I should ask my Dr to switch to another SSRI? Thank you in advance for any advice.
Avatar f tn In 2007 I had a lumpectomy (1.9 cm tumor - ER positive, Her2 negative - negative for BRAC gene) I underwent radiaton and was put on tamoxifen. Two months ago I discovered a very small lump in same breast - turns out it was another tumor - 3mm in size. I just had a double mastectomy and now my doctor is recommending removal of my ovaries.
Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for 2 years, diagnosed with hypothyroidism 1 yr ago... Long story short, I'm trying to get off Paxil now, hoping that my depression was caused by thyroid. I weaned myself (doctor approved) down to 10 mg, doc said I should be fine to stop taking it... Now I am having SEVERE headaches and nausea. I don't want to get back on this med, and would prefer to suffer through withdrawals, however it's very difficult to function when I'm feeling this way.
Avatar f tn If they did, that would explain the delay of any menopausal symptoms, but 46 is a tad early for full blown menopause, not unheard of, but most women are still in the perimenopause stage at 46. Deciding whether or not to go on HRT is a very difficult and personal decision and one that needs to be made with the help of your OB/GYN and a great deal of research on your part.
Avatar f tn Hi gg, Yes I have taken meds for quite awhile for my anxiety. I take paxil for my panic attacks which works wonderfully and valium for breakthrough anxiety. Since I started taking the paxil I hardly ever take the valium tho I still have a lot of anxiety. I think I'm just used to it.
Avatar m tn ) - over 30 bags - 2 rounds of Cipro when I left the hospital, and 2 rounds of Fluconizole for the related yeast - developed a hemorrhoid (blush) after 4 weeks of antibiotic induced diarrhea - have been taking quality probiotics since 3rd day in hospital The latest issues and my questions: - at my follow-up last week, I told the NP that I was having a hard time getting any energy back and craving red meat and chocolate, which led me to suspect iron levels. She agreed and she ran a lab.
Avatar m tn i tapered off going from 30 mg for 20 years to 15 for a couple years to every other day at 15 for a couple months, then i went to see my 'addiction' doctor who said there was no need for me to continue the slow gradual slide, but that i should "just quit. stop." so, even though i was experiencing an increase in emotionality and sweating, especially when i "feel" something strongly. i did it.
Avatar f tn There is no easy solution. Both seroquel and Paxil are notorious for weight gain. And I question the existence of bipolar 2 -- many believe this is made up by pharmaceutical companies so they accumulate medications in people who react poorly to ssris. Sound familiar to what's happening to you? Menopause causes so many emotional problems by itself, how anyone could diagnose you with bipolar 2 at the same time sounds odd at best.
Avatar f tn I think you are right about the withdrawal symptoms from going from one med to the other without weaning off first. Thanks for your advice. Will look into going and seeing a psychiatrist for help with this! Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn Thanks for your comments. I don't believe the Paxil is working for my depression anymore. Not sure if it's causing my sleep issues. I need to see my doctor and discuss all of this with her.
527657 tn?1214051850 t use a doctor for it because what they use is more dangerous than the problem. Is the Paxil causing you to have sexual problems? It's a common symptom, and gave me problems. My sex drive has been reduced a million percent since I've been on antidepressants. It's a common side effect, as is difficulty reaching orgasm, for both men and women. But for God's sake, if you want sex, have it; if your husband is understanding, he won't mind, trust me.
159785 tn?1276226025 I always pictured menopause as dealing with hot flashes and other female symptoms --- NOT feeling like getting run over by a truck! I wake up over and over at night, not just with the hot flashes, but with an emotional as well as physical feeling that actually creeps up my body, like my skin is crawling, accompanied with a terrible panicky feeling. I paid attention to the feeling this morning, and figured out what it's like.
Avatar f tn All together, I took paxil for 6 years. I decided to stop taking it because it kept me from concentrating and memorizing which is vital since I am in college to be a school teacher. In addition, I gained so much weight due to the medicine. My doctor helped me get off of the paxil which was a horrible experience that I never want to repeat again! Now my anxiety has come back and it is becoming worse. I tried lexapro and it didn't help.
