Paxil for agoraphobia

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil for agoraphobia

paxil

Avatar f tn I have been on paxil for ten years and the last year and a half it has not worked like it use to. So my doctor started weaning me off paxil 50mg to 40mg for a week then 30mg for three days then 20mg of paxil at night with 25mg of zoloft also at night.I seen the doctor again today and now Im taking 50 mg of zoloft in the morning and 20mg of paxil at night. The reson that I have been on ssri"s is for terrible panic attacks with agoraphobia.
Avatar f tn , thought I must have been in a car wreck to be on pain meds, misread my post to say I was on Paxil. Yes, I was on pain meds for 6 months for a back problem....by body of course did get dependent on it. I had to taper. So what. So now she predicts relapse? I NEVER said I was on benzos from a car accident. I think we should be careful not to give advice without all the facts.
774736 tn?1311331385 I was diagnosed with GAD earlier this year and have gone through horrific panic attacks, agoraphobia, and many other anxiety related nightmares but lately Ive been struggling with sleep deprivation...Every day for the past couple months I have not been able to sleep at a reasonable hour...I have to completely exaust myself to finally get to sleep and before I do, I go through a period of feeling "under the influence", as if im drunk or high...
Avatar f tn Hi. I've been suffering from panic disorder with agoraphobia for most of my life. I've been on xanex for 20 years on 4 mg/day. Recently I read that the xanex is short acting and only lasts 4 hours. Also that it stops working after a while. I didn't have any problem with it before reading that stuff. Since I read it I found that it does wear off after 4 hours. I have tapered down off the xanex for fear that my dr. might one day not prescribe it anymore.
Avatar m tn I have panic disorder with agoraphobia and also depression. The paxil helped me very much for depression - not so much with pani or anxiety although I know it is prescribed for that purpose. I went off of it in July and back on it in November as I was very depressed. I recently went back off of it and am doing O.K. I was lucky in that I never had much of a problem in going off or on paxil. I believe it took 3 to 6 weeks for it to work. How many mg. are you on?
Avatar f tn What does seem to happen is that anti-depressants can prevent absorption of magnesium, which is responsible for relaxing the muscles. But it could be something entirely different. I assumed for years that my neck pain was a response to my agoraphobia, but it turned out to be deteriorating discs in my cervical spine from an old auto accident. If it's due to overwork, an orthopedist should be able to tell by looking at pictures, but not always.
Avatar f tn re most likely to get first for anxiety. Just stay away from Paxil and try to stay away from the snris unless it's a last resort. But whatever you do, again, if you haven't tried therapy at least several different times keep trying to see if you can break your cycle of thinking.
Avatar n tn I was suffering from Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia. I was on 25mg of Paxil CR for 2 years and my dose was lowered a few months ago to 12.5mg a day. I have started to have some panic attacks... few and far between, but I got so used to not having any attacks and living a more normal life. I really don't want to go back up to 25mg of Paxil - I gained 40 pounds in less than 6 months and have gained a total of 55 pounds now.
Avatar n tn Ive been to 2 therapist for panic disorder with agoraphobia, they both say the same exact things, list the same types of things to help but none of it works. I'm taking paxil, which also doesnt work. I get all the terrible sideeffects from the medication but none of the help. I was able to somewhat deal with my anxiety when i had friends, but now i don't have any. So im really not sure where else there is to turn? Is there any solution besides therapy and medication?
Avatar f tn Oh dear, I sincerely feel for you. I was on paxil for two years, and it was hell trying to get off that drug!! I had every symptom you mentioned, and thos damn body zaps were the worst. Its gonna take awhile, but you can do it!! Just know you deff can get through this, and every symptom your feeling, no matter how horrific, is normal.
Avatar m tn I have suffered from panic attack and agoraphobia for the past 33 years, I have been in and out of therapy, have tried Bio-feedback and every Antidepressant under the sun. I went to see one of the best doctors that treat my condition. After trying Paxil ( it almost killed me) it was determined that I was allergic to antidepressants. So my doctor put me on Xanax 1mg twice a day. Within a few days I could see and feel the difference.
792052 tn?1309742492 Well, you certainly are overwhelmed and have a lot on your plate. Having 5 children is a LOT and 6 month old twins would stress, tire, overwhelm someone with NO mental health issues. Your house is a wreck and I'd not expect it to be anything but that! I'm dead serious. I had two boys that were 15 months apart in age and it didn't clean the right way until they left for school!! Do you have any help or support at all? Do you have a mother, sister, mother in law, sister in law?
Avatar f tn There is a difference in treatment if you undergo therapy, which I would recommend, as the therapy for agoraphobia would be different than that for GAD or social anxiety, but there would also be some similarities. With medication, the same ones are used for all three with the exception of the propanolol, which is only usually helpful for social anxiety or public speaking fears. Because it affects the heart, if you do try it, make sure your psychiatrist explains it.
Avatar m tn I do not know of anybody doing this research, but the best way to find someone would be doing searches on the web for research on paxil, and then contact the authors of those papers because they would be the ones in that research community who would have word of mouth info re this subject. Hope that helps..
1321537 tn?1274470517 What other medication are you on? Sometimes anti-depressants are taken for anxiety also--like the SSRI's. I take Paxil for my anxiety...and when I was getting used to it (usually takes about a month) I took clonazepam, so I have some experience with it. I originally went on medication after the birth of my 3rd child. I was having some severe post-partum anxiety with panic attacks. First we tried cipralex, and it never actually started working for me...
Avatar n tn Thank you for your input. They had me on Paxil and Adivan at the same time. I didn't like the Paxil because it made it hard to get aroused during sex. And my sex drive went to nill. I was hoping this anxiety thing would go away over time, but I guess it's something we must deal with. The adivan worked at first, but now I have to double my dose to get the same result. Thanks for your prayers....I'll send some your way as well!
Avatar m tn I have been taking Paxil for 3 years for treatment of my depression and social anxiety. It has significantly helped my SA and has helped my depression a little. I sometiemes experience what I call " brain shocks" from taking Paxil. It is hard to explain what they are but you would know it if you had them. Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn Well I stopped taking Paxil for about two months. I decided to go back on. One dose of 20mg in the morning. When I got home. had a nap. woke up in a total disphoria. Had to be taken to the hospital by a friend. It seems the drug that helped me for so many years...cannot anymore. Is there anyone out there who has had a similar side effect. And are there drugs that are similar that can help? Anxiety. Panic attacks. Mild depression.
Avatar m tn i feel like the shakes or tremours will never go away, i was on paxil over a year ago, weind off of the paxil, started an new job, it sent me for a whirlwind, my anxiety attacks came back more severe, along with the tremours, tried paxil again, didn't work, doctor put me on effor and hydrobenzine, still wake up with shakes, not as severe, the doctor says it will take time, and they said most likely i will be on med's for most of my life.
Avatar m tn so I was prescribed Lexapro 10mgs since it was a newer medicine and more popular. I have been on it now for roughly 4 weeks. I felt good after 2 weeks. While taking the paxil I was also prescribed Clonazepam for Anxiety and for helping me sleep. I have been on this medicine several times over the past 5 years, usually at .5mg but currently at 1mg. My timing has always not been so great with my medicine as well. When I feel good, I forget how bad I felt and am ready to come off.
Avatar m tn My son is in the military. He suffers from mild agoraphobia and was originally prescribed Prozac. He had side-effects and to that and was prescribed Paxil and is concerned about developing side-effects to this as well. The only time that he is symptomatic is when standing in formation on a parade ground -- far from a daily occurance. It concerns him that he has been prescribed a daily, long-term medication to deal with a something that happens only occasionally.
13746467 tn?1441840515 PLEASE HELP........ I am at my wits end dealing with anxiety attacks. It has literally taken my life away. I first had anxiety 19 years ago, that lasted about 2 years. I was good until summer of 2012. It will be 3 years since I enjoyed life. I can't drive, go to family functions, be involved in children's activities.......nothing!!!! I was on Paxil and Klonipin for 2 years and finally gave up on the paxil. Still take the klonipin.
9114072 tn?1401766588 I take 40mg daily, but for my BP. I have been on it in the past too, for heart murmur symptoms, and it was always helpful for my anxiety as well (kind of a bonus!) Let me ask you, have you, or are you in any kind of therapy? If not, I strongly recommend that, preferably CBT. Medications can be effective in controlling the SYMPTOMS of anxiety and panic, but it's the therapy that makes the biggest impact.
Avatar f tn I was given Klonopin to take in conjunction with Paxil, just till the Paxil kicks in. I try to take only .25mg of Klonopin in the morning, but even with taking the Paxil (until it kicks in), I find myself needing another .25mg in the afternoon. As far as your dosage, I would of course call your Dr! Also, call your pharmacist. When my Dr gave me the Klonopin this past Saturday, he said it was "ok to take .5mg 3x a day, or as needed.
Avatar f tn I am on 4mg a day of klonopin, 50 of paxil (which I have been on for forever and just added abilify 2mg. Noting seems to help the anxiety...get bery tired and a little relief but constant nervous stomach....i am writing about my mornings...it takes just about everything not to throw up. Ihave to get myself ready for work, take care of the animals and get my daughter to her grandmas.....i need help...weeekends are horrible....i have a terrible time of leaving the house...
Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for 2 years, diagnosed with hypothyroidism 1 yr ago... Long story short, I'm trying to get off Paxil now, hoping that my depression was caused by thyroid. I weaned myself (doctor approved) down to 10 mg, doc said I should be fine to stop taking it... Now I am having SEVERE headaches and nausea. I don't want to get back on this med, and would prefer to suffer through withdrawals, however it's very difficult to function when I'm feeling this way.
