1512520 tn?1290258130 5 months and my anxiety is coming back, and havent lost any of the weight either. I need to go back on Paxil but need to find a way to battle the weight gain. I have heard combining Wellbutrin can help with maintaining but I have read more success stories with Topamax.
730044 tn?1231438020 the depression i feel from gaining so much weight or the reasons i started taking paxil in the first place. once i am off of paxil i will never tak it again. i am weening myself slowly.
Avatar n tn thanks to you for your insight. I ended up switching from Paxil CR 25 to Paxil 20 (gneric),which surprisingly my insurance pays for. I made the switch today with no adverse things happening, although I know it could be delayed. The goal at this point is to taper off the paxil 20, then get onto prozac. Although maybe I will just stay on the paxil if it keeps going well. The Paxil Cr has been great for me, but inusrance doesn't pay any of it, not even for generic.
Avatar n tn I have taken paxil CR 12.5 for 6 years. I am preparing myself to become a mom. I am very afraid from suffering the horrible withdrawls if I quit paxil. My doctor says that it's better to be on prozac during pregnancy. Can someone tell me where to find acurate research? I don't want to harm my baby but at the same I am super afraid of the withdrawls.
Avatar f tn Doc prescribed Aropax CR 25 (paxil) he said there was no need to wean off the cilift - weight steadily increased - Doc said impossible!!!?? I asked to change to Prozac (Nuzak - south africa) Again he said I could go straight from the one to the other! Been on Nuzak for about 10 days and not feeling nice. Very emotional - dizzy - nightmares and un-necessary anger. My question - do I stick it out on the Nuzak (for the weight issues) or go back to Paxil or in fact back to Cilift?
Avatar f tn Of course, that is what also makes them devilishly difficult to ever stop taking. As to Paxil and weight gain, I gained a lot on it, but others gain a lot on other meds and none on Paxil -- that is very individual.
Avatar f tn Hi Lori, I just wanted to say I am on this journey with you. I've been on Lexapro for five years (with the ocassional break). I have acute chronic anxiety and panic attacks. I've been weaning off 20 mg of Lexapro. I too am beginning to experience some of the symptoms that reveal my anxiety disorder. I cannot do SSRI's anymore - I've been on Paxil and Lexapro, both left me with weight gain (which dropped off quickly), and a complete loss of creativity.
Avatar m tn Does anyone else have HORRIBLE nausea from taking Paxil CR? I am on 25 mgs. and it is helping greatly with the depression. BUT the nausea is insane. I take it at bedtime with a snack and I am sick for half of the next day. Ginger tea, gingerale, Coke, oatmeal. Totally bland diet. It is one heck of a diet plan. Please help.
Avatar m tn Some people complain about weight gain while on SSRIs like Paxil and others even complain about weight loss. What has been really helpful for me is ensuring that I watch what I eat and exercise regularly. Remember, quite often, or weight gain has more to do with our lifestyle than what we are taking sometimes in my experience. Do you exercise regularly and watch what you eat? Keep us posted!
Avatar n tn paxil caused me to gain 40 pounds which i was almost able to lose through hard exercise and diet but then got pregnant... just work out it will come off, but it may be a little stubborn.
Avatar n tn I take paxil 25 cr now and it is working pretty good. My doc upped me to 37.5 and I noticed no difference either so went back down to 25 without a problem. I think as long as you are taking paxil going down on dose is not an issue, it's if you go off all at once but my son who is 14 and has just developed panic attacks was put on zoloft 50 mgs and it has helped him. I took zoloft first but gave me gastro problems so doc wanted me to switch.
Avatar f tn I started out taking 20 mg of paxil and ended up on 40 mg of paxil CR. All together, I took paxil for 6 years. I decided to stop taking it because it kept me from concentrating and memorizing which is vital since I am in college to be a school teacher. In addition, I gained so much weight due to the medicine. My doctor helped me get off of the paxil which was a horrible experience that I never want to repeat again! Now my anxiety has come back and it is becoming worse.
Avatar n tn Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.
527657 tn?1214051850 Paxil is not known to cause weight gain. In clinical trials, weight gain by people on Paxil was the same as for placebo, and therefore not deemed an adverse effect.
Avatar n tn Yes, paxil can cause weight gain, but not for everyone. If it does for you, ask your doctor about wellbutrin...you also might follow up on the emotional eating component that is causing you to be over weight at www. shrinkyourself.
Avatar n tn Sabrina, yes paxil, like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.
527657 tn?1214051850 Unfortunately, the side of effects of going off Paxil are worse than the weight gain. I was weaned off by my psychiatrist four years ago and ended up in the hospital for a month. I immediately went back on it. Unfortunately for me it's a lose/lose situation.
Avatar f tn I have been on Paxil for 8 months for panic attacks and the weight gain is getting so hard to deal with. I've decided to go off of it. Can anyone tell me if they lost the weight easily after going of it. Or possible suggest another anti anxiety med that doesn't have this particular side effect.
527657 tn?1214051850 I know paxil makes me gain weight but it really does work. What I would like to know is there another antidepressant that does not make u gain weight? I tryed prozac forget that my heart raced so bad i almose died.
1473147 tn?1286917921 Hard to imagine any psychiatrist or doctor allowing you to gain 100 pounds without having said something about Paxil being notorious for weight gain. If you choose to go back on it, you might try consulting a book called the Anti-Depressant Survival Guide by Hedaya -- it suggests dietary changes to help with this kind of side effect. It's not a great diet, but it should give you some ideas. Good luck.
Avatar n tn It's the Paxil -- big weight gainer! All of these meds for depression can cause weight gain, and it has nothing to do with normal metabolism. I exercised a lot and didn't eat any more, and gained 50 pounds over a period of years. You'll see reports of it with any antidepressant. You have to decide what's more important, feeling good or looking good if you're of the ones who experiences weight gain. Increased the dose for hot flashes? Now that's a quack.
Avatar f tn Hi all, Just wondering, is there any 1 out there that has had a positive experience with Paxil CR. I read alot of horror stories and am just wondering if it has actually helped anyone. You see, I have had panic disorder my whole life. I am 51 now. I was put on Paxil CR a few years ago and I thought it was a miracle drug. Totally got rid of my panic attacks. Still have some anxiety but am menopausal also.
Avatar f tn I am nervous about taking it because i am afraid of weight gain. I am a relatively thin person but nervous about the weight gain issue.

467977 tn?1262714747 Hi! Well, I still feel nervousness after taking my Paxil. I'm in week 6. They say what, 6-8 weeks? Will the nervousness "just go away like that?" or am I doomed, lol... :( I am wondering....should I switch to Paxil CR? I wonder if that would help any?
Avatar f tn I have been ready more bad than good about the side effects; particularly the weight gain and the withdrawal symptoms. I will stop taking this medicine ASAP if I can a couple of lbs. Does anyone have any positive things to say about Paxil or any other anti-depressant. The doctor told me I may gain 1 lb in a yr. I have read that people that were NEVER overweight have gained 20+ lbs...
