Common Questions and Answers about Paxil cr side effects

paxil

Avatar f tn Hi all, Just wondering, is there any 1 out there that has had a positive experience with Paxil CR. I read alot of horror stories and am just wondering if it has actually helped anyone. You see, I have had panic disorder my whole life. I am 51 now. I was put on Paxil CR a few years ago and I thought it was a miracle drug. Totally got rid of my panic attacks. Still have some anxiety but am menopausal also.
Avatar f tn I started out taking 20 mg of paxil and ended up on 40 mg of paxil CR. All together, I took paxil for 6 years. I decided to stop taking it because it kept me from concentrating and memorizing which is vital since I am in college to be a school teacher. In addition, I gained so much weight due to the medicine. My doctor helped me get off of the paxil which was a horrible experience that I never want to repeat again! Now my anxiety has come back and it is becoming worse.
Avatar m tn Does anyone else have HORRIBLE nausea from taking Paxil CR? I am on 25 mgs. and it is helping greatly with the depression. BUT the nausea is insane. I take it at bedtime with a snack and I am sick for half of the next day. Ginger tea, gingerale, Coke, oatmeal. Totally bland diet. It is one heck of a diet plan. Please help.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I have been on Paxil Cr for a few years. 25 mg. It has worked really well for my panic attacks but recently I lost insurance and won't be eligible for medicare for 8 months so I ordered my prescription from online pharmacy which I have done before with no problem. Since I was low on my meds and didn't want to run out before it got here I reduced dosage. Took 1/2 pill every other day only problem I had was balance issues which got better after a week.
Avatar n tn I have been taking 37.5 mg/day of Paxil CR for several years and because my panic attacks were interfering with my ability to work, my medical doctor and psychologist suggested that I switch to 50 mg/day of Zoloft. I am now on day 5 of Zoloft and can NOT stop crying. I'm also dizzy and nauseaous. I feel like I'm losing my mind and want to know if this is "normal" during transitioning from one SSRI to another and if so, WHEN WILL THIS END?
Avatar m tn I am starting week #5 of paxil cr (week 1 = paxil cr 12.5, week 2 = paxil cr 25, week 3- current = paxil 37.5) Everywhere I read its just "keep waiting it out. It will get better." My doc wants me to raise to paxil cr 50mg on Monday if I don't start feeling any better. That is double the old dose I was at that worked for so long! It just scares me to keep going up. I recently tried Lexapro and it was a disaster. I just need some positive feedback.
Avatar n tn thanks to you for your insight. I ended up switching from Paxil CR 25 to Paxil 20 (gneric),which surprisingly my insurance pays for. I made the switch today with no adverse things happening, although I know it could be delayed. The goal at this point is to taper off the paxil 20, then get onto prozac. Although maybe I will just stay on the paxil if it keeps going well. The Paxil Cr has been great for me, but inusrance doesn't pay any of it, not even for generic.
Avatar f tn I have taken 12.5 mg of Paxil cr for almost a year. I am not liking it or feeling better. My doc just switched me today from that to 5 mg of lexapro for two weeks then up to 10 mg of it. Said I can just switch cold turkey. I have read mostly people being tapered off slowly to switch. Has anyone here successfully switched immediately or should I wean somehow??

Avatar n tn I have discontinued Paxil 25 mg CR for 12 days now for family planning purposes. I was taking it for generalized anxiety disorder. I am under the care of my phychiatrist and OB Gyn. He suggested I taper off, but I chose the cold turkey route. I have done my research on the internet on withdrawl effects and I have just about experienced them all. From hot/ cold nightsweats, fatigue, diarrea, flu-like symptoms, nausea, dizziness, headaches, and shakiness.
Avatar m tn Thank you just idea going bcd on paxil is killing me
Avatar f tn Proper protocols call for weaning off a drug as slowly as you need before you start a new medication.
Avatar m tn I am 3 weeks back on Paxil after a failed attempt to switch medications to Lexapro. I have read a lot that Paxil loses its effectiveness after the first time. I (stupidly) have started, stopped & restarted Paxil on several different occasions and it always has seemed to work. I was on paxil 20mg originally then stopped cold turkey and went back on at Paxil CR 12.5. Upped dose over time to Paxil CR 25mg.
Avatar f tn I started the end of February with 12.5CR and just increased to 25 CR with no side effects and actually feeling much better these days. Of course being a worry wart I researched Paxil online and found a study that suggested Paxil is the worst SSRI to be on and that it is the only one that may increase my breast cancer risk. I was wondering how true these statements are and should I ask my Dr to switch me to another SSRI just in case. I am 55 years old and post menopause.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Paxil CR, 12.5mg for anxiety. I have been on it for about 3 months and week. It helped somewhat but there are days when I don't feel like myself. I would rather make some lifestyle changes to combat my anxiety. So, my doctor told me to stop taking it. I was afraid because of the horror stories that I've heard. So, he gave me a prescription for the regular Paxil; take 2 10mg for the first 3 days and then 1 pill a day for two days. I have the prescription...
Avatar n tn Im finally off paxil thank the good lord the weight gain was unbearable.

Avatar m tn I quit paxil almost two weeks ago. I have the classic symptoms. Flu like feeling, ringing in my ears ,Anxiety Cold @ hot flashes.I took 2- 25mg tabs cr daily for 5 years. I stopped taking the 25mg tab @ night & continued with the other 25mg tab for about a week then quit. Now I know I have to gradually stop. 3days ago I couldn't handle it anymore. I talked to a pharmasist@ she said To continue with the 2 tabs again @After a month gradually lower the dosage.
Avatar n tn Take it real solw and ask your doctor about taking Remeron to help take the edge of off the Paxil side effects. Did a great job for me! Lets you get to sleep at night and really helps with the anixety. However, it did keep me in a fog for a few days until my body adjusted.
1512520 tn?1290258130 I was on on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for 2 years, it worked well for the most part, did not gain any weight but it was ineffective for my anxiety and was not working as much for depression near the end. I started Paxil CR 12.5 mg for 6 months (second time I m trying Paxil), I felt great but 25 lbs crept on and it has made me severely depressed. I am now off Paxil for 1.5 months and my anxiety is coming back, and havent lost any of the weight either.
Avatar m tn Now I am on paxil cr( paroxetine cr ) 37.5 mg. still I am feeling social Anxiety. So I consulted My psychiatrist. He stopped paxil and prescribed zoloft (sertraline) 150 mg a day. morning dose 50 mg and night dose 100 mg for 15 days. what will he prescribe after 15 days that's I don't know but I want to know that can suddenly dose be changed like this?
Avatar m tn I have anxiety for no reason at all which baffles me and keeps my mind going nuts most of the time. For the better part of 10 years my issue was controlled through paxil or paxil cr and a little bit of Clonazepam. Over the past year, my anxiety has gotten much worse and paxil doesn't seem to work anymore like it did. Over the past 5 months I have come off of paxil, switched to Lexapro, switched back to Paxil CR upping my dose (50mg) to see if that would work.
Avatar m tn Im confused. I have been on SSRI's (Paxil & Paxil CR) in the past and they worked and I have come off on several occations, but currently I tried to swith to another SSRI which didn't work. Now I have been switched back to Paxil CR and I am currently on a new high of 37.5 milligrams for a week and a half and still don't feel that great. Is it usual to have a set back at every dose increase before it gets better?
Avatar n tn The more gradual the step down process, the more mild any side effects will be. And, Paxil, unfortunately is one of the meds that is a bit more problematic when it comes with withdrawal symptoms. I agree that you need to get with your doc, explain where you are and move forward with a new plan, guided by your doctor. You will feel better eventually, and probably quicker after you get on a reasonable taper plan.
