Common Questions and Answers about Paxil breastfeeding

paxil

229857 tn?1319029907 I really like that website too. That being said, it is always best to double check with your doctor/pharmacist before taking anything while pregnant and/or breastfeeding as some of the categories on the site may not be up-to-date. For instance, the website listed Paxil as a Class C drug for months after it was re-categorized by the FDA as a Class D drug - this has since been updated but I am just providing an example.
Avatar f tn I had been on Zoloft for the past 5 months and before that Paxil (the lowest dosages for both). When I found out I was pregnant I stopped taking Zoloft but the depression and anxiety has returned. I would like to go back on Zoloft but am concerned if, because I quit "cold turkey", it's okay to do so. Should I ease back into it, or can I continue to take it as I had been? I've tried contacting my doctor but have not received a response.
Avatar f tn I have a wicked anxiety disorder, for which I take 40 mg of paxil daily. I know paxil can cause heart and lung problems for the baby. I obviously want no harm to come to our baby but I am TERRIFIED of stopping the Paxil. The last time i tried I got the withdraw symptoms of derealization and depersonalization. it was the most horrifying experience of my life. I do not ever want to feel that again. So, any advice on this would really help.
Avatar f tn Do you think the Paxil that I have already taken will hurt my baby? I'm more concerned that the paxil has already done damage. I wonder if there is any way they can tell, or do i get to worry the whole pregnancy until my baby is born and they say "hey, you screwed up your baby" you know?
Avatar f tn Lots of anxiety and panic-trouble sleeping due to racing heart which I think is anxiety related. My ob-gyn suggested zoloft. My regualr MD is suggesting Paxil. I know zoloft is more for the depression side, and the paxil is for the anxiety/panic. I have suffered from depression and panic attacks inthe past-aout 6 years ago. I took Zoloft then Effexor. Cannot take the Effexor anymore due to the type of pill form it comes in-I cannot take the extended release due to gastric bypass surgery.
541196 tn?1293552936 I take Lexapro for depression and anxiety. It has really helped me tremendously. I am also diabetic and take Janumet. I would like to become pregnant soon and was wondering if anyone had experience with Lexapro while pregnant/breastfeeding. Do you know if it's approved or known safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Avatar n tn It has been more on than off for the past 10 years. I have been on prozac, paxil, lexapro, cymbalta, wellbutrin, and now effexor. Nothing seems to help. I just want to sleep. I keep hoping that one day I just won't wake up. Is there anything that will make me feel normal?
646779 tn?1281996041 Today is day 8 and I'm taking 20 mg p/day. The side effects have decreased a little since I posted this a few days ago. I am feeling less anxious. You say it stopped working for you - what do you mean exactly? Did your depression come back? I would hate for a med to stop working. I have been presecribed this particular antidepressant because I'm breastfeeding my baby and it's considered safer than other meds for that. I'm unsure at this stage if this med is the right one for me.
Avatar f tn I was on paxil for two of my pregnancies everything was fine. also, try a psychiatrist their expertise is anxiety meds and they would know it's affects. hang in there, we are here for you. there are lots of pregnant people on meds. there is an answer for you.
Avatar f tn erm well when i found out i was pregnant with my youngest i came off of the Paxil i was on... but very soon after my anxiety and panic came back in leaps and bounds and i found the pregnancy very hard to cope with. My doctor wouldn't give me any med's as they were concerned it would be harmful to the baby... apparantly some med's can cause withdrawal in new borns. So i was like in a spin...
Avatar f tn what is the proper way to taper back to paxil? 3. How unsafe is paxil with pregnancy and what other options do I have? HELP! I feel like I am losing my mind!!!!
Avatar f tn could be the cause of the sinus tachycardia so he recently switched me from Paxil to Lexapro. So the Paxil is now out of my system but I am still feeling the rapid heart beat. I know it's not dangerous since that is what the cardiologists have told me but I'm experiencing extreme anticipatory anxiety as to when my heart will speed up again and that something is going to happen to me, such as fainting or dying.
Avatar n tn Can I quit the paxil and take the klonopin 3 x a day as prescribed and safely get off Paxil. I am getting fat!
467977 tn?1262714747 I take Paxil and buspar on a daily basis. I used to only take the paxil, but I still had terrible anxiety in the morning. My doctor then added the buspar 2x a day. It helped me almost immediately. It took away that horrible nausea and anxiety by 90 % in the morning. Some people say that buspar isn't effective, but it has been very effective for me. I take Klonopin only on an as needed basis. (Which is very rarely). Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn Hi I have been on paxil for nine years.. I am currently 25 and feel like the paxil isnt working for me.. I also had tried stopping paxil for four months cold turkey.. it was HORRIBLE.... so i went back on 10 mgs.. now ive been on 10 mg for 3 years.. I just switched to zoloft over night.. as a doctor reccomended.. I am worried I will have paxil withdrawls symptons.. I really hope I dont.. I am taking 50 mg of zoloft.. i have felt ok since and its been four days... hopefully it will be fine..
Avatar n tn s a very tough drug to stop taking for most people. I will tell you I was on clonazepam and Paxil at the same time for years, but the Paxil was way more effective than the clonazepam. What may have happened is new challenges may have arisen in your life -- drugs don't cure anything, they just mitigate the symptoms but new challenges can override the effect.
Avatar m tn I am 3 weeks back on Paxil after a failed attempt to switch medications to Lexapro. I have read a lot that Paxil loses its effectiveness after the first time. I (stupidly) have started, stopped & restarted Paxil on several different occasions and it always has seemed to work. I was on paxil 20mg originally then stopped cold turkey and went back on at Paxil CR 12.5. Upped dose over time to Paxil CR 25mg.
Avatar m tn I would like information regarding the differences between Paxil and Prozac. I've used Paxil in the past, and the truth is that it is very hard to stop taking it. Right now I'm taking only 10mg (paxil) but I don't feel that is working anymore and have been thinking about switching to Prozac.
Avatar f tn My husband and I are trying to have kids. We have been trying for only a few month, however, we are not young anymore (35) and I don't want to wait a year before consulting with a doctor (as it usually recommended). So here is my question: My husband has been taking paxil for the past 13 years (10mg). From the research online I found out that paxil changes sperm DNA that reduces permeability and as a result reduces the chance for pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I have had EKG's, chest xrays, bloodwork and a holter monitor everything has come back normal. but still its like i feel every beat my heart makes, and i can work myself up into a severe anxiety attack in a matter of seconds. It used to be so bad that i hated to go to sleep for fear that i would die during the night. Anyone else experience this?
Avatar n tn s no way to know if it will do what Paxil did. They are different drugs. You need to withdraw from the Paxil first, not add new side effects from a new drug, until you've withdrawn.
Avatar n tn I have been on 20 mg paxil for panic attacks for 7 years, I've tried to wean from paxil(felt like had no energy on paxil) many times, unsuccessfully. I've recently switched to 20 mg prozac, without a taper. After about 5 weeks, I started to feel lousey-nausea, diarrhea, no appetite, depressed. Still feeling lousey. Would it likely be better to increase prozac, or switch back to paxil. If switching back to paxil, what are the best ways to do this.
Avatar n tn Yea, Paxil is a bad one for weight gain. Fair warning... If any doctor tries to put you on Remeron and weight is a concern for you then SAY NO WAY. I have been on both at differnt times in the past. You want to talk about weight gain? OMG! Remeron makes Paxil look like a diet pill! Taking Remeron is like wanting to be fat.
Avatar n tn Getting off Paxil (if needed) is really no worse that stopping any other antidepressant. Paxil is the one SSRI that people report the most weight gain with. This doesn't mean you will gain weight on Paxil. Everyone is different, but yes Paxil is notorious for weight gain side effects.
Avatar f tn SHe told me to keep taking Paxil for just a week which she perscribed me cymbalta for 30 mg for a week with the paxil then she has me on 60 mg of Cymbalta and she told me to stop taking Paxil when i start taking 60mg. So is she weaning me off the Paxil along with the Cymbalta? And is this safe for a week of taking cymbalta 30mg and Paxil 20mg for a week?
Avatar m tn once or twice a year. Could this be caused by the Paxil.. Am I heading to dementia ? Or is it because I am off paxil? I talked with my doctor and he asked if I would consider going back on paxil or trying another drug.
Avatar n tn thanks to you for your insight. I ended up switching from Paxil CR 25 to Paxil 20 (gneric),which surprisingly my insurance pays for. I made the switch today with no adverse things happening, although I know it could be delayed. The goal at this point is to taper off the paxil 20, then get onto prozac. Although maybe I will just stay on the paxil if it keeps going well. The Paxil Cr has been great for me, but inusrance doesn't pay any of it, not even for generic.
