Paxil and fish oil

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil and fish oil

paxil

Avatar f tn Is this your only problem? Paxil is the hardest antidepressant to stop taking, and you quit abruptly instead of tapering off slowly. But if lack of sleep is your only problem you actually did pretty well. I don't know that I can help you with the sleep, I've never found a solution to it. You're having a long-term withdrawal problem.
527657 tn?1214051850 Have you tried taking fish oil and vitamin E supplements along with the Paxil?
Avatar m tn d give it a couple days and try the fish oil.
944223 tn?1245869858 If it gets worse than you can handle, go back on the last dose of Paxil you were on and taper more slowly. But as I say, you might at this point want to just try the fish oil and get plenty of exercise, since it sounds like a mild withdrawal.
Avatar n tn ve been taking 10 mg paxil and 0.25 xanax, everyday for two years in the morning at 1040 and 540 then paxil 10 mg at night. If i stop taking the xanax i feel wierd. i read the withdrawl am so scared. I rather take paxil than xanax. I want to at least get off xanax but don't want withdrawls. what should I do? I think am addicted to them.
Avatar f tn I am an 18 year old female, and i was on the antidepressant/ anxiety medication Paxil for about a year two years ago. i suddenly stopped taking it because i got very sick and couldn't keep any medication or even water down for two weeks and then i just didn't go back to taking the medication.
Avatar f tn The danger of high cholesterol is its oxidation, not its existence, so eating a lot of colored veggies helps, and fish oil and wild cold water fish can help raise the good cholesterol, as can flax oil.
Avatar n tn Hi, I took Paxil for years for perimenopause. Went off of it last July after switching to Cymbalta and then lexapro and Citalopram (had a bad reaction to the citalopram and stopped everything). Been doing O.K. since then cause went through menopause. Some people have horror stories about withdrawing from Paxil but I didn't and I know of at least one other person who had no problems with stopping the paxil.
Avatar n tn It depends on the person. Paxil is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) and Effexor is an SNRI (serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) so they are two different types of anti-depressants and each one works differently on different people. Your doctor would know by asking questions which ones would work the best for you based on how you generally feel.
Avatar n tn Dear Hot flashes, I feel your sweat :) I suffer horribly from them too. Fish Oil ? all I ever got from fish oil was pimples and I'm 52 going on 53 next month. Right now I'm trying estroplus so far nothing is workingBut it has only been a few days. They say SSRI work(paxil, zoloft etc) well but you'll gain a ton of weight.
Avatar n tn s better to completely quit the Paxil and get over it before you try a new med. Try taking some fish oil and adaptogenic herbs like ashwandha to help with the Paxil withdrawal, exercise, keep active. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I have heard and tried fish oil for anxiety. I stopped when i got sick witht he stomach flu and just started back. I have been having a really hard time with anxiety lately probably bc a lot of my anxiety is health anxiety. Does anyone know how much magnesium should be used for anxiety? I read that it can help but nowhere have I seen dosing. Had anyone tried this?
Avatar m tn I think this is why taking the paxil stopped the dizziness and now the dizziness im having is being caused by paxil withdrawl.... So im going to try stepping down off it and using fish oil (which ive read really helps with the withdrawl. Does this sound reasonable and have you any more tips?
Avatar f tn The reason you gain weight is because of the reduction of your metabolism, But remember that all those chemicals thats stressed you out were the ones that kept you skinny too. If you want to stay skinny on ssri's I would sugest avoiding the typical diet and stict with one low in sugar and fats. Eat alot of vegatables and lean meats and take fish oil. Don't snack and don't eat carbs right before bed. Go for a walk everyday like you mean it.
Avatar m tn lots of psyc drugs cause nasty side effects and nasty withdrawls. Ive been on zoloft for five years and have liked it because for me it had no side effects. these meds react with people differently. I have GAD and am getting off zoloft bc I need something stronger but it helped with low- moderate anxiety and my depression.
1042487 tn?1275279899 I'm suffering with the brain zaps after coming off of Lexapro. I tapered off the Lexapro, incrementally and very, very slow. The withdrawal symptoms didn't start right away with my last dose which fooled me into thinking I would miss that part. But, alas not to be. Anyway, it's been 28 days with the zaps, shakiness, and irritablility. I started taking Primrose Oil and doubling up on my fish oil (2000mgs) around 10 days ago.
Avatar f tn going okay except for shoulder and hip joints aches. Is this pain something I can attribute to the paxil withdrawal?
Avatar f tn I spoke to the woman at the health food store and she suggested Vitamin D, B, and fish oil to help with some of the anxiety and depression symptoms - anyone gotten any relief from any of those???
Avatar m tn You might get more help if you make a new post, as this one is a couple years old, but that's not that old. I have some questions for you, as you can tell by my name that Paxil is why I'm on this forum. How long did you take to taper off of it? You were on it a very very long time, and given this is the most difficult antidepressant to stop taking, I hope you took as long as you needed. If you tapered off too quickly, that could explain the lingering problems.
Avatar f tn Many people have reported that hefty doses of fish oil help with the brain zaps, extra magnesium citrate can help with the muscle stuff, and some people get relief from St. John's Wort. And it takes as long as it takes, so relax with it, don't rush it. If your doc didn't taper you off and didn't warn you what to report, get a different psychiatrist.
Avatar m tn hi sailway, Ive got a very similar problem and MUCH more. It actually all started from tryingto get off the drug Paxil that Ive been on for about 7 years, and could never get off of. I know the feeling, very anoying. You may want to try fish oil high in EPA.
704329 tn?1518523098 so i did 30mg for a few days with 20prozac, then 20 with 20 a few days, then 10 paxil with 20 prozac, then 5 with 20 and then just 20 prozac. i was also taking fish oil during this weaning time. IT WORKED PRETTY GOOD. a little anxiety, but less then 1 brain zap a day, if that. im sweating like crazy too. i weaned be cause i gained 20 lbs and i was actually getting more brain zaps when on it. also when on it, i was having night sweats all night with vivid dreams. lack of motivation.
Avatar n tn d think enough has been written about this med to prevent anyone from quitting it cold turkey. But you did. Try taking a hefty dose of fish oil every day and see if it helps. These meds can have lengthy withdrawals, so everyone, please be careful out there.
Avatar f tn Yeah, I gained 50 pounds on Paxil over several years as well. But that was nothing compared to quitting the drug. Take your time, taper slowly, and try taking fish oil for the side effects. When you're off, try some St. John's Wort to ease down. Sometimes, docs will give a relaxant to help short term. The physiological stuff is irritating, but if it turns emotional, then go back on it and taper more slowly.
617441 tn?1221176206 By all means give them fish oil and maybe it will help in the long run, but please do not allow someone to coerce you into believing that fish oil is better than science. Accupuncture, kinoki foot pads, and intestinal flushes are all a wash and I put fish oil into that group.
Avatar n tn If it were me, I would probably avoid the Salmon oil and use a different kind of fish oil. Carlson had a great one and I can tolerate it well, I have all kinds of allergies, but, this is good for me to take.
Avatar n tn My husband has hep c and cirrhosis, and currently takes 1760mg of fish oil per day at the recommendation of his hepatologist. It was recommended for him because of elevated triglycerides and was deemed safe even though he has low platelets. Of course, always discuss any medications, including supplements, with your doctor.
