Your doctor's advice is surprising to me, also. I'm guessing that s/he is not a diabetes specialist and that's the type of physician who should be guiding your diabetes care. Specialists might be called endocrinologist or diabetologist.
None of us here is a physician, but we're long-time diabetics or care-givers for diabetic children.
You didn't mention if you've been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2, and the treatment options vary for these types.

I also noted the JAMA reminder/caution that food does not cause Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. This study and others looked at the impact of specific foods/timing of introduction in at-risk children.
Please know that Type 2 is a completely different disease than Type 1. Type 1 is autoimmune, and researchers are striving to find out what triggers (or doesn't) trigger the disease. Type 2 has completely different origins.
I see you have the word 'diabetes' crossed. Diabetes is a Greek word meaning large amounts of urine. Both diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus fall into this realm but both are separate mechanisms.

Patients with risk factors for diabetes mellitus (eg, obesity, family history of diabetes) who are starting treatment with atypical antipsychotics should undergo fasting blood glucose testing at the beginning of treatment. Perhaps your A1C levels were at pre-diabetic levels, but your blood glucose levels were higher. It sounds like you've been doing really well, though, but you should talk to your doctor, though, because since it's already been high, you need to keep on top of it.
I went in for a regular checkup, because I have frequent urination and thirst. The doctor checked my sugar levels through urine and then she told the medical assistant to do it with blood. While I was in the room with the medical assistant, she told me the doctor want her to check my blood because I have high glucose levels in my urine. She said I could be pre- diabetic and etc. So when the doctor came in she said your blood is good.
It is a disorder of the nerves which causes numbness, tingling, unusual sensations and sometimes pain, which can be triggered by medications. Diabetes Mellitus can cause neuropathy. Other causes like vitamin deficiencies and alcohol consumption can cause neuropathy.

Sclerosing lymphocytic lobulitis was identified in 69.7% of the subjects with type 1 diabetes and 1.8% of those with autoimmune thyroid disease diagnosed with benign breast disease at surgery. It did not occur in patients with type 2 diabetes with or without insulin treatment or in control subjects. Only retinopathy and peripheral neuropathy were associated with sclerosing lymphocytic lobulitis.

Yes, in time your doctor will likely know for sure which type of diabetes you have. In addition to Type 1 and Type 2, there seems to be a type 1.5 ... tho' there's some thought that 1.5s are just in the early stages of Type 1. We DMers (folks with diabetes mellitis) and our docs often call that a honeymoon phase.
I hope you're feeling better now that your bloodsugar has begun to come down. Things may remain volatile for a while, so try to be patient with yourself.
I am a 38yr old female (American living in Australia) and have just received a probable diagnosis of diabetes and am currently undergoing tests to determine type 1 or type II. I am an active person, slender and have relatively good eating habits and what I've been told "an atypical case" for diabetes. But I have recently begun losing weight unintentionally. I have quite a healthy appetite and I do have a biological family member who has Type II.
I know I am insulin dependent because I cannot take my pump off except for the rare few minutes or so without my sugar sky rocketing. Now would u still call this Type 2 Diabetes or Type 1? Hearing the words Juvenile Diabetes associated with Type 1 throws me off obviously because I was not diagnosed as a juvenile. But also the words Insulin Dependent are associated with the Type 1. So I DO fit into that category.
I have type 1 diabetes, and have had this challenging disease for 30 years. I am believing that I may be having the first signs of some nerve damage and am wondering what doctors/specialists I sure see. Right now I have a family practioner, and have had this same doctor for years....any suggestions on where to go next? I have excellent insurance (not always the case) and want to take care of this before the situation gets worse? Help.
