Avatar n tn Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes stiffness and pain in the joints. Osteoarthritis involves growth of bone spurs and degeneration of cartilage at a joint. It is very common in adults older than 45 and can cause joint pain. Joint pain may also be caused by bursitis (inflammation of the bursae). The bursae are fluid-filled sacs that cushion and pad bony prominences, allowing muscles and tendons to move freely over the bone.
Avatar n tn Similarly if you were prone for arthritis such as osteoarthritis, the period of inactivity could have aggravated the arthritis and hence swollen joints. There are various causes of multiple joint pains like osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic pathology, thyroid problems etc. Please consult an orthopedic specialist regarding this. There are no swollen joints associated with inactivity alone as the cause. However inactivity aggravates an existing joint condition like arthritis.
Avatar f tn Depending on the joint, occasional steroid injections can help. I have osteoarthritis in my hips - too many years as a ballet dancer. :-/ It finally got bad enough last winter that I mentioned it to my pain doc. It worked great and didn't hurt too badly. The only drawback is that relief only lasts a few weeks, so I save the injections for winter when I'm nearly crippled.
Avatar f tn Your mom will need to take 150mg glucosamine for the rest of her life if she has osteoarthritis. It keeps the joints and their connective tissues lubricated, as they dry up as we age. Some people respond quickly, and others feel no effect at all. There are also exercises that help. The main thing is not to let the joints seize up. Keep active.
Avatar m tn Hello, The various possibilities for popping, clicking joints are a cartilage tear or rotator cuff tear that is rubbing with the joint, arthrosis or degeneration of the joint and arthritis esp osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.More harmless is clicking of joints due to relatively lax joint capsules, that allows more than a usual amount of movement. Try stretching your joints if you don’t like cracking them as often and pls do stretches that stretch the ligaments around those joints.

Avatar f tn I take one medication for hbp. Recently the middle joints of my little fingers are very tender, red and tend to be very itchy, if that makes any sense and I've also begun noticing some tiny red nodules at the first joint of my index fingers and little fingers. Some times the nodules are a little more pronouced than other times. I've been trying to self-medicate in terms of taking advil or aleve, but the discomfort is not going away. Any thoughts or similar cases?
Avatar n tn lo Josepha, there's a reasonable chance you have developed arthritis ok....but of course you should confirm with docs. As for meds....the doc may prescribe any number of anti-inflammatories...trial and error for what suits you best really. If you get pain in the area when working it...I suppose the only answer is your body is telling you to give it a rest. If heat relieves the pain then go for it. If the joints are inflamed regularly...well then get anti-inflammatories from doc.
1175033 tn?1492201228 I also have noticed reoccurring pains in alot of my joints along with stiffness and muscle spasms. I also have weird bone growths, on my ankle, heel, toe joints, finger joints, Im too young for all this. My sed rate always comes back normal. My genes were tested for ankylosing spondylitis marker because my dad I guess has that, but Im negative.
Avatar m tn re brittle, filled with sand or grit, or bone dry leaves, it is like the sensation you get from irritable leg only in all of my joints,I am constantly aware of every single joint in my body I can feel it inside all of my joints all of the time, when it is at its worst it feels like my teeth are tingling or vibrating and I can barely concentrate.
Avatar m tn 50years old man not aware of any medical problems complains of pain related to his joints in different places ( fingers, knee, foot ankle) it takes 2 weeks relief by ibuprofen and voltaren emulgel so the question is what is your recommendation about this case ? do you advice of some vitamins especially that he is getting older?
Avatar n tn It can be osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or even reactive arthritis. You would need some tests and X-rays of the joints to diagnose this. The pain in the joints can also be due to overweight, hypothyroidism and diabetes. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult yur orthopedic specialist. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I am scheduled to have orthoscopic knee surgery on my right knee to correct problems I am having related to osteoarthritis. Does this type of surgery prevent osteoarthritis from returning? Is this surgery safe? What is recovery like after surgery? Any information anyone has regarding this topic will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn Knee popping may also occur if the patella is slightly out of alignment, and rubs on the adjacent tissues. Other causes of joint noise is the snapping of tendons or scar tissue over a prominence, or cavitation. Cavitation occurs in synovial joints when a small vacuum forms in the synovial fluid and a rapid release produces a sharp popping or cracking sound. If it persists or other symptoms are present, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation.
Avatar f tn in my joints and spine) and I am only 58. Does osteoarthritis manifest like this? Are there different types of osteoarthritis, or is there a kind that is systemic? What causes osteoarthriti to become diffuse? (I also have stiff sore muscles and feel ill. It is hard for me to walk too long. My muscle symptoms are not diagnosed, and I hope someone can put the pieces together.) Thank you to anyone who can help me.
1176578 tn?1263753089 My question is, could the joint stiffness in the night and mornings be related to osteoarthritis? Or could it be signs of RA? I see my family doc (first check up in 4 years in a couple of weeks) and I'd like to know the right tests to ask for. I am in constant pain despite the pain medication. I have a great job and family, my husband is a tennis teaching pro and my kids and he are fit and slim. I feel I am missing out on so much because my pain and extreme fatigue keeps me sidelined.
Avatar m tn Hello. I'm 49 years old and relatively active. I play golf on a regular basis and try to exercise at least a couple times per week. I have not had any other serious medical problems. Over the last couple months I've developed pain in my feet and hands. It started in my feet with the balls of my feet aching and feeling "weak". Not sure if weak is the right term, but they just didn't feel normal. Pain is not severe, but has not gone away.
653169 tn?1303446369 For some reason, I am one of those people that have to be half dead before abnormalities show in my blood, but it is very obvious by the look of my joints that something has ravished them. All of my research points to RA and both docs I've seen agree, but your so correct about them forgetting to practice the "art" part of medicine. Some of it is because of the insurance companies (they don't want to pay for anything unless some test confirms the Dr.'s diagnoses.
Avatar m tn Arthritis or bursitis can produce pain in the joints. Arthritis is inflammation of the joints. Bursa are sac like structures above and below the joints which helps in the movement of the tendons around the joints. These can get inflamed causing bursitis. If the pain persists consult your doctor for an evaluation. Regards.
657653 tn?1224680706 It is a form of arthritis that causes the gradual breakdown of the cartilage that cushions the joints. Movement then causes the bones to rub against each other, which is painful. Degenerative arthritis is characterized by inflammation, breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of the joints. This can be caused by obesity, bad posture, repeated trauma or injury, and overuse. In some cases, degenerative arthritis may be hereditary.
Avatar f tn We have worked and had children but none of us have the work history that usually contributes to Osteoarthritis. I live in a town full of carpet mills and alot of women have osteoarthritis from working in the mills but me nor the other 3 women have. There really is no reason for us to have OA.
