Partial hysterectomy for fibroids

Common Questions and Answers about Partial hysterectomy for fibroids

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I have had irregular bleeding, cramping and periods for the last several months. It started out as occasional spotting between periods and has progressed to feeling bloated, more frequent bleeding between periods, bleeding after intercourse every time, and cramping after intercourse. My periods are heavy and irregular - one month it will be 12 days in length, the next 2 days in length. I've had 3 OB/GYN's who have suggested a partial hysterectomy (leaving the ovaries).
Avatar n tn Now that she has learned through an ultrasound that there are multiple fibroids, she said that procedure is not an option as it would basically cut off the blood supply to the uterus if they did that for each fibroid. The only option is a partial hestorectormy to remove my utereus. My ovaries are fine. The only reason I need to go ahead and do something is the fibroids are pushing up against my kidney and causing that to inflame and has caused pain in my lower stomach and my side/back.
Avatar n tn I suffer painful fibroids and at the moment receiving Zolodex injections which are only licencened for up to 6mths. I have been offered the option of a transvaginal hysterectomy but I don't know what to do.Apparently, fibroids shrink during the menopause and as I am 49 next birthday, should I put myself through this op. Many thanks.
Avatar f tn There are different types of surgery you can have for the treatment of fibroids. Alot depends on what type they are versus how big and how many. If you are finished having children, you could have a partial hysterectomy, that would remove your uterus, there is also a myomectomy which would remove only the fibroids and there are other treatments that are non-surgical. Some are hormonal meds, there is also a uterine artery ablation.
733497 tn?1231721078 I think it is neccesary for you to go gyno and have the fibroids removed...gynos arent usually willing to give hysterectomys to young women unless they present with cancer.the fibroid removal is a much simpler surgery and will help you a lot.
Avatar f tn I did a LOT of research on partial hysterectomy. The possible issues they were testing me for were fibroids, adenemyosis and polyps. All are correctable by simply removing the uterus, some being correctable by D&C and ablation. After looking into the procedure, I realized that a partial hysterectomy would be ideal, if the test results prove that I have fibroids and/or adenemyosis. I could keep my ovaries & cervix and leave my hormones intact.
Avatar f tn 47 years old and thinking of doing a partial hysterectomy due to large fibroids. my gyn has prescribed depoprovera injections in order to stop the bleeding and improve my iron count leading up to surgery. what are the risks of going this route?
Avatar f tn Do most women have a full hysterectomy or a partial for this problem? I guess it is an individualized decision. However, I am so uneasy about this surgery. Should I be this concerned more about these fibroids growing in me or the surgery itself? Please help!!!!
Avatar f tn I HAVE HAD A PARTIAL HYSTERECTOMY DUE TO FIBROIDS AND CANCER, HOWEVER, I HAVE REMARRIED AND WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE CHILDREN (EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY HAVE THREE FROM A PREVIOUS MARRIAGE). IF YOU ARE IN THIS SITUATION AND FIND AN ANSWER PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I DID HEAR THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON UTERUS TRANSPLANTS, WHAT IS THE WORD ON THIS?
Avatar n tn I'm having a partial hysterectomy in Jan for other reasons than yours but if you've talked to your doctor and surgery at this point won't endanger your health if you decide not to have it or put it off then I wouldn't rush into it if you are apprehensive. I would also consider how long until you may start going through menopause and if you can live with the heavy periods.
Avatar f tn Hello, It is unlikely for fibroids to occur after hysterectomy. If you are having any growth showing up on CT then it may due to benign growth of the colon also. Get a colonoscopy done to rule it out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn I'm having the same problem. I'm spotting almost every month after a partial hysterectomy three years ago. My stomach will get bloated and I have a crampy " getting ready to start" feeling. By the time I get to the dr. it's over and they can't fing anything wrong. i wish someone could explain it.
Avatar n tn I had a partial hysterectomy in April of this year, and now I'm feeling just like I still have fibroids when I'm having sex. It's painful inside the abdominal area. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn Hello, I am 47 yr/old, recently diagnosed with fibroid tumor, ovarian cyst, enlarged uterus with borderline endometrial stripe 12mm. My GYN recommended partial hysterectomy. I have Hypertension, Anemia. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy on 3/12. I will have my consultation 2/25 to decide on the next step. What about endo-biopsy?
Avatar f tn Has anyone had or heard of anyone that has had a partial hysterectomy (cervix, uterus and tubes removed-ovaries left) instead of a tubal? I have heard so many horror stories of heavy periods after a tubal, and mentioned that concern to my OB/GYN. I currently use the Nuvaring, but we are sure we are finished having kids, and I would like to get off hormones (I get the automatic 5lb weight gain). My OB/GYN recommended the partial hysterectomy.
1809377 tn?1316520328 I am seeing my GYN tomorrow to make an apt to have a partial hysterectomy. I have seen a lot of the posts out there, but I would like to know what I can experiece post up... recovery time... discomforts... how long will it take for my body to get back to my new normal self, how long it will take for me to have sex again (it's been over 5 months)!!!
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy (not abdominal) when i was 29. I am now 45 and apparently going through the change. I am on H.R.T patches. for the last couple of weeks i have felt movement...not flutters but it feels like i am being kicked....mostly in the same area so do not think it is wind..lol...is it possible that i could be pregnant or am i going totally insane?
Avatar n tn It could have been the fibroids. I had my hysterectomy because of fibroids also and the bladder problem, incontinence during intercourse, showed up approx. 9 yrs. later. I am curious, where is your hernia?
Avatar n tn I have 2 cysts on an ovary and 2 fibroids. The doctor has talked to me about a myomectomy option vs. hysterectomy for the fibroid removal. I don't know which way to go on this. I'm concerned about the success rate of a myomectomy and don't want to go through a surgical procedure and then end up having to have a hysterectomy in the long run. Naturally, I also don't want to have a hysterectomy and end up with complications and am really afraid of menopause.
Avatar f tn I am 51 and haven't had a period for 5 months. Three years ago I had UAE for fibroids causing severe bleeding. Suddenly, several weeks ago I started having burning pain which sometimes went into my lower back. It was discovered I had a 7 cm fibroid. I have no bleeding at all this time. My GYN wants to do a vaginal hysterectomy but I was wondering if I could have another UAE instead. OR...
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy with removal of uterus only in july2010. For about three weeks now a throbing cramp comes and goes some times radiates to upper thigh. after intercourse I cramp. but will go away with motrin . I have had vag itch going on due to meds frome a uti I bought over the counter cream . still did not take care of it . I went to the ob for the cramping and itch . He said it was yeast and gave diflucan .
Avatar f tn ve had fibroids 4 19 years, had surgery in 09 to get rid of them [partial hysterectomy] aka myomectomy.
Avatar f tn I suppose it was easier for me to make the decision for the partial hysterectomy as I have a child and didnt want to have anymore. This decision may not be so easy for someone who hasn't finished, never mind started having their family and I really feel for you if you fall into these categories as you have a tough decision to make and would advise definitely to get a 2nd and even 3rd opinion if still not happy.
Avatar f tn ) My doctor believes that the fibroids will continue to grow (most likely, but they are growing slowly) and could become cancerous(not usual for fibroids) or necrotic. He says while in for the laparoscopy for the ovarian cyst and ovary, I could have my uterus out and leave the left ovary. But he says if I wait, will later have to have a cut-down instead, which is of course much longer in recovery. I'm seeing my D.O.
Avatar n tn Is Uterine Hysterectomy the only solution to fibroids. Menstral period so heavy, has caused enemia. Ultra sound confirmed fibroids. The largest 3.5 cm. G.P. recomends hysterectomy. My age 46.
Avatar f tn 39 years of age is quite young to have even a partial hysterectomy done, so there has to be some reason for the suggestion. Do you have bad endometriosis? Some other problems? I would definitely find out exactly the reason for the suggestion and get a second opinion from a reproductive endocrinologist.
2041808 tn?1329931768 Thanks for your reply. I am so confused. I have read the most awful things about hysterctomies partial or total. I hope you have success truly. Evrything I read about all of these procedures seems worse than what we are suffering with grrr. I will continue reading and talking to my dr. I think I may just go on living with these horrible periods. I don't want to be a downer for you. Best of luck. Let me know how your surgerey goes.
493331 tn?1209409635 Recently I was told through ultrasound that I have ovarian cyst on both ovaries the one on the left is the size of an orange and the one on the right is a little bit bigger than a quarter. I was also told that I have fibroids. I was wondering what are the chances of me not having a hysterectomy? This will be my second surgery for the cyst. I was never diagnosed with fibroids till now. I'm really scared and I want another child so bad. I'm only 25 and I'm pretty healthy and active.
