Avatar m tn When I went on anti psychotics (at the time lithium, paroxetine, welbutrin) i gained 10 lbs each month, until I went from 145 to 235. It could have been due to my hypothyroidism, but that was under control at that time. I think the culprit was the lithium. Good luck!

Avatar m tn It's not that you can't take aspirin at all. All ssris have a warning about interactions with all NSAIDS, not just aspirin. You just have to be aware of bruising that might indicate excessive bleeding. So you have to be careful. Don't know about food interactions, I wasn't told of any. Lots of weight gain possible, however, so watch the fat and sugar and be careful with diet. I think you're thinking more of the MAO inhibitors, they have lots of food contraditions.
Avatar n tn Sabrina, yes paxil, like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.
Avatar n tn • the Tricyclic antidepressants such as Amitriptyline (Elavil), Imipramine (Tofranil), and Doxepin (Sinequan) • the Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as Tranylcypromine (Parnate), Isocarboxazid (Marplan) and Phenelzine (Nardil) • the Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Paroxetine (Paxil) • the atypical anti-depressants such as Mirtazapine (Remeron) and Trazodone.
Avatar f tn Paxil is known for a lot of weight gain, being almost impossible to quit taking, and for making it hard to try something else once you've been on it. But for many it's the best thing they've ever found. You just never know. Personally, I'd go see a practitioner of integrated medicine or a naturopath, as they tend to be better with hormonal problems than regular docs and see if you can't get back into balance. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I lost all that weight, and am back to what I should be, but know, I will now gain all that weight again. Some anti-depressants do that. I know why I put on the weight - it was because I craved carbohydrates all the time. When I stopped I completely lost my appetite and could hardly eat. I don't know what is worse. One thing I do know is I would rather be overweight and the depression under control, than off medication with terrible depression. It is a difficult one this.
646779 tn?1281996041 How long have you been taking this med and what dose are you on? I took it for several years and did great on it. My panic attacks and anxiety were gone with in a week. Now, I did gain weight on it. That was my only side effect. I would still be taking it if it would'nt have quit working for me. We're all so different. If your having these side effects after being on this med for a couple of weeks then you need to see your Dr.
Avatar m tn Recently, I could barely get out of bed, had no energy, was very uncomfortable and self-concious about weight-gain, and could barely get anything done. When my prescription was recently filled with a generic by the 4th different manufacturer (white oblong, white round, red round, and now green oblong), I vowed to get off the stuff. How can they all be the same?(My health professional recently wanted me to go on even stronger medicine).
Avatar f tn I can only say that for me, I gained 50 pounds over several years on Paroxetene, and stopping it is deadly.
Avatar m tn Research has shown that Paxil causes the most weight gain. Although weight gain will vary based on the individual, some people taking Paxil have reported weight gains of between 20 and 50 pounds.-"-per Google. Now that is an issue by itself, but I have been shown to be pre-diabetic, which really bothers me. My question is, should I have checked behind the doctor? Was it my responsibility to not trust the doctor's advice and prescription?
Avatar f tn I was on this medication for six years and all it did for me was cause me to gain an enormous amount of weight, then prevent me from losing weight. My Shrink, now FORMER Shrink, refused to listen to me nor to my primary physician...he simply thought I ate too much (no one can possibly gain as much weight as I did in a mere two months by just eating).
Avatar m tn I have been on Paroxetine for 10 years on and off and whenever I have a question about any medications that I can safely take I call the pharmacist and they are good about answering my guestions.Good luck!!
Avatar n tn Combining fluoxetine or paroxetine with phenytoin can also lead to increased phenytoin side effects and reduce blood levels of paroxetine. You really need to discuss the potential drug interactions with your own doctor.
Avatar m tn So I have been taking Paroxetine(Paxil) for 4 months now and it changed my life, took away my O.C.D. and my social anxiety. But i had side effects so i started taking Bupropion(wellbutrin) So after 1 days dose which was 1 pill twice a day, I had my O.C.D. back about half as bad and my social axiety came back about half as bad. So i stopped taking the Bupropion and i am still taking the Paroxetine but it's not working as well as it did before.
Avatar f tn t appear to be necessary at all, why start with a drug that is, objectively, from the evidence from its actual usage, so hard to stop taking once you start, that comes with a great likelihood of weight gain, I mean, for some people this is the only drug that works but for most there are safer ones to use. But in this case, if your father had an anxiety problem, usually the first place we're sent is to a therapist, not given a drug. LightSeeker is right on this one.
Avatar f tn I will check my thyroid again, although my hormone results always came back normal. My weight gain was the result of very bad depression/anxiety and antidepressants (paroxetine).
Avatar f tn Has anyone been perscribed Paroxetine for their neuropothy symptoms? I saw my physiatrist last week for the increasing pain I am having related to my syrinx. He advised me to check back in with my NS, and gave me a script for Cymbalta. Apparently, this anti-depressant also works on nerves. I'm definitely not a depressed person - so I had my reservations for Cymbalta, but the pharmacist re-assured me that my dr prescribed it for neuro issues.
1326416 tn?1370927001 After six weeks, symptoms of depression decreased 57% in the group taking hyperforin-rich Hypericum and only 45% in the group taking paroxetine. Patients taking Hypericum were 42% less likely than patients taking paroxetine to experience negative side effects. The researchers concluded that, "In the treatment of moderate to severe major depression, Hypericum extract... is at least as effective as paroxetine and is better tolerated.
Avatar f tn Ive been switched from Paroxetine to Zoloft as am looking to try for a baby and this is supposed to be 'safer'. My doctor has changed me over gradually. I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 5 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I've went to the doctors yesterday because I feel terrible terrible - headaches, feeling incredibly depressed and crazy!
Avatar n tn 2 to 1 month for someone not being introduced with a new drug. Could be shorter for your husband.
Avatar f tn Look up weight gain according to BMI and it will give you a good idea on the amount of weight you should gain according to your body type.
12182312 tn?1427683956 My paroxetine is 40mg, and metoprolol is 25mg. Are they safe to take together. Is one an upper, one a downer. I take Paxil in the morning, metoprolol before bed.
Avatar f tn My wife had BC, she has already had the chemo and surgery and is now on the part of the treatment focused on preventing recurrence (herceptin and tamoxifen). She had been taking paroxetine for the last two years. Now she started to see the psychiatrist at the cancer centre (the one who routinely sees cancer patients) and the dr advised her to change the paroxetine for another antidepressant.
