I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain.
Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.
Increased sweating is a common side effect of Prozac (Fluoxetine is the generic for Prozac so it is the exact same thing). For most patients the sweating settles down after a month or two after start of therapy...but not for all. Some patients that struggle with the sweating issue with take their Prozac at bedtime to try to minimize this side effect, but even that doesn't always work. Keep in mind that there are other anti-anxiety/depression choices out there if you are willing to try.
If you think medication is necessary, Lexapro (a newer version of citalopram) and Prozac are supposedly the easiest to take. Prozac is the easiest to stop taking, but can be stimulating so isn't necessarily the best for anxiety, but if it works, it is, again, probably the safest and is usually where psychiatrists used to start if you got to the ssri class of meds. Lexapro is usually second.

I know i will want to try again in the future can anyone tell me if they have had babies on anti depressants ? what type as mine is an ssri and works perfectly! was their baby healthy also did you need to go for extra scans and check ups.

Just go to your pills and take one, it'll stop. You must wean off your medicine VERY slowly to prevent those electric zaps, so back off on the dose, a small cut every three or four days until you feel normal, then cut again, until you reach zero. But anytime you have ANY problem getting off a drug, get up and go take a pill and you'll make it through any rough patches.

yes i am on paroxetine 2 days and experiencing diarrhea , paroxetine 12.5 and clonazepan 0.25 combined ... i have been on clonazepan for past 4 yrs .. just hope this time medicine works ... and this is the last time i am trusting any psychiatrist !!
) 99% of the time. Have previously tried Prozac at 20mg, 40mg, and 60mg but this did not help at all. Am currently on sertraline 100mg, which helps for anxiety and depression but not PE. Have tried start and stop technique's (edging) for about a year with no improvement.
Myself and my partner do not have relationship problems, but she is not always supportive on the PE front, some of her comments have made the situation much worse

These medications are also used to treat Trichotillomania and OCD and include clomipramine, fluoxetine (prozac), sertraline, paroxetine, fluvoxamine, citalopram, escitalopram, nefazodone and venlafaxine.
These new generation antidepressants - the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors - are really safe. I'm on them myself.
You can also try some behaviour therapy like habit reversal training and with Exposure and Response Prevention which some nail biters find helpful.

Sounds to me like you are choosing meds for the wrong reasons. You wanted to try Pristiq because you saw it being Rx'ed a lot where you work? I'm SURE you can understand how that would not be a good reason. If you were taking an AD for anxiety (the Prozac), Pristiq would have actually not been the best choicem as it can be quite activating. I'm sure you're not having a psychotic break...sounds more like it is affecting your memory and increasing anxiety.

i have tried prozac citalopram paroxetine and am now on mirtazapine. once i went up to the 30mg i have bad anxiety?
Said that it is not as addicting and will help me through the paxil withdrawl. ??? He said give it a month and then stop taking prozac and getting off prozac is much easier because it stays in your system longer. I am soo sick of taking pills. I went there for help and I left with more pills. Whatever..
