My mother who is 79 years old, has severe arthritis and has dealt with anxiety for many years has been prescribed for sometime by her doctor to take 20 mg Paroxetine and 2 mg Alprazolam in the morning, 1 mg Alprazolam at lunch and 2 mg Alprazolam before bedtime. Paroxetine is the generic for Paxil and Alprazolam is the generic for Xanax. Is it normal to be taking Paxil and Xanax at the same time?
I take 40 mg of paroxetine, the generic for Paxil. My anxiety attacks have lessened but am still getting them 2-3 times a week. Way down from 2-3 per day. I have social anxiety as well and manic depression with suicidal tendencies. I was also prescribed .5mg of Xanax, actually the generic for it, and it only helps if I take 2 of them, sometimes I have to take 3. But when I take them, I fall asleep pretty fast and stay asleep for at least 12-15 hours straight. But then I feel great.

Iv been on many different antidepressants and I'm currently on paroxetine and I'm the same - I sweat in day at night esp when exercising or even walking fast. It's annoying but iv been told there's nothing you can do - you can either try a different drug, deal with it or stop (if this side effect is more a bother than your reason for taking it). I feel your frustration.
I've taken both generic paroxetine and generic bupropion (aka Wellbutrin) together at maximum dosages, and had no problems with either. I didn't notice any pain-relief effect, though. I did notice, at times, an overall feeling of emotional numbness, but my doc at the time said that was likely due to the underlying depression, not the drugs.
Paroxetine is in the SSRI class, a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor.
I have been on Paroxetine for a couple of years now due to some family-counseling issues. I was reluctant to go on them at first. But for my family, I thought I'd try it.
It did reduce my anxiety. I slept better, deeper, and longer. A life-long stutterer, it cut my stuttering by 50-75%, and improved how I was viewed at work (I believe), by my calmness, better speech, and ability to focus. I had suffered from significant anxiety my whole life up to that point.
I have been on both Prozac and generic Prozac in the past. I thought it was just a coincidence but the brand name Prozac worked much better than the generic for me. My doctor confirmed this and said she didn't believe the generic form was as effective. Anyone else have any experience with this?
Once that rules out anything organic, then they truly need to help you with some anti-anxiety medication like Paxil (paroxetine is the generic name) or Prozac (fluoxetine is generic name), or Celexa (citalopram is generic name) or even Lexapro (escitalopram is generic name). Those are long acting anti-anxiety or anti0depressant medications. In addition to that, they should also give you a short term supply of some rapid acting anti-anxiety medication like Xanax, or Valium, or Ativan.
t mind my asking what anti-depressant are you taking. I am asking this because I was switched to Paroxetine( generic Paxil ) six weeks prior to this attack that has had a lot of eye and visual symptoms, but I still don't know if it is related to what happened.
Some anti-depressants, as well as other medications can have eye and vision side effects! If you could tell us some more of your history, test, blood work, MRI ect then I know there will be a lot of people who will try to help you!
I have been on Paroxetine for 10 years on and off and whenever I have a question about any medications that I can safely take I call the pharmacist and they are good about answering my guestions.Good luck!!
Combining fluoxetine or paroxetine with phenytoin can also lead to increased phenytoin side effects and reduce blood levels of paroxetine.
You really need to discuss the potential drug interactions with your own doctor.
So I have been taking Paroxetine(Paxil) for 4 months now and it changed my life, took away my O.C.D. and my social anxiety. But i had side effects so i started taking Bupropion(wellbutrin) So after 1 days dose which was 1 pill twice a day, I had my O.C.D. back about half as bad and my social axiety came back about half as bad. So i stopped taking the Bupropion and i am still taking the Paroxetine but it's not working as well as it did before.
I may call my Dr about this generic brand. I did check into Walmart and they do not have the CR in generic. However, I am now feeling emotions I haven't felt in a long time. I cry at sad movies, enjoy going out more, have a little more energy and have kept the somewhat outgoing nature that I developed while taking them. I think I like these feelings!!
Has anyone been perscribed Paroxetine for their neuropothy symptoms? I saw my physiatrist last week for the increasing pain I am having related to my syrinx. He advised me to check back in with my NS, and gave me a script for Cymbalta. Apparently, this anti-depressant also works on nerves. I'm definitely not a depressed person - so I had my reservations for Cymbalta, but the pharmacist re-assured me that my dr prescribed it for neuro issues.
Ive been switched from Paroxetine to Zoloft as am looking to try for a baby and this is supposed to be 'safer'. My doctor has changed me over gradually. I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 5 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I've went to the doctors yesterday because I feel terrible terrible - headaches, feeling incredibly depressed and crazy!

I was on the generic of paxil (paroxetine), 20 mg, for four months. I started weening and have been off for two weeks. I had some of the brain zaps and other slight with drawl symptoms. Nothing too bad. I have weened off the clonazepam .25 mg and have off it for two days. I am an anxiety ridden mess! All day, with few second of relief here or there. It feels like I woke up back in November when this all started.
Is this normal? Will it even out? Am I just not ready to be off meds yet?
My wife had BC, she has already had the chemo and surgery and is now on the part of the treatment focused on preventing recurrence (herceptin and tamoxifen). She had been taking paroxetine for the last two years. Now she started to see the psychiatrist at the cancer centre (the one who routinely sees cancer patients) and the dr advised her to change the paroxetine for another antidepressant.
Hi, I just need a bit of advice. My meds are 30mgs Remeron, 30mgs Paroxetine 150mgs WellbutrinSR and
300mgs Lithium. The Wellbutrin and the Lithium are 3x daily.
My question is how can I get over the severe fatigue I experience one to two hours after taking the morning dose?

I had a severe allergic reaction to Citalapram and was taken off and had to wait for my appointment with the psychiatrist which was a week and a half ago. He perscription for Buspirone and Paroxetine. I didn't start taking the medicine right off the bat because of fear that i was going to have another bad reaction and ended up having another attack last night. I started taking the Buspirone this afternoon and was wondering how i should take it and the Paroxetine.
