paroxetine and xanax

Paroxetine is the generic for Paxil and Alprazolam is the generic for Xanax. Is it normal to be taking Paxil and Xanax at the same time?

ve been suffering from depression and anxiety since childhood. My question is what are the similarities between Paroxetine and Xanax, and what are the differences? Also can anyone tell me if both medications have similar effects on a person; I'm currently on Paxil, but I was wondering if it was anything like Xanax? Thank you for your time.

Hi, I'm 19 weeks pregnant and still taking xanax. I suffer from panic disorder, GAD and some agoraphobia. I've had these for approximately 3-4years, and have been taking xanax for the same amount of time. Initially i was taking a small amount but gradually it increased until i was taking 3mg per day. I was taking 3mg a day for about one year until i found out i was pregnant, i was also taking a fairly low dose of paroxetine.

When I stopped - within 24 hours I was experiencing stronger feelings of panic than I did before taking the Xanax and suffered night sweats and loss of sleep. I went back to 1 x tab a day (.25mg) and the feelings subsided and sleep was easier. Can I have really have a problem ditching Xanax after such a short period and on such a low dosage? (compared to a lot of posts I have read on here).

Yes, because I started on Remeron in April 07 with xanax - and have begun weaning off xanax in October 07. (still taking the mirtazapine/remeron - 30 mg). It's now 4 months later, and I'm on a very low dosage of Xanax and fortunately, the extreme anxiety/trembling that I was suffering from has not returned. Now, I'm trying to discontinue the xanax completely. I wish you good luck with finding the right combination...

I took it before and it stopped working, so went with natural stuff and was having issues with xanax taking effect and doctor told me to stop St Johns Warts and go back on paxil but still can take Vitamin B and D...

Infact I was placed back on the Zoloft and a low dose of Xanax after the Paroxetine made me so ill, and saw stabalization of all anxiety and depression within three weeks back on my meds. I take these medications because I have clinical depression and anxiety disorder and had been dx with this condition 15 years ago. I was already on disability for this years prior to this neurological attack.

Over the last 6 months I have been experiencing a huge amount of financial and job stress, such that my doctor was concerned enough to put me on Paroxetine HCL (Paxil), starting at 25mg and now 30mg. It is the first drug I have taken for treatment of my issues since 1995 when I was on Xanax for 6 months. I started forgetting to take my pill over the last week or two, and over last weekend just gave up on it, because I just don't feel it's doing anything productive.

My doc immediately prescribed me 20mg of Paroxetine and 10mg of Buspirone. He wanted to up my dosage to 25mg of Paroxetine and 15mg of Buspirone. I didn't want this however because I know there are some withdrawal problems with paxil. I'm just worried about taking these two medications together. Thanks.

5mg of alprazolam(xanax)and 5mg norvasc for HBP Recently had a setback with driving and now more attacks. The xanax helps but still nervous about work. It seems as if maybe its time for a change ?

The switch is not abrupt, she first reduced the dose of paroxetine and started with a low dose of the new drug for a while.

If this patient has panic attacks then xanax as prescribed by a physician is certainly warranted. And 1.5 mg is not a huge daily dose. Xanax controls the anxiety and allows the patient to lead a productive life then isn't that better than having he/she worry about everything, thereby increasing the anxiety leading to further deterioration. Additionally, there is a current issue with headache also causing anxiety.

), so at times i have trouble sleeping or concentrating. I have used Ativan, Xanax and Librium in the past for these types of episodes and they worked fine. I am very iffy about anti-depressents. So I guess what my question is, should I even start to take the Prozac? Also does anyone have any advice at all? Anything would be appreciated. P.S. I was almost clean from vicodin's for 6 months but fell off that wagon... ;( Thanks!

Hi i have depresion and i am too sleepy, the psqui. doc put me on paroxetine less than 10mg for now then he said i will incrise the dosage, my question is, will this med make me gain wight???

45 am. My best sleep in weeks. It makes me feel a little hopeful. I am anxious right now, but not like most days where I am at a 9 or 10 from 4 am on. Fingers crossed!

I keep calling my doctor trying to get him to prescribe a different medication but he keeps brushing me off and last time he just gave me xanax and told me to take that when needed. I took a half of one and felt absolutely horrible and made things much worse so I haven't taken them since. What do you think I should do?

I was given Paroxetine for depression/anxiety over a year ago. I didn't take it however. Tried talk therapy for 6 weeks instead. I feel now, however, that I need to go on meds. I was just wondering if someone can tell me what to expect after taking paroxetine. Does it really work? How long does it take it to work? And are there any noticeable changes at all the first few weeks. Before, I did take one pill when I was given the meds.

Combining fluoxetine or paroxetine with phenytoin can also lead to increased phenytoin side effects and reduce blood levels of paroxetine. You really need to discuss the potential drug interactions with your own doctor.

So I have been taking Paroxetine(Paxil) for 4 months now and it changed my life, took away my O.C.D. and my social anxiety. But i had side effects so i started taking Bupropion(wellbutrin) So after 1 days dose which was 1 pill twice a day, I had my O.C.D. back about half as bad and my social axiety came back about half as bad. So i stopped taking the Bupropion and i am still taking the Paroxetine but it's not working as well as it did before.

I dissagreed with him, but he kept insisting that Paxil would be better at controlling both the depression and axiety.So he told me to stop the Zoloft and the xanax that day without a taper and start the paroxetine(generic Paxil) the next day.

ive been on buspar, celexa, paxil, zoloft, etc. then i tried the benzos, xanax and klonopin, finally klonopin was the only one that seemed to work. i just took it when i was feeling the anxiety. i didnt want to have to take something every day. the klonopin made me feel way better but im not sure it's something i can take now while i am still nursing. also, my gyno said he doesn't usually prescribe something like that, he would prefer i went to a psych for something like that.
