I'VE HAD THIS FOR YEARS , IT'S BEEN RECURRING FROM TIME TO TIME, CAUSING ME A LOT OF DISCOMFORT , WHAT IS THE BEST MEDICINE TO TREAT THIS , OR MAYBE MAINTENANCE MEDICINE FOR THIS? . KINDLY EMAIL ME , OR PLEASE ANSWER ME BACK .
Avatar n tn I am still waiting for biopsy results. My doc asked me to try Zantac, Prilosec, Pantoprazole Sod but nothing gave me even the slightest relief. I also tried baking soda, apple cider vinegar, TUMS but they didn't help either. I don't know what to do. I don't know why my doc thinks it is acid reflux. Other than chest tightness and pressure in the head I do not have other typical symptoms of acid reflux.
Avatar f tn Ajcauff, unfortunately at the current time there are few options for the treatment of SOD. If you had and ERCP with manometry done and the readings were high, then the sphincterotomy was probably the best thing that could have been done. Typically, after this, the area is stented to help prevent pancreatitis, but the whole procedure does not guarantee that the condition might not return.
Avatar n tn ve been diagnosed as a type 3 SOD, and an ERCP was done in the past for diagnosis or some form of treatment, why are they suggesting the ERCP? Type 3 is diagnosed as biliary-type pain but normal liver tests and common bile duct diameter so an ERCP would be considered as something that should be avoided.
Avatar f tn I just had a pneumonia almost 2 months ago and i had ulcer last November but already been cured by pantoprazole domperidone. 1264088 tn?1279480822 He is one of the best. He is running trials in the states on SOD treatment and you get free treatment if you sign up to the group. Its called EPISOD. You can google it. He told me he is sure its sod because everything else is ruled out, my enzymes were elevated, I had the typical pain and vomiting and I have bad attacks with narcotics. Narcotics cause these attacks in most everyone with SOD since they raise pressure in the sphincter.
Avatar f tn Please consider finding a doc that specializes in SOD. Most GI docs don't and you won't get the best of care for this condition, which can be difficult to treat. There's a group on yahoo (SOD group) that knows the best docs and the overall treatment protocols that should be used. Check with them. Actually, a HIDA scan can't diagnose SOD. The only test that can be used to come up with a real diagnosis is an ERCP with manometry.
Avatar f tn My aunt was telling me about how her doctor told her about a possible treatment where they use a scope and inject botox in the sphincter. Apparently the guy who received this had like 10 years free from pain.. have any of you heard about this or had it? I'm seriously thinking about it but I need to hear your opinions about it before I even think of looking into this. I've been suffering from SOD since about 2008 so I'm in need for some relief for a bit.

Avatar f tn These do not guarantee showing SOD, but there are two types of SOD that can be indicated by checking these levels. The only true way to DX SOD is via ERCP with manometry which should only be done by top experts in the country. I agree with CalGal....SOD can be the beginning of a long road pain, although some have luck with medical treatment (meds) and surgery.
578470 tn?1272598124 Thanks so much for all your input. I haven't felt very well the last few days and haven't been able to do much of anything. I did, however, manage to find a center that specializes in SOD diagnosis and treatment. I'm going to my primary care doc tomorrow to talk to her and get a referral to the center. I am determined to get a definitive diagnosis before this ends up destroying my gallbladder, pancreas and my liver unnecessarily.
Avatar n tn Since that attack I have been plagued with continuous upper abdomal discomfort, gurgling, wind and pain on both right and left side immediately under the breast. I even have shap chest pain. I wonder if I suffer from SOD and if so does anyone else have these symptoms. They often resemble symptoms of hiatus hernia, indigestion and heartburn.
Avatar m tn The diagnosis of sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD) is frequently a challenge. A group of the leading authorities on functional GI problems was formed to help develop diagnostic criteria for these entities. This is the Rome Foundation ( RomeCriteria.org ).
Avatar n tn I have SOD, and yes...after years of having SOD attacks, your pancreas can suffer and I have met so many people who end up with pancreatitis along with their SOD. Pancreatitis is completely different than pancreatic cancer, my thought is that the docs are not going that route as the symptoms are completely different.
Avatar m tn I know its a hard thing to deal with but you do need to get diagnosed so you can start the appropriate treatment. If you have sod then you could try the meds I mentioned in the first post. They help some people. If CP you want to get on enzymes right away. I will see if I can find any info about drs in seattle.
Avatar f tn ve been having attack symptoms and pain 24/7. The Doctor thinks I have SOD or Sphincter of Oddi Disorder. He says I need a bunch of scans and ERCP, and need to first go to a gastroenterologist, I have no insurance and can't afford it. I was looking for possibly herbal remedies/oils/homeopathy solutions or over the counter medication. Please help. At this point I'm only doing pain treatment so I can work. Any information will help.
Avatar n tn The doctor prescribed me 40mg of pantoprazole to take once a day. I started the treatment and on the third day the chest pain had miraculously gone away. On the seventh day I went to a pulmonoligs to get tested for asthma and they made me use an a nebulizer that contained albuterol, something I may be allergic to. The difficulty breathing came back from using the nebulizer and so did the chest pain. On the ninth day of being on the bland diet, I decided it would be safe to drink matcha.
Avatar f tn hi, i have been getting pain in my back, which the more i read i am thinking it might be SOD. this only happens maybe 1 or twice a week and has been going on for about 3 months. usually 5 minutes or so after i eat i get a pain, which feels like a golf ball is being pushed down the centre of my spine. no matter how much i stretch it out it wont go, i just find myself sitting down and contorting my back in different positions to try and get rid of the pain.
400667 tn?1203744543 I had read a post a while back about SOD and how it mimics Cyclic Vomiting. Can someone please give me some input on what SOD is and in what way it mimics Cyclic or if these two syndromes are in any way related. It would be greatly appreciated. I have a friend that has a son that has been dignosed with cyclic but when I saw the post as first mentioned I read that SOD very well could mimic cyclic. If not SOD is anybody aware of any other syndromes to look for that might mimic cyclic symptoms?
1210142 tn?1266077031 I have read a lot about the interaction between Plavix and PPI’s but he thinks only Omeprazole have more effect on Plavix, not Pantoprazole. Please, let me know what your opinion is and have you heard about any interaction between those two? I don’t need an additional heart attack.
Avatar m tn t suggested, find another doc who understands SOD. SOD can only be diagnosed with manometry. If the pressures are raised it's the only time that a sphincterotomy should be done - and pressures can only be measured via manometry.
Avatar f tn t,the problem now is to find a doc who is familiar with SOD and can help in the diagnosis and treatment. Diagnosis is typically via ERCP WITH manometry. Make sure the manometry component is done if your son needs the test done. The reading from the pressure inside the duct is very important in clarifying what's going on and in figuring out what to do.
