Pantoprazole and side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Pantoprazole and side effects

protonix

Avatar f tn I had an endoscopy two weeks ago and the GI Dr found severe inflammation in my esophagus and stomach and short segment Barrett's. I was prescribed Pantoprazole and in the last few days I have developed bladder pain and urgency. No burning during urination. I know this is not a UTI because I've had several in my life. The only time this kind of pain has happened is when I've been on another med that had this side effect. I'm also so very tired and weak.
Avatar n tn ve been on most of the meds for gerd, from Zantac to Nexium to Lansoprazole to Pantoprazole. In December I started to develope numbness in my left foot and right hand. (Last night I noticed my left anke was swollen.) I had other tests with showed no nerve problems and no diabetes. It was only recently that I realized that these could be side effects from the 'prozole meds I've been taking. I just stopped taking everything but the Zantac.
Avatar f tn i am 38 years old now , i developed gerd in my twenties i have been on ppi for like 10 years and they completely controlled my symptoms all this period i was on pantoprazole 40 mg daily and every time i try to dc for a month or two the gerd settles in and heart burn starts in episodes about 2-4 times daily so i eventually returned to ppi , every while i try to lower the dose to 20 mg for a period till i get the feeling of a slight discomfort so i return to the 40 mg dose again i tried h2
1210142 tn?1266077031 I am quite familiar with all the side effects and everything you mentioned- have done some research too. Tried to stop Plavix and almost got another heart attack- I have 3 stents and the third one is in a "sandwich"- so to make this short, I may have to be on Plavix indefinite. The paradox is that after I started Pantoprazole, my chest pains disapeared 99%.
Avatar n tn Went to doc who put me on pantoprazole, symptoms after 8 days are subsiding but have decided to slowly wean myself off and stick to diet and Zantec which for me has less side effects. I rue the day the Dr. suggested a daily dose of omepazole . Has anyone tried going off these meds all at once and how did you accomplish this without the acid rebound? I am new to this community and this gerd issue as I only suffered from occasional reflux previously.
177337 tn?1310059899 I'm throwing this one out there. I have been taking Protonix for 7 months. Could this possibly be what is increasing my pvc's? Brook do you know of any side effects from this drug relating to heart issues? I can't find any but I'm sure if I look hard enough.............
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to the GERD forum. The meds u r asking about also known as protonix used for acid reflux and GERD.....will have side effects on some individuals. To know or understand what long term use could cause symptoms wise, ask ur pharmacist or dr. Since we all respond to meds differently it is very diff to say what long term use might do to u.....
223372 tn?1240920676 I too suffered from intense heartburn my Midwive put me on Pantoprazole a sub for protonix it works AWESOME,AWESOME,AWESOME with no side effects it is prescrption but Im telling you try it the other OTC **** dont work this is one pill a day and no heartburn whatsoever if you miss a day you still dont get heartburn
Avatar f tn I got severe muscle cramps as side effects from that and went back to the urgent care and they gave me zantac instead. Still the same dosis of 2 /day. It all started end of June 2015. The dr eho prescribed zantac also mentioned it could come from the gallbladder but there would be no test to confirm that now (super weird reading all about it now). In September 2015 I had an egd done and the dr confirmed the gastritis. I had no ulcers and no bacterial infection.
Avatar n tn I am being weaned from pantoprazole with ranitidine. It seems that now that we have reached the pantoprazole every third day stage, I am getting weekly bouts of diarrhea, especially if I drink more than one cup of coffee. Is this a side effect? The diarrhea wakes me at night.

Avatar f tn m confused -- lots of people on these meds still have acid reflux, and common side effects of antidepressants are digestive problems and headaches, so it isn't what I'd choose to fight them. Panic attacks are a different story, and those take time for the medication to work, but again, if that's not what you're having the problem with and the medication is affecting you so adversely, perhaps you should explore alternatives.
1140169 tn?1370185076 About a year ago I complained to my Doc that I was getting heartburn, etc, too often again, and he upped my dose to 2 pantoprazole per day, which barely improved things, hense the scope. I've tried Tecta, which didn't seem to work for me, but I've never tried Prilosec nor Protonix (I don't think).
Avatar m tn I think acid blockers have few side effects and a doctor prescribed so "what can I/we say?" I have not researched the subject you have, but though it worth leaving a note so you know you post is being read. You are in unchartered territory for most of us, you mom at 99, very impressive in itself.
Avatar f tn Got on pantoprazole for the reflux, it’s been working great but in the last week I’ve had this pins and needles sensation in my legs feel nauseous and I can’t seem to shake that somethings wrong with me. I’m in constant fear. I don’t know if the pantoprazole is giving me the tingling feeling because I’m not on anything else?
746512 tn?1388807580 What is the best way to take GERD meds and vitamins with them? I'm on three daily doses of pantoprazole 40mg which I take morning/breakfast, supper and bedtime. I'm also taking calcium, vit D and a multivitamin because I'm having a lot of trouble eating because of complications from jaw surgery (and since I can't take any pain meds). The calcium is suppose to be taken three times a day with a meal but not near any other meds.
Avatar m tn Then I started having stomach pains and I was put on the antacid pantoprazole and a stool softener for constipation. After about a month and a half I was feeling so good I stopped taking the pantoprazole after consulting with my doctor. A week later I was having bad GERD and went back on it. I still don't know what initially caused the bloating, why it ramped up to GERD so quickly off the medication, and how damaged my LES is now.
Avatar m tn Prilosec, Nexium Side Effects: Acid Reflux Medication Heart Attack Class Action Lawsuit Investigation A recent study found that proton pump inhibitor heartburn treatments such as Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid may be linked to an increased risk of heart attack, heart failure or sudden cardiac death.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else suffering the same symptoms as me? What do you do about it? Im very concerned as Im in a lot of pain,it keeps flaring up too. I have pain soon after I eat in a morning. It starts like a pulling in my oesophaghus. It feels like something is stuck there. It hurts a lot and I can't swallow without it hurting. It feels like a pressure there and it also feels inflamed and bloats all the way up from my stomach.
Avatar n tn After being on pantoprazole 2 time per day and domperidone the spasm stopped however the burning continued from by back to my chest. My GI specialist reommended 10 mg of amitriptyline. After 2 days of taking it the burning stopped but I developed the worst upper back and chest pain. This was different from the first pain which was up and down. This new pain was across my upper back and chest.
Avatar n tn Hi, my mom was taking teva-rabeprazole 20mg and now she is out of them can she take pantoprazole 40mg now?
Avatar n tn I'd suggest that most of us who contribute on this chat board have experience with the need of antacids as adults and would be clueless and helpless to have any help to you. I'd suggest you reframe your question to you doctor and also the drug manufacturer, and also ask the question of the pharmacy of the nearest teaching hospital where you live. Best wishes.
1806721 tn?1554333407 Hi...both meds are PPI's and work the same...getting off either needs to be done with the help of ur Dr, u need to step off slowly ot avoid the rebound effect of this med. PPI's stop production of the acids, when u stop taking the meds, it flips the on switch and many times our system makes too much all at once and we feel the same as we did b4....this is y it is very important to slowly step off these meds and know u may have some GERD until ur body adjusts.
