Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis vomiting

pancreatitis

Avatar f tn Hello, I have been sick since Friday. I'm having lots of pain, vomiting, nausea and diarrhea but lately my lipase and amylase levels have been low. The doctor said my pancreas is sluggish and work like it should and this is why my blood levels are normal. Can anyone tell me if exocrine pancreatic insufficiency affects lipase and amylase levels during a pancreatitis flare up? Also has anyone ever had normal blood levels with pancreatitis?
509877 tn?1315361694 They had to give her steroids to stop the vomiting, does this mean she will always have the pancreatitis? Or is this a one time thing? I know not to let her eat anything but her dog food diet but I am still worried... Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn Did the vet perform a CPLI test to see if your dog had pancreatitis? The causes of vomiting and diarrhea can be many things, such ingestion of a foreign body, ingestion of something toxic, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, parasites, organic causes and more.
Avatar n tn Pancreatitis is one of the more difficult diseases to treat. It is also extremely painful. If she isn't able to hold down water, I honestly think she needs to go back in hospital. The way pancreatitis is treated is by allowing that organ to rest through literal starvation. Same treatment holds for human patients too. The dog is given IV hydration and nutrition, nausea and pain control, and then you wait it out. Is she eating anything at all?
Avatar n tn Elevated lipase may be a sign of pancreatitis. One possible cause for pancreatitis is a blockage of your bile ducts (from the small gallstone or inflammation or so). This often can't be seen on x-ray or CT, but more precise investigation, like ERCP is needed. It is done during upper endoscopy - they inject a contrast substance from the duodenum into the bile duct opening, and then make x-ray pictures to see its distribution within the biliary tree.
Avatar m tn Three days later he was back to vomiting and not eating and we were back at the vet- this time she told us it could be pancreatitis or an obstruction. We treated for pancreatitis (fluids/steroids/antibiotic). Again, better for three days, then back to vomiting and not eating. Went back a few days later for more of the same. Doctor says x-rays might show an obstruction- might not- and that would mean surgery- which we can't afford.
Avatar m tn I agree 100% with Ginger, it sounds like an attack of pancreatitis to me. The normal treatment for pancreatitis is one week of hospitalization on NOTHING but IV fluids, not even water to drink, to give the pancreas TOTAL REST. After the week is up, they start slowly introducing very bland food. Any time a dog is fed human food there is the risk of them developing pancreatitis, and even one meal can be enough to cause it.
Avatar m tn m really sorry to hear your dog has pancreas trouble. There can be various underlying causes for pancreatitis and since your dog seemed to respond to antibiotics, it's possible his pancreas is infected. That may be due to a structural problem either within the pancreas itself or further down in the pancreatic duct. If imaging studies have not been done, it's time to take a look to see if there is a tumor or psuedo-cyst (pocket of infection) present.
Avatar n tn Can a person develop chronic pancreatitis after having acute pancreatitis that resulted from having an ERCP? I have developed abdominal pain that radiates to my side and back that is relieved when I lean forward and worsens when I lean back. No nausea or vomiting, no fever. Should I follow up with my doctor? I had the acute pancreatitis around 2004. Thanks for your response.
Avatar n tn With each of these attacks, I would start vomiting and would be vomiting bile. After a few hospitalizations for this, I then developed chronic pancreatitis. These attacks can differ from a full blown attack. I call them my "mini attacks". It starts with a pressure in the epigastric region that goes through to my back. I start to feel very ill and then the pain comes, again, going through to my back.
Avatar n tn What causes vomiting light green bile, stomach and back pain, having no fever? ER doctors don't seem to know. CT scans and x-rays are unremarkable.
Avatar m tn So, I had the classic sx of nausea vomiting post meals RUQ pain, shoulder pain/scapula pain that started March of 09, after a numerous amount of test and 1-2 episode of pancreatitis I was suggested to have my Gallbladder remove. Which was done Sep 09. I continued with my symptoms despite the cholectomy. I was sent to a specialist that performed a an ERCP and manometry and stated that my pressures were high. My muscle was extremly tight so he cut it and placed a temporary stent in my pancrease.
6559665 tn?1382511985 I have a year old Pomeranian and he had gotten into some trash and im guessing he ate something bad and I have no idea what it was but now he's vomiting and just sleeping and I don't know what to do to:'(
Avatar f tn One of his kidney values was very mildly elevated so I wanted to do the ultrasound and he has had vomiting on and off… it seemed to be hairball related, I treated that and it seems to help and sometimes food related. I'm changing their diet to a raw dehydrated diet slowly also to try to help. He has always been very sensitive and has vomited here and there as have a lot of my cats. He is very sensitive to meds and often vomits from them. He is fiv pos and has been very healthy overall.

My doctor says its ibs and he wants me to take anti depressants but im scared they are going to alter my mind..im a mother and wife and I dont want to be a zombie. this has been very disruptive to my life. I am tired all the time I have lost over 60lbs in this 5 months. Im not sure what this medication will be useful for in my situation, what do I do?
Avatar m tn My daughter is 18yr old now. She has pancreatitis in the past but for about 7 times in the last 5 months she is been in an out of the hospital with acute pancreatitis. When pancreatitis occurs she always has a strong pain with elevated Amylase and Lipase levels suggesting a pancreatic dysfunction. Yesterday she woke up vomiting with just a litter abdominal discomfort. Blood work shows no significant levels of amylase or lipase.
Avatar f tn If it is the bile ducts you can have stents put in. Bile duct problems can cause pancreatitis or vice versa. I am a long time sufferer from pancreatitis and sod. If you have problems with backed up bile ducts it could certainly have caused the sepsis you had. IT will push toxins in to the blood stream and make you sick. An ultrasound will be better in finding a blockage in your duct. But the best way is an ercp.
Avatar f tn Usually pancreatitis can only be diagnosed with a combination of clinical signs such as vomiting, abdominal pain and fever along with a positive results for a specific blood test (probably the one your veterinarian had sent in), and confirmation with an abdominal ultrasound. In the meantime, you and your veterinarian should keep an open mind, and always ask the question, "What else can it be?", especially if your dog is not getting better.
Avatar n tn lots of bad tooth ache and teeth chipping in the weeks before paid attacks of vomiting and pain. admitted to hospital with servere pain and vomiting, suspect gallblader. at this time bloods for pancreas ok. two months later high lipase re-admited now on iv but pain still in right side ?? Dr not sure to treat helicobactor or pancreaitits first.
Avatar n tn Im 34 weeks today. I was hospitalized for a week with pancreatitis but have been out and feeling better with no pain for 10 days. However, i have gotten way worse as far as nausea and vomiting. I throw up almost everything i eat thats not toast or clear soup. My doctor believes it to be more pregnancy related than my pancreas. I have only had some morning sickness during the 2nd trimester and none during the first. But now this is quite severe.
20820562 tn?1524877846 A month ago my dog, Chloe, got very sick. She was constipated and vomiting. The vet took blood work that showed she had pancreatitis and kidney disease. Her BUN was 76 and creatinine 5.6. Her pancreatic function numbers were (Am) 2148 and (LP) 2792. She was on IV fluids overnight and her numbers barely changed for her kidneys but her pancreas function numbers were (Am) 441 and (LP)550.
Avatar f tn A 13 week old puppy who is vomiting and off his feed needs to be seen by his vet ASAP. Is he up to date on his vaccinations? Vomiting and going off their feed is one of the first symptoms of distemper or parvo. What was the puppy seen by the vet for on January 2? I'm guessing you meant that it was January 2, 2012 and not 2011 since he's only 13 weeks old? Just need to clarify that.

Avatar f tn I had my gallbladder removed almost 4 years ago. I was a freshman in college at the time, & I had been diagnosed with biliary dyskinesia. Basically my gallbladder wasn’t functioning properly. For almost a year after my surgery, I had nothing but problems. I lost a lot of weight, was having awful diarrhea & vomiting all the time. It seemed to get better. But now I’m having the same problems again.
Avatar f tn I have been having on and off nausea but no vomiting. I had pain in my upper right rib area and sometimes in my back. It went away. They tested me for h pylori and it was negative. Also a ultrasound of the upper abdomen showed nothing, no stones. What can this be?
Avatar m tn My girlfriend's dog just turned 11. He is a yorkie, is bline and is diabetic. Almsot a month ago he got over pancreatitis. Everything was fine until yesterday when now he won't eat and what he does he throws up and today had a little blood in it. Could it be the same thing again so soon?

Avatar n tn It sounds like to me also that it might have been pancreatitis. It is so difficult when we lose a member of our family. Pancreatitis unfortunately can become severe basically overnight, and that might be what happened in your guys case. Again I am very sorry for your loss. God Bless Brenda Hello heartfluttersflyawayplz, A dog can get pancreatitis from infections, obesity, trauma, medications-sulfa drugs, and chemotherapy, following surgery, and metabolic disorders.
