Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis treatment florida

pancreatitis

Avatar n tn My suggestion to you is to stop eating. I know that sounds awful, but the treatment for pancreatitis is for no food for at least 2 - 3 days. This is what they do if you were to be hospitalized. You want to rest your pancreas so it can heal. When you eat it causes it to work causing more stress to the organ. Drink lots of water. The diet once you feel better is a very strict low fat diet, as the pancreas's job is to help digest fat.
Avatar n tn Unlike HIV, successful hepatitis C treatment can result in viral clearance. The main goal of treatment is a sustained virologic response, when HCV remains undetectable six months after completion of therapy. More than 85% of people who have achieved an sustained virologic response remain free of HCV five years after completion of therapy. Secondary goals of treatment include normalization of liver enzymes and improvement in liver inflammation and fibrosis.
Avatar n tn I just wanted to post and let both of you know what's going on - chronic pancreatitis???? I had an appointment with my Gastroenterologist today and guess what - he refered me to Shands in Gainesville. I didn't even mention it!!!!!!!!!!!! Talk about shocked. I expected the pat on the head and the line "learn to live with it". The doctor is leaning towards SOD and not pancreatitis, but I figure once I'm there there take a good look.
Avatar n tn Malabsorption is usually only a problem with chronic pancreatitis, but not acute pancreatitis. Even then, not all chronic patients have this problem. The symptoms of chronic pancreatitis are pasted below. Some people have all the symptoms, some people just a few, each case is different, and that's why it is such a difficult condition to diagnose.
Avatar n tn I have had acute pancreatitis and now have chronic pancreatitis. Often during an attack I don't have a fever, NOR do I have elevated enzymes. 5fan, I advise you to talk to your regular Gastro, because the one that saw you doesn't seem to know that most of us with more advanced CP DO NOT have elevated amylase and lipase levels anymore during an attack. By the way, I also have LOW cholesterol.
Avatar n tn To answer your question from your last post. Yes, the testing for SOD is done during the ERCP W/ menometry. You should know that there are two different ERCP's. The main one is using dye to get an XRay of your bile ducts. The other is with the menometry. This one doesn't use dye only saline. I think it is saline they use. I can't imagine they would use plain water. What they do is slowly inject the saline into the bile duct. They take a reading after to measure the pressure.
Avatar m tn In any case, getting a really bad feeling about this dr practice (which is highly regarded in NE Florida) and considering moving treatment to Mayo Clinic, where I hope people can remember things. The last time I saw my surgeon (for an endoscopy), he appeared utterly clueless about what procedure he was there for, which was quite upsetting.
Avatar m tn I was really confused about how a Walk-in Clinic would ever prescribe that many strong narcotics for 3 years to a patient without any type of diagnosis until I realized what state you were from. When I saw Florida and I realized all of the problems that you are having down there with all of the Dr.'s that helped explain it. I'm afraid that your walk-in clinic may have cared more about your money than in helping you.
Avatar n tn He tried ayurvedic, now is going through homeopathic treatment to dissolve the gallstones. Is non-surgical treatment without removal of gall-bladder an option? What has been your experiences?
Avatar n tn If you are going to have the menometry done you should almost plan on spending a few days in the hospital. The risk for pancreatitis is high with menometry. Pancreatitis is very painful. I did get it, but I can tell you it was worth the pain. Anything to get rid of the pain I had been feeling for a year and a half. Every test I had prior to this came back normal. The Drs started thinking I was making up the pain. The pain was caused from the pressure in the duct.
Avatar f tn My lipase went sky high and I got pancreatitis from an ulcer. Never heard of such a thing. I get gamma gobulin once a month to booste my immune system. You know if they caught this when I was in my thirties I probably would have been better off today. But no it was all in my head. I was depressed they said. I wasn't depressed I was ill and couldn't walk nor dress myself. I have MG too. I hope you find more help than I did. I also have diabetes.
Avatar n tn I do not know if this was done with a mamomotry (sp) I did not suffer any ill effects, i.e. pancreatitis with this test so perhaps I had a plain ERCP done. I am still waiting to hear what the MRCP/MRI/MRA of the abdomen/bile ducts are, taken on Monday. I was also told that there are only a handful of radiologists in this city that know how to read the MRCP. I had these tests done at a very large teaching facility.
Avatar n tn At 19 years old, Two drugs were prescribed to treat the Sphincter of Oddi spasms I was having: Calan SR (which I took daily for 3 years and did not continue to have any more 'attacks'), and also Nitrostat (nitroglycerin under the tongue for if I had an emergency attack). The Calan relaxed the sphincter muscle, preventing any more strictures or spasms.
Avatar n tn 10 days later, I was admitted into the hospital with severe pain that turned out to be acute pancreatitis from retained stones in the common bile duct. While hospitalized, I had an ERCP to remove the stones, and was told "the stones are gone." After going home, I continued to experience chronic pain in the upper right quadrant that was sometimes a mild ache, sometimes a sharp stabbing pain.
Avatar f tn Mark Atkinson, a diabetes expert who directs the Center for Immunology and Transplantation at the University of Florida College of Medicine. "But the environment she's trying to move this forward in is so much like kids in a sandbox, whipping sand around. It's hard to see with so much sand in the air." With many foundations and universities competing for research financing, and with the heated politics of stem cell research, it is no surprise, Dr.
Avatar n tn I ave been tested for aneurysms, gerd, h pyloric, heart trouble, pancreatitis,RH,had thee upper gis, an ultrasound, several lab tests and quit going to the doctor after havig a bill of 10,000 and not a clue of anything. Now I have that bill paid, and have insurance, but do not want a bunch of the same routine tests done. Does anyone know about porphyria? 1652294 tn?1302018874 As the esteemed gentleman from Florida mentioned, you need to get a ‘HCV RNA by PCR’ test to confirm active infection. As a side note, you’ll also need to address the lipid panel. Triglyceride results greater than 500 can get you into trouble, including pancreatitis, I believe.
Avatar m tn amlodipine), another for pain (tramadol) and for occasional pancreatitis and nausea, I have recently been giving her Pepcid AC. Apparently we caught it fairly early, as she is doing fairly well and has even survived a 3 month trip to Florida in an RV. She goes through occasional bouts of not eating for a few days, but then will eat - somewhat selectively - quite normally for a few days.

Avatar n tn One at a local hospital when I was admitted two months post pancreatitis ad gallbladder surgery with what felt like the same pain all over again and another at Shands Hospital in Gaineville, Florida - the nearest specialist to where I live. What I find extremely interesting is that my first test was very, very different from the second test in every way, shape and form. The first test took almost four hours.
Avatar n tn Usually you assume a less serious illness and try treating for that. If treatment doesn't work...then you ask the owner if they're willing to run the full gambit. I would ask your vet specifically what he thought made it necessary to do all this. If he can't justify it...I'd take him to small claims court. If you do this, be sure to get a secondary opinion from another vet (I'd take him off any med's for a week and then take the cat in.
Avatar m tn You would be a lot more sick by now if you had HIV without treatment by now anyway. You don't have it. Did you say you get headaches? I wondering if the nausea is migraine related. Do you have pain on your right side? Is this why the doctor wanted to check for Hepatitis? Or yellowing of the eyes or anything or is he just guessing. The other thing is could there be something in your diet causing a food allergy that would give you nausea?
Avatar f tn I had pulmonary tests confirming diminished lung capacity suggesting asthma, MRI pointing to 3 herniated discs with another bulging with degenerative disease(which probably most people have), EKG's and ultrasounds showing arrhythmia and pvc's and tachycardia, various holter monitors(one for a month) confirming large jumps in rate upon minimal exertion, murmur discovered by stethoscope, visit to two cardiologists then another at University of Michigan prescribing heart ablation (which I cancelle
Avatar n tn I had a gallbladder attack May 17, 2005, and then had my gallbladder removed May 25, 2005. Afterward I had pancreatitis, gastritis, and then H. pylori. I went back to work for a couple weeks, but now I am now on short-term disability because of chronic pain in my high abdomen, under my ribs, especially the right side, that radiates to my back. It is there all the time! Pain killers dull the pain, but it never completely goes away.
Avatar n tn All the physicians and experts that she met told her that it was impossible to be due to the Interferon treatment, but before the treatment, all went well. She is so exhausted that she can't fight no more against medical community in order to admit the origin of her symptoms and to push them to try to find a beginnning of solution. Is there any progress in the comprehension of the cause of these symptoms ?
181575 tn?1250202386 I am reposting articles / summaries on the treatment management of chronic HepB. "cajim" located these articles which are quite informative. I thought about putting them on a seaprate Health Page but didn't think it was appropriate since we didn't write them. Let's make this a sort of "Unofficial Research Thread" or "URT" for this type of information. Let's keep this URT free of comments.
Avatar n tn Is methadone an effective treatment for someone who was addicted to narcotics for about 3 years? Is it normal to be perscribed 30 to 40 pills every 2 weeks to take home? I was under the impression that in order for it to work, that an addict should be in a 12 step program and have counseling? I didn't think it was legal for a family Dr. to prescribe methadone any time they wanted to, that it was to be supervised. How can it be given to an addict without any supervision?
541150 tn?1306037443 I need prayers here. Treatment (antibiotics and prednisone) obviously didn't work. He is only 1 year old. I will keep you all updated as soon as I get back from the vet. I know we do not have much experience dealing with Inflammatory Bowel Disease in cats, but it will make me feel better to know that I have your support.
874521 tn?1424120397 I hope the bloodwork tells the story so the vet can get right on with treatment. When our babies are gone, I know, it feels like a big void...
