Pancreatitis symptoms severe

Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis symptoms severe

Avatar n tn My theory is that partially occluded ducts will cause severe pain and subacute symptoms without causing elevated levels in the bloodstream because the enzymes are not totally blocked. If you have ever had an acute attack of pancreatitis, there may be some residual pancreatic damage that is causing your symptoms. Another possibility is sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. In this condition, the sphincter of Oddi spasms and causes severe pain.
Avatar n tn I have had acute pancreatitis and now have chronic pancreatitis, so maybe I can answer some of your questions. Some symptoms of pancreatitis include a swollen and tender abdomen, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sometimes a fever and rapid pulse. Weight loss is frequent. The nausea, pain and vomiting often follows a meal of some sort, and can be triggered more severely by foods heavy in fats. Often there is pain in the abdomen and between the ribs at the base of the sternum.
Avatar n tn I wanted to know if these are normal symptoms after an acute pancreatitis ?. i would really appreciate any type of helpful comments because I'm worried about my mom and i hate seeing her in pain. Thanks a lot!!! This discussion is related to Unknown stomach pain.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have moderate-severe Chronic Pancreatitis. Believe me, this isn't what you want. Your symtoms do appear to be related to pancreatitis, but you could have a number of issues at stake that have nothing to do with pancreatitis. As for drinking, if you have pancreatitis drinking is a no-no. It causes more harm than good and the pancreas is a organ that cannot rejuvinate itself. Once damaged it is damage for life.
Avatar f tn my dog has had pancreatitis 2 times he is 8 yrs old and he hasnt shown symptoms in 2 yrs. we got a kitten over the weekend and the dog ended up eating the cat food a couple of times. now he has diahrea and i have seen a couple blood drops by the poop. Is there something i can do for him other then take him to the vet. It is the same exact symtoms as last time so i really dont need to pay a couple hunred dollars for them to tell me what i already know.
Avatar n tn This is suppossed to be one of the symptoms of pancreatitis, but I have not idea what that would look like. Mine is floating most of the time. I am also constipated most of the time. I thought diarreha would be more of a symptom for pancreatitis? I'm going back to the dr. next week, but was hoping to get some ideas of what might be going on.
Avatar n tn My 7 year old champion 4-H obedience/Showmanship female schnauzer was recently and unexpectedly diagnosed with pancreatitis. Her Lipase levels reflected 6000. Three days later her levels dropped to 5000, by the 5th day they jumped to almost 8000. After a long talk with the Vet, I elected to bring her home if she was able to hold food down. Despite the high lipase level, the dog was perkier and feeling better, we were risking her survival, but it was chance it or euthanize the dog.
Avatar n tn In November of last year I had an ERCP where they didn't find any stones in the bile duct or anything but ended up with Pancreatitis and hospitalized for 4 days and out of work several weeks. Then the pains subsided and other than having terrible Acid Reflux I didn't appear to have any problems. Then out of the blue last Friday around noon time I started getting terribly nausiated. I thought that I might be coming down with the flu.
Avatar m tn i am a 27 yr old female, with more pancreatitis attacks then i can count in the last year and a half. ive been accused of a frivilious life style which is so far from the truth. ive had every test known for this condition. in the last 2 months i was put on a protien suppliment to replace my emzymes that my pancreas produces. in the first 2 wks i lost 20 lbs, had no appetite, liquid bowel movements, dizziness, fatique, discoloring of the skin, and more symptoms i can even list.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from acute pancreatitis and now chronic pancreatitis all resulting from a botched ERCP. I would highly recommend you search for the best doctor to perform that procedure even if it means traveling to another city/state. Having your gall bladder removed could help alleviate your symptoms especially if stones are present, however you may have problems with the sphincter of oddi which is best evaluated by doing an ERCP. Good luck, seeking multiple opinions can never hurt.
Avatar n tn A 66-year-old man is admitted with complaints of progressively severe constant upper abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting of 48 hours duration. Avatar n tn I posted couple of weeks ago . I went to the Er on 3-11 & was admitted for 4 days for pancreatits with mildly elevated Lipase (28) & a -sudden- severe pain in upper right quadrant(close to breastbone) that went straight thru to the back that was excruciating after eating that night. I also have ongoing pain in my back and a 'shooting & spasiming pain ' thats tolerable for now directly in my left ribs.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with mild pancreatitis over 4 years ago it is on going. I currently still am experiencing slight pain on my right side. I have been seen by a GI doctor and a CT Scan, Ultra sound, MRCP have been performed. No issues have been found, I asked if it could be cancer and was told no tumors or cist we found wehn reviewing the xrays. We then tried to stop my BP meds thinking they could be the cause, but I could not stay off of them long enough to make a determination.
Avatar f tn hi i have been having pain under my mid rib cage for almost all my life around 20 years ago i went to the er for the pain xrays showed my gall bladder was enlarged they admitted me that night and removed it the next morning the doctor said it was badly diseased but i still continued to have the pain my stomach doctor said i have barretts esphogus and did a nissen wrap to avoid cancer it failed and i had to have another that also failed so the third surgery was a bad one they had to remove half m
Avatar m tn I'm not a big drinker, and in fact have had no alcohol (or any other vice) for probably 5 months in effort to lose weight. The symptoms are making me think chronic pancreatitis based on what I have read though I have had no symptoms like this prior to the initial event. Over the course of a few months, the symptoms do not seem to be worsening, which is good, but also not getting better.
Avatar n tn Dear Kerrie, Pamcreatitis canbe one of the complications of lupus- either a direct result of the vasculitis or an adverse effect of the medications that you take, It is always necessary to exclude gallstone-induced pancreatitis because stones can cause a more severe pancreatitis as well as cholangitis (inflammation of the bile duct). Pnacreatiti susually presents with sharp painin th ecenter of the abomen near the ribs. The pain may go straiught through to the back.
436191 tn?1256649906 Interview a number of them and see how many of their patients have developed post ERCP pancreatitis. When done in good hands, your risk of post-ERCP pancreatitis is very, very small. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hello, I read your post and feel so sorry for your son's pain, the one item I noticed, was the fact you said he tested positive for Lyme disease, this disease is diblitating in more ways then just the duration of the disease itself, it seems it can cause chronic pain and nerve damage after the disease itself has gone away.
Avatar n tn A portion of her intestine was re-routed and attached to the psuedocyst to drain. She continued with severe pancreatitis and a month and a half later she uderwent another surgical procedure to open the pancreatic ducts to allow the fluid to flow. She had an amazing recovery and was eating and out of the hospital two weeks later. Now, one year later she is having another bout of pancreatitis and we are so scared.
Avatar f tn I have the same symptoms but I havent been diagnosed with pancreatitis. My uncle and aunt both told me at different times to drink cabbage juice and or aloe juice.... Now all I've done is cut the cabbage in quarters and put it in the juicer with an apple and carrot to sweeten it up. Unless it's in my mind, it seems to be helping... As for the aloe juice, I usually get it from my local grocery store, it even comes in mango flavor and they're both pretty tasty.
Avatar f tn though this time the pain and symptoms are more severe and lasting lipase levels after bloodwork were at 276 which was above range but according to the dr not severe though it feels more severe this time. I do not have med insurance until the end of the month so the attending did the ritual of patting me on the behind and wishing the best of luck.
Avatar f tn Severe bruising on my abdomin started about a year ago that go from dark color when symptoms are severe and lighter when symptoms are less severe. Avatar m tn I had severe case of acute pancreatitis this past spring. (Docs have no idea what caused it.) My digestion has changed in a strange way. If I get too hungry or wait too long between meals, sometimes my epigastric center will hurt. It stops immediately if I eat (not drink). Anything. I'm assuming this is some sort of GERD. Never, ever had any kind of GERD issues or digestives. before. Of note, I do have a "low functioning" gallbladder. Is there a link between the pancreatitis and GERD?
Avatar n tn If you are having pain and it is possibly from a pancreatic attack, those levels could still be elevated. I have severe chronic pancreatitis. I made it to the ER many times before being diagnosed at a Univercity. The ER kept calling my doctor telling him I was either passing stones or that I was in the middle of a pancreatic attack. My doctor wouldn't believe that because I didn't fit the profile. I am not underweight, I do not drink, I no longer had my gallbladder.
Avatar n tn Feel free to post again if you have any more questions. What are the symptoms of chronic pancreatitis? The symptoms are very variable. Pain occurs in most patients at some stage of the disease. This may vary in intensity from mild to severe. It may last for hours or sometimes days at a time and may require strong painkillers to control it. It often radiates through to the back and can sometimes be relieved by crouching forward.
Avatar n tn My father died at the age of thirty from severe pancretitis in 1966, I was told after being in terrible pain he vomited up green and then brought to the hospital. They performed exploratory surgery and 11 hrs later he was dead. I know this was 1966 and that the technology is exponentionally better now but can drinking create this type of illness? I was told he did drink heavily . As his offspring can I be at risk for this disease(being hereditary)?
902019 tn?1249865014 Usually have done well with prednisone for the various flare-ups but with AIP, still recurring symptoms and the elevated IgG4 periodically. Next step may be Imuran. Is there anyone out there who has had good results with Imuran for autoimmune pancreatitis?
Avatar f tn In January, I was told I had a cyst on my pancreas as well. This past week, my pancreatitis symptoms came on very quickly, normally it takes about a week before I go to the hospital. This time, I went because I had lower abdominal pain that was severe. The radiologist said I do not have a cyst but fluid in my abdomen. The Dr. feels it's probably because of my pancreas, my enzymes were 750 and 550 (not my worst by far). I'm home again, but still in a great deal of pain from the fluid.
