Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis symptoms kids

Avatar f tn My chocolate lab "Skip" is about 10 years old and developed pancreatitis for the first time. We took him to the doctor he never vomited or diahrea until the day after he got to the vets office. His amalyse was high like 8000 and his glucose and white blood count low but we got an ultrasound to make sure not cancer. He started to show improvements with the IV and antibiotic. Now a week later he is starting to decline and the vet has tried everything.
Avatar n tn This is suppossed to be one of the symptoms of pancreatitis, but I have not idea what that would look like. Mine is floating most of the time. I am also constipated most of the time. I thought diarreha would be more of a symptom for pancreatitis? I'm going back to the dr. next week, but was hoping to get some ideas of what might be going on.
Avatar n tn A portion of her intestine was re-routed and attached to the psuedocyst to drain. She continued with severe pancreatitis and a month and a half later she uderwent another surgical procedure to open the pancreatic ducts to allow the fluid to flow. She had an amazing recovery and was eating and out of the hospital two weeks later. Now, one year later she is having another bout of pancreatitis and we are so scared.
Avatar m tn I have had pancreatitis since December 2006 and have had pain pretty much every day since. I also have Pancreas Divisum and a stricture in the main duct ( an MRI at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St,Louis has shown the the duct is completely closed off) that was caused from a 9cm pseudocyst. I take Norco (hydrocodone) 10/325mg for pain.
10821430 tn?1439584483 5~ all other levels were within normal ranges. Vet said since he is a mid-age Yorkie he has PLE (although he has had no other stated symptoms)this is his first time with this and none of his parents or siblings ( I have 5 here) had any symptoms~ his dam is now 15-1/2 yrs~sire is 14-1/2 yrs...after reading he sounds like he had a accute inflammation of the pancreatitis..he is taking 1-50mg.Metronidazole per day/ 1-Prednisolone 5mg.twice a day also on 1.
1453931 tn?1285188953 the thing about this with me that You have to understand is my age, doctors dont believe that kids my age can even get pancreatitis, let alone it be chronic, so that in itself has been a hurdle for me. The GI that I go to now has worked with many children who have had chronic pancreantitis and says I match this disease perfectly, and it is very common for other GIs not to recognize it. So about the auto immune thing, we have tested for that and it was negative.
902019 tn?1249865014 Usually have done well with prednisone for the various flare-ups but with AIP, still recurring symptoms and the elevated IgG4 periodically. Next step may be Imuran. Is there anyone out there who has had good results with Imuran for autoimmune pancreatitis?
Avatar n tn My husband and I told him our concerns about the possibility of my having pancreatitis, as I had the exact same symptoms. My doctor quickly dismissed it and sent me home with phenergan saying I more than likely had a virus and it would pass. After vomiting 14 days straight, I was back at my doctor's office... again, phenergan and go home.
Avatar n tn Hi...I am 50 female and was very active til few years ago. Had ERS visits for RUQ pain-found a doc who finally ordered a Hidascan - gallbladder barely functioning so it came out 2/03 - pathology showed quote "years of chronic inflammation and precancerous cell mutation." helped a lot but went on to have bladder dialation 3/03 (IC) heart cath (chest/abdominal pain) 4/03 OK, total abdominal hysterectomy (massive fibroids) 5/03, rectosele/bowel repair 12/03.
Avatar n tn a veteran, serving proudly in the US Air Force in Saudi Arabia. He is a father of three great kids but can't work due to this acute and chronic problem that has no answer and no treatment. He thinks that it could possibly be a collapsed vein or artery but whenever he has an episode and asks to get the MRI during his most painful time, they never do it and always treat him with tons of narcotics, leveling out his pain and then sending him home.
Avatar n tn aI'm posting this under general gastroenterology instead of Pancreatitis because I don't want something to get missed because of a myopic approach. In 1994, when I was 34 yrs old, I was diagnosed at Duke University Med. with pancreatitis. Pancreatitic and liver enzymes were all above 3000's. Since then I have fought chronic pancreatitis on an almost daily basis. It was considered unknown causes. I don't smoke or drink alcohol or take illicit drugs.
719009 tn?1230319097 I belong to a Yahoo! group which deals with Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction, Pancreatitis and Undiagnosed Symptoms, among other things. If you want to let me know where you live (city/state only, please), I can ask the forum if they could recommend a doctor in your area. Here are a couple of things that I've found helpful (and I post them frequently): Research! Read old posts in this forum.
Avatar n tn Does any one know about this stuff, after reading it sounds like I have a infection. I don't know, but I do know I am not feeling good at all. I have 6 kids and a husband, so you could imagine my life, and normally I have always been healthy. My dad had Gallstones though. If any one has any experience with this I would love some imput ???
Avatar n tn I'm having withdrawal symptoms I didn't expect. Light headedness, the runs, blood pressure going up, and general fatigue. Lots of fatigue. And some irritability. I am hoping that these symptoms begin to decrease soon. Well, they have gotten better than it was in the first 2 days. I am still wondering how long I can expect to have these side effects of withdrawal?
Avatar n tn I've researched as much as I can so am wondering if anyone has any ideas of what could cause these symptoms other than ovarian cancer and gallstones (my symptoms don't come on after eating-they are present all the time). I had thought gallstones at first. Now I'm concerned that it might be ovarian cancer and I cannot get the VA to assist me with this issue. I cannot afford private medical currently. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Avatar n tn I can be tired after 12 hours sleep! Can I be suffering symptoms from my thallassemia. Does any one else feel the same way that I do? This is a little bit hard for me, but I don't want to complain.
Avatar n tn I was only out of work for 2 weeks and during that time was somewhat out and about. Symptoms of a new illness presented in March, starting with a canker sore, and progressing to flu like symptoms. I noticed greenish/brown mucus and tooth pain and went to doctor for an anti-biotic (I think Bactrim). I took the antibiotic which seemed to clear up what I thought was a sinus infection but I still wasn't feeling better and my glands were very swollen (they still are too a degree).
Avatar m tn In 2007 I became very anemic and was seeing a hematologist. I had my 2 kids and done so they diagnosed me with mehoriga (not spelled right but it's heavy menstrual bleeding). I had NovaSure performed which was very easy and within a couple months was back to normal. The anemia was so bad I was passing out in public places. Also very nice as I haven't had a cycle since then. In 2009 I started to drink VERY excessively. I drank wine but 6-8 bottles a day.
Avatar n tn Hi - You might want to ask your family doctor if he can do some blood work to rule out Pancreatitis. I had most of the same symptoms you had. Had an ERCP with sphincterotomy done on the 14th of Nov. Ended up with Pancreatitis. The nurse who discharged me from the hospital told me that I could have had underlying pancreatitis since before my gallbladder was removed.
Avatar n tn You may recall I wrote yesterday that I was seeing a specialist about my chronic pancreatitis today and I joked that I hoped he didn't recommend surgery cause I didn't want anymore. Well....seems the poor old pancreas is really in a bad way and he is referring me to a surgeon!!!!!Aghhh! I told him I would only have surgery as a last resort and that I needed to get through this "woman stuff" first. Having part of the pancreas removed is a huge surgery and one I really don't want to do.
Avatar m tn Can a bulky pancreas occur without pancreatitis or are the two always seen together? Does pancreatitis always cause a bulky pancreas? Is the CT a definitive tool to rule out pancreatitis and or ca of pancreas? Should I be suspicious of an alternative and possible problematic condition that is not immediately obvious? How common is a bulky pancreas in people my age? Do bulky pancreas' resolve over time in most people or are they always an indicator of cancer or pancreatitis.
82861 tn?1333457511 He can count on having several cases of pancreatitis coming in along with the usual overindulgence GI symptoms. Pancreatitis is expensive to treat because it's usually done in-patient and the condition is fatal more often than not. Much as dogs love human food, it's better to be safe than sorry and keep them on their usual diet. Educate your guests that human food is off the menu for your dogs no matter how much they beg.
Avatar n tn You need to take her to a vet immediately. No one here can tell you what is wrong.
1348686 tn?1310657843 I think if I didn't have the weight loss or the itching I wouldn't be so freaked but neither of those are symptoms of pancreatitis but they are of pancreatic cancer!!! I have 4 kids and I am so scared. Alot of what I read said that pancreatic cancer isn't usually diagnosed until it is in later stages which for the most part are not curable!!! I just keep crying because I am so sick over this whole thing.....
Avatar m tn Has he been checked for cystic fibrosis, celiac, lactose intolerance, or chronic pancreatitis? My four year old has similar symptoms. He had an EGD, colonoscopy, pancreatic stimulus test, sweat test, cystic fibrosis genetic screening, and stool samples to check fecal fat levels. My son's fecal fat levels were high. I am pretty sure that my son does not have cystic fibrosis because even though I am a carrier of the most common mutation, my husband's screen came back negative.
251222 tn?1270939717 I had no history of diabetes or family history. I went into a Dka and delivered prematurely. I had pancreatitis and gall bladder disease. For the last four years they have been trying to exactly pinpoint why I was having these (blood sugar is good now, for a long time, cholesterol good, no smoking, ect.) My latest Mri reads - There is a subtle area of bright irregularity involving the deep white matter of the periventricular region in the right parietal lobe.
Avatar n tn The ER doctor started throwing out words like cancer, tumors, and multiple sclerosis. I left the ER with some Vicodin feeling like I won't be around to see my kids grow up. Today, arm feels normal again, still upper back pain mostly right side with a bit of neck pain on the left side. Hot bath or shower helps the pain until i get out. Feeling a tad fuzzy in my head but my anxiety is through the roof so that can be adding to my symptoms I assume. I have an appt with a dr in 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn I also forgot to mention that six months after that I came down with pancreatitis, had my gall bladder removed with no signs of what caused the pancreatitis. I also ended up with a total thyroidectomy one year after this nightmare started. Why?? My body seems to be going haywire, and it's out of control. I cannot work, sometimes cannot drive. One dr. even put me on Seroquel which made me hallucinate!! They thought I was just crazy.
Avatar f tn You can get blood tests for lipase and amylase to see if they are elevated. I have chronic pancreatitis and experience some of the same symptoms you describe. Pain is usually in the upper mid to left side and can bore right through to the back. Sometimes the biliary ducts get involved too and pain shows up up the right. But usually is is right below the sternum just barely to the left of center and mine concentrates even more in the back.
Avatar n tn your welcome,,i got brought to these forums for 2 reasons,, 1..i have a good friend that is dieing from pancreatitis, and he has two little kids and i wanted to better understand his issue. 2...i too have some issues, and was actualy worried i had developed pancreatits from drinking (im a bit of a weekend warrior) but i have had literaly dozens of tests for everything from pancreatitis to diabetes for my weard symptoms i get every once in awhile.
