Avatar f tn My mom has severe emphysema, and has been on continuous O2 for 2 years, delivered through nasal cannula at 3L. She is s/p CVA, CHF, and mild MI. She also has chronic pancreatitis (s/p alcoholism)and HTN. She still smokes about a pack of cigarettes per/day. When on O2 her sats can be as high as 98%. When off of O2, she can go into the 70s. She is constantly using "pursed lip breathing", has a chronic, productive cough, and a barreled chest.

Avatar f tn I have been doing research online regarding Autoimmune Pancreatitis. I am noticing no case studies done in my sons age group, treatment is corticosteroids/steroid saving therapies, over a prolonged period of time. In all the research i have been reading there is no data regarding long term prognosis , or quality of life in persons with this disorder. Another concern of mine is if he has to go on a steroid long term, what about schooling?

Avatar n tn Hi Thanks for the info.
Avatar f tn We rushed him to the ER where they diagnosed him with food bloat. Within 2 days he developed pancreatitis and started to show significant signs of improvement (more energy, more appetite, drinking water, no more swelling, not tender, etc). They allowed us to treat him at home as long as he was eating and drinking and getting better every day, which he had been. We brought him back to the vet twice for extra fluids.
701334 tn?1262857103 male, non smoker, stopped drinking(weeked warrior, heavy at times, but stopped) i have a buddy with pancreatitis, and im scared this could be that too,but i look at him,and compare myself to him,and im NOWHERE near as bad as he is,,,,but what could be causing this pain in center into my back?
902019 tn?1249865014 I was diagnosed 2 years ago with AIP, have a 25 year history of autoimmune disorders (eosinophilic vasculitis, mild Sjogren's). Usually have done well with prednisone for the various flare-ups but with AIP, still recurring symptoms and the elevated IgG4 periodically. Next step may be Imuran. Is there anyone out there who has had good results with Imuran for autoimmune pancreatitis?
Avatar m tn When I asked my prognosis, I was told I would either live or die. Acute Pancreatitis is very dangerous. Many people die from this every year. Unfortunately, the pancreas is such a vital organ and if it stops working then everything else does too. Are they going to autopsy him? If so, that will give them some more answers! Currently, I have chronic pancreatits and I'm changing my eating habits. It looks like the gallstone damaged my pancreas. I'm so sorry. You are in my prayers!!!
Avatar f tn Both kidneys were significantly reduced in size, evidence of pancreatitis, and a thickening of the stomach and esophagus walls that may be due to cancer. We decided that it was time to go, and after hugs and kisses and tears, we held her close while the sedatives took effect. We did not want to stay for the final stage, came home, and packed away most of her toys and related stuff. It is hard to believe that just one week ago she was running and playing. We are still numb.
Avatar n tn Does SOD always result in pancreatitis? How does it lead to pancreatitis in the first place? Is SOD curable? Is it progressive? My GI doctor thinks that I have a SO stenosis. I am so fearful that I'm going to experience this pain indefinately, and moreso, that I will develop pancreatitis and die. I feel too young to be combating something of this nature. What is the prognosis for SOD, and how can I ensure that I am receiving the most appropriate and proactive care? Can you hear the fear? Help!
Avatar f tn After two days i was told last night her kidney is at 7, i cant remember what her BUN was or any other number because at that point i was told she now has pancreatitis and her liver is going bad as well. They are releasing her today with me and told me to take her home, make her comfortable at home and she can either pass on her own or i can bring her in after a few days to be put down. I am having a hard time with this whole thing and felt it came on quickly.
793908 tn?1294708709 My 10 yr old mini Poodle Julie was now diagnosed with a heart murmur when she went to ER Vet again.. for another Pancreatitis attack..which is better now. My Vet told me that the Trilostane (22.5 mg) is NOT working for her Cushings disease. Yet, 2 months ago her numbers came way down to normal. He now wants her on LYSODREN. I am scared to death of that drug. I read too much negative reports about it. Thats why I put her on Trilostane.
Avatar n tn My 10 year old has had two attacks of acute pancreatitis. These seem to come on very suddenly and be unrelated to any condition such as diet or trauma or drinking alcohol, obviously. There seems to be no treatment except morphine for pain and intravenous fluids. There seems to be no literature on childhood pancreatitis. Can you give me any information about the cause, prognosis and any preventative steps we could take.

Avatar n tn There seems to be no literature on childhood pancreatitis. Can you give me any information about the cause, prognosis and any preventative steps we could take.I submitted this question to the Gastroenterology Forum and it referred me to this section. Dear Celia : There are many causes of pancreatitis in childhood , viral etiology including mumps , infectious mononucleosis , influenza A, german measles , and Coxsackie B virus .
1337091 tn?1275912473 His Amalayse and lipase enzymes came back high, suggestive of pancreatitis. He was hospitalized there for supportive care of iv fluids, antibiotics, pepsid ac, no food or water. His x-ray showed nothing clear. 2 days in the hospital, no improvement. My vet suggested I take him to the ER at another hospital for an ultrasound of his abdomen. This morning when i went to take him, he couldn't walk and kept falling over and crying.

Avatar n tn They have tentatively identified it as Acute Pancreatitis. He lives in India. Do U thing this diagnosis is accurate? What is the long term prognosis? Thank you very much.
Avatar m tn This can also cause significant complications such as acute cholecystitis, pancreatitis, cholangitis, etc, in which the prognosis is not good. So, surgery is necessary and discuss this with your doctor. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Complications are ascites, cyst or fluid buildup in pancreas, low B.P etc.Haemorrhagic pancreatitis, necrotizing pancreatitis and involvement of liver, heart and kidney carries poor prognosis. Some amount of free fluid can be norm al around the uterus. Any infection or inflammation can cause it. Discuss your concerns with the treating doctor. Write us again. Best luck!
Avatar f tn I've found some info that implies a link between Pancreatitis and Pleurisy, but am wondering how they are related? He does take prevacid and ursodiol for GERD, and is on TOBI, Cipro (for pseudamonas) and the usual Pulmozyme, enzymes, etc, etc, etc. How are these related? How can we prevent pleurisy? Will it reappear later as we fight CF? Will having had it affect his long term prognosis?
Avatar n tn everytime I had an attack of pancreatitis I would end up down the A+E dept, amalese levels high etc, then I had a cat scan done and they found a cyst, normally they resolve on thier own but mine did not, I,m pretty sure they would have found that as it definitely would show up on a ct scan, your right that when your having a attack of pancreatitis your levels go through the roof, can I ask if your dr has given you a prognosis?
Avatar m tn My father was admitted to the ER on friday with an acute pancreatitis, it was all well until further tests revealed a mass in his stomach or pancreas. After sleepless nights we finally got the MRI results back, he has 7 apparent tumors, one even being 17 cm long, also in liver and kidney. The first doctor gave us a grim prognosis, practically assuring he had days to live. A family friend who had a similar situation said "thats what metastasis looks like, it happened to my father".
Avatar f tn How Is Pancreatitis Treated? Treatment for acute pancreatitis People with acute pancreatitis are treated with IV fluids and pain medications in the hospital. In up to 25% of patients, the pancreatitis can be severe and patients may need to be admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). In the ICU, the patient is closely watched because pancreatitis can damage the heart, lungs, or kidneys. Some cases of severe pancreatitis can result in death of pancreatic tissue.
Avatar f tn You could possibly have sphincter of oddi dysfunction or pancreatitis . Both of these can come on after GB removal. It also could be something completely different like a stone stuck in your duct but more testing is needed to find out. SOD is typically pain on the right side and back and pancreatitis can be on the right or left and back. You can google john hopkins sphincter of oddi for more info or chronic pancreatitis to see if this matches your symptoms and start from there.
254215 tn?1195096984 Posting again, and I apologize! I had earlier posts about my dog having pancreatitis. Well, she is much better, but the vet noticed jaundice in her eyes today. He did blood tests and the liver enzymes were so high the machine wouldn't register them. She doesn't seem to have a bacterial infection he said. So here's my new question, is liver failure basically a death senetence? She is acting so much better, almost normal, but not quite. He hasn't specified a cause or anything.
