I had Gallbladder removed due to stones 3 months ago. I have pain up under my ribs all the time now. I think is getting worse not better. I also have continous pain in my right side of my back!
I also get the odd bout of diarrhoea and stomach cramps.
The only thing that has help with the pain in my stomach is antacid but this only a short term fix.
The other thing is plenty of water to drink! I too have a low fat diet, I don't know if it helping though.

I have a sharp burning pain just below my left rib, I can feel a burning sensation through to my back, it is a constant pain. Went to doctor he gave me medicine for a cough I had but the pain continues. This is 2 plus weeks and the pain has not gotten any better. I take pain reliever 5 to 6 times a day that helps a little. It feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife. Can you give me any information that might help?
ve been to your doctor which their guidance is always important. Upper right quadrant pain is basically under the ribs and we do have a lot of organs in that area such as the right kidney, gallbladder and pancreas. I have been dealing with IBS for 7 years and in the last 4 years I have been experience off and on occurances of pain in my stomach just underneath where my ribs meet and a little to the right... anyway, the pain is also in my ribs on my back, in between my shoulder blades, and in my chest on the right side. The pain comes and goes but seems to come stronger each time. Recently, the pain does get worse when I eat and when I lay on my back in bed.
CT chest may be needed.Chronic pancreatitis and Functional abdominal pain syndrome (FAPS) may also cause this kind of pain.
Lastly,an important cause of such pain along with blood in stools is found in inflammatory bowel disease(Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis).
It would be better to get CT abdomen done which can clear cut confirm a diagnosis from the above possibilities.Pls consult a gastroenterologist and get CT abdomen done.

What makes me now wonder about chronic pancreatitis is that in the weeks following the disappearance of the rash the back pain has been joined by a pain in the pit of my gut or just below the rib cage at the upper stomach after eating a bigger meal or at night. Again, it is not debilitating but usually takes an hour or so to subside. I'm not a big drinker, and in fact have had no alcohol (or any other vice) for probably 5 months in effort to lose weight.
I have had terrible pain in my front right & left ribs & in my sides that wraps about midways in my back somethime under both shoulderblades on both sides for the last 2 years after eating with weight loss that has leveled off some. I have had one mild elevation of Amylase around 135 at the beggining of 2006. I had high triglycerides which are now normal.I have had continual elevations of Lipase around 320 throughout the last 2 years.
Then 2 wks later pain in the middle of my stomach started I thought I had pancreatitis again but my lipase count was normal. The stomach pain went on for months. I had an ultasound/normal, CT scan/normal, EGD they found a little inflamation/reddness in my stomach/did a biopsy/normal but I was told I had a small hiatal henia (probably from the birth of my son) and treated me for acid reflux.
Usually this presents as pain on the right side under ribs and in upper center abdomen. Unfortunately this pain also comes with CP. Let us know what testing is done. The light oily BMS are the result of your food not being digested. Enzymes can help that if it is CP. In the mean time stick to a low fat diet and no drinking at all.
After my gallbladder was removed I developed acute pancreatitis, now almost 2 yrs later I have chronic pancreatitis and insulin dependant as my pancreas has stopped working, but it sure hurts. Blood/lab tests will show lipase and amylase. CT scan would help diagnos other problems.
If the pain is on the outside, it can be costochondritis, which causes pain and tenderness at points where your ribs attach to your breastbone. The inflammation around the joint area gives sharp pain on taking a breath. This can also cause tenderness on pressing the area which pains. An orthopedic doctor can diagnose this for you. Generally there is no cause. However it can be due to infection, blow, injury, or fibromyalgia. It usually goes away on its own.
ve been having. The pain seems to be behind my lower right ribs. The pain however only becomes present when I stretch out that side of my body or arch my back. The pain is a quick sharp moderate pain that goes away immediately when I retract from the uncomfortable position. If i push in the area on the ribs where the pains comes from their isn't any pain. Pain at the right ribs and right shoulder is usually due to gall stones, duodenal ulcer and liver infection. Pain at the left ribs and leftt shoulder is usually a referred pain from abdomen like stomach ulcers, pancreatitis, and aortic dissection.
So apart from taking pain medications for costochondritis discuss with your doctor these possibilities.
Also kidney removal could have resulted in adhesions in the abdomen causing these referred pains to ribs and shoulder.
