Avatar f tn Ask your doctor to do a blood test for amylase & lipase levels.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with inflammed pancreas which showed up on CT scan at emergency room. Since being released from hospital I keep having minor attacks of pain, but they seem to be getting worse. I am weak also. I do not drink. It does not seem to be related to what I eat. I am 6' and weigh 200lbs. Doctors are stumped. Does anyone have any experience with symptoms of pancreatic cancer?
Avatar n tn If you had Pancreatitis you would know it! The pain is normally starts out on your RIGHT side underneath your ribcage. Eventually the pain will shoot through the middle of your stomach and to your back. It is the most god awful pain you will ever experience in your life. In my opinion it was worse than any labor pains I ever experience. Read down farther in this forum. TazLady has posted many things in regards to Pancreatitis as well as Concerned Lady.
Avatar n tn Would pain due to pancreatitis be disabling in most cases? I am having post gallbladder removal problems, and I am concerned that my pain is due to pancreatitis? Had my surgery in June with a lot of problems afterwards. At one point I was diagnosed with a bile leak, and given antibiotics. After that I felt pretty good for several months, but now the pain has started again. I have a lot of pressure under my ribs, both sides. Stomach area is burning.
Avatar f tn The thing that is hard with it is, which you have experienced, your scans can look normal and blood tests also and you still have pain, nausea, fatigue and the whole pancreatitis everything! The ER will not do anything about this because nothing is showing up on any of your tests and according to the its not an "emergency" so get to a GI fast! chronic pancreatitis is hard to diagnose so hang in there!
Avatar m tn i am a 27 yr old female, with more pancreatitis attacks then i can count in the last year and a half. ive been accused of a frivilious life style which is so far from the truth. ive had every test known for this condition. in the last 2 months i was put on a protien suppliment to replace my emzymes that my pancreas produces. in the first 2 wks i lost 20 lbs, had no appetite, liquid bowel movements, dizziness, fatique, discoloring of the skin, and more symptoms i can even list.
Avatar n tn My neighbor took me to the emergency room and I was put under. When I woke up I was informed I had pancreatitis. I spent seven days in the hopital. I follow the advse from my Dr however in 2006 my lypase was evevated and after doing a scan my physician noticed an abnormality in the bile duct, I was referred to a specilist and there they performed a ECU.
Avatar n tn Once my pancreatitis had settled they discharged me to bring me back in as an out patient to have my gall bladder removed, before they could do this i was bought back into hospital because i had cholecystitis, once that had cleared up i had my gallbladder taken out in emergency surgery. The problem is i still have pain attacks now. My surgeon told me i was still healing from the surgery, i had the surgery on February 18th.
Avatar n tn My dog had acute pancreatitis over the weekend and I took him to an emergency vet on Sunday and to his vet on Mon. They both kept him overnight, IV, blood work, meds, and his vet did a rectal x-ray and abdominal x-ray with barium to look for obstruction. He found dirt/sand. My dog ate cat poop covered in dirt. He is at home now doing fine and I have him on a bland diet of canned white chicken and brown rice only. However, his lower abd/belly is a little distended and hard.
Avatar f tn I am now 61 years old and have chronic pancreatitis, fibromyalgia, IBS, GERD, asthma and problems with both the back and hips. I have had numerous surgeries due to the pancreas and liver. I have been on very strong meds for several years. Recently I was in a really bad situation partly due to my insurance company. I take opiate meds for pain. The last year and 1/2 that included Methadone and Fentanyl lollipops as well as other meds for nausea etc.
Avatar f tn Looking horrible he aged about 10 years just in 3 weeks which started with and emergency room visit for horrible pain about a month before. Then back into the emergency room a few days later as no one could bother to see him any sooner then a month later of the first visit to the hospital. The 2nd time the emergency room had the gastro doc look at the ct scan and the doc wanted to see him right away and the ER was told to admit him.
Avatar n tn we thought it was pancreatitis, now maybe hypoglycemia.. he takes perks for painkillers and tries to eat to make his attacks go away. also on primrose oil, and pancreas, nexium, and b100 vitamins.. his attacks consist of horrible abdominal pain, severe sweating, blurred vision, severe trembling and shaking, extreme shivers and almost feeling like passing out.
Avatar f tn We're assuming the cysts are causing the pain - is it possible for them to be causing the pain and pancreatitis attacks? Or could there be something causing the cysts AND pain, such as a blockage or something? Chronic pancreatitis has been ruled out- doc says there are no signs of chronic and each attack was just acute. He hasn't consumed ANY alcohol since feb (after 2nd attack), but does smoke ciggarettes (though cutting down to close to nothing).
Avatar n tn still am, i am, i keep getting hypoglycemia symptoms, constant brainfog, i did faint once was taken to emergency hospital. the nurse said i had low sugar levels, gave me buscuits to fix me, i didnt know back then that it wasnt normal to have low sugar levels,i have got t checked and its always on good levels now, i am still weak, dizzy also suffering depression from this also have had iflamation of the eyes which im on steroids for my liver enzymes (only alt.
Avatar n tn However, I am still experiencing intermittent left side pain and have had three bowel movements today that were narrow and gray (almost colorless). I am concerned that this may be a sign of pancreatic problems, but I don't want to overreact. How many of these type of bowel movements should I have before I call the doctor. Is this an emergency? (no fever, chill, etc.
Avatar n tn Librax (4X a day) Nexium (40 mgs 2X a day) Fibercon (3 pills 4X a day) Viokase 16 (4 pills 4X a day) Darvocet or Ultracet for the pain (Darvocet when I have a break through attack) Ambien (as needed) Erythromycin (1 and 1/2 Tsp - 4X a day) Since beginning the Viokase approximately four weeks ago I have found that I have some relief with the pain in my back and my overall day to day pain/discomfort has improved.
902019 tn?1249865014 It was a bit more intense on my right side but only slightly off center. The docs would always ask about pain in the back (typical of pancreatitis) and I never had any pain there. Could never come up with any definitive correlation with anything e.g. what I ate, how much I ate etc. They gave me Nexium 2x a day to calm the stomach but that had no effect at all. Still a mystery.
Avatar f tn For 14 years, I have suffered abdominal attacks in my diaframe very high up in the area between my rib cages. The pain mimics pancreatic pain. The pain is so horrible that I almost wish I could die. It usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes, but can be longer. I am paralized during these attacks & can't move. They usually occur 4 to 6 times a year with milder attacks in between the more serious attacks. Lately, they are becoming more frequent. I've gone to the ER 4 or 5 times over the years.
Avatar f tn i also had pancreatitis caused by gallstones , i had to stay in hospital 10 days and was told that i needed an emergency op to remove the gallbladder but they hadto wait till the pancreatitis got better so for 10 days i was n heavy pain meds no food at all until they operated then i was allowed home the next day!
Avatar f tn My husband is 61 years old and has been a heavy drinker for past 30 years. For the last 10 years he has had periodic "attacks" which have sent him to the emergency room numerous times (every time a different "diagnosis"). After so many years of various tests (and gallbladder removal, hearth caths which showed no blockages), our primary doctor thought this might be chronic pancreatitis (although enzymes are usually in "normal" range).
Avatar m tn I also got a call from the clinic saying the H pylori test got screwed up and I would have to do another (which I still havn't done due to the pancreatitis diagnoses) In emergency I got my vitals checked they were all normal. I got a blood test done again and everything was normal other than my lipase which had gone down to 200 u/l overnight. They let me go in a reasonable amount of time, no IV, and sent me home with some pain killers and told me to liquid diet for a few days.
Avatar n tn My wife has been diagnosed with severe uterine fibroids, three of them are the size of lemons according to the O/B. She has been experiencing abdominal pain, anal & rectal pain, constipation and diahreaha with some bleeding and nausea. Our Family Practicioner is aware of the fibroids. He did a blood test for pancreatis, a stool test for C.Diff. and perscribed a colon "relaxer" to ease cramping. A sonogram was also done for pancreatitis. All tests were normal.
Avatar f tn Our frustration is the doctors are now treating his pain as undiagnosed with a bout of pancreatitis in the middle (can you believe that?) His pediatrician doesn't believe he will find anything when they do the other tests and has booked him as an out patient. because his pain does come and go especially when medicated they felt he should get on with his life and come back for the tests.
Avatar n tn Sometimes the pain caused vomiting with trips to the emergency room. Remained pain free for several years but burining pain started again after meals. Ductal manometry (sp?) revealed I had a spasming pancreatic duct. This was treated with nefedipine (sp?) and improved temporarily but, but this burining pain has continued to occur sporadically throughout my life.
Avatar f tn My baby Sasha wasn’t acting her normal self since Christmas Eve. I noticed when i came home her bowl was still full like she hadn’t ate anything . She’s been moping around looking sad, not eating , throwing up & barely drinking water so she’s very dehydrated now. So on Tuesday i take her to the vet & she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. I spent $600 where she is hospitalized on 11/29-11/30 today under IV fluids, pain medications, meds to control her vomiting. But she’s still not eating..
Avatar n tn Please be specific because she insists that the doctors say the pain pills had nothing to do with her losing her baby or the pancreatitis. If they knew the amount she was ingesting would that make a difference in their opinion? Explain the process that these drugs take and how this medication can be a direct cause for losing the baby and having pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn Did they also give her antibiotics for the pancreatitis? How about pain meds.? This is an extremely painful condition....The trick here is to let the pancreas rest for the inflammation to go down. Usually, antibiotics are given incase the cause is infection. What you choose to feed her is the next step. Get them both off of Iams Food; as this is very LOW quality and they need much better nutrition for their senior years. LOW fat is what your sick girl will need.
Avatar n tn Dear Pattie, I assume from your posting that your pain is attributed to chronic pancreatitis and that other causes have been excluded. The pain from pancreatitis can be devastating. For those who suffer from chronic painful pancreatitis, each day is challenging. Some patients require ongoing narcotic use- Duragesic patches being one approach to relieve symptoms. Some, however, require klarge doses of demerol to control the pain.
Avatar n tn Hello, My Sister In Law has been in hospital for past 3 weeks(changed Hospital once), the diagnosis is pancreatitis but the lab work does not agree with this. Her Amylase is low 40's, Her Lipase is 20's. The rest of her Chems., and Heme results are normal. She just started having increased Glucose the past 5 days. She had Gastric Bypass Surgery in 2001 and had many problems after including having her Gall Bladder removed.
Avatar n tn Has anyone had an ERCP done while they had active pancreatitis? If so did your pain increase and your pancreatic enyzme levels rise? He is on a Dilaudid PCA pain pump 24 hours a day and he is on G tube suction but he is still throwing up and still in alot of pain and he is now getting chronic headaches. Any suggests would be helpful. He is TPN dependent so we know he has a fatty liver, also his spleen is enlarged and he cysts on his kidneys which also can cause him pain.
