Avatar n tn Cessation of alcohol intake is imperative, particularly if this is the underlying etiology of pancreatitis. Abstinence does not always lead to symptomatic improvement; however, patients with alcohol-induced chronic pancreatitis who continue to drink have increased mortality.
Avatar n tn Would pain due to pancreatitis be disabling in most cases? I am having post gallbladder removal problems, and I am concerned that my pain is due to pancreatitis? Had my surgery in June with a lot of problems afterwards. At one point I was diagnosed with a bile leak, and given antibiotics. After that I felt pretty good for several months, but now the pain has started again. I have a lot of pressure under my ribs, both sides. Stomach area is burning.
Avatar n tn I had to put my 11 year old Llhasa apso to sleep yesterday because he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and was in so much pain that they could not guarantee that he would survive even with treatment. It came on suddenly...he was fine Saturday but began throwing up in the middle of the night and continued...he couldn't even hold down water and was very weak. I took him into the veterinary hospital on Sunday and he was too weak to come home.
Avatar m tn I have been taking the Norco for so long know that it does not work as good as it use to and my doctor here in my home town wants to put me in the hospital to try and get the pain under control instead of trying a different kind of pain medicine. I understand that the pain control in the hospital ( which I have a fear of Hospitals) is better and would be a good way to be pain FREE for a couple of days, but would that make the Norco work better once I am back home?
Avatar f tn At that time he gave me Opana 10mg long term and break through pain meds. I found the Opana to be a pretty good pain control, but it was also over 80.00 to pay for it, which is just too expensive for me to continue to do. When I was in the hospital there was a pain management doctor that came up and they put me on a morphine pump instead of the 6 mg of morphine they were giving me every 2-4 hours. That worked ok, until I started to throw it up.
Avatar f tn How long can someone live (approx) with Chronic Pancreatitis when they are a heavy drinker? I have a family member that was Diagnosed with this and continues to drink heavy! He has had many attacks! This last time they wanted to place him in ICU but he checked him self out against Medical advise! If he continues to drink like this what will happen to him? Worried!!!
Avatar n tn My sister who is older than I is currently in a detoxification program resulting from pain meds that were intended to control the pancreatic pain. My sister became addicted to oxy contin, vicodin, and percocet. I would give you advice but it would be your choice to accept the advice... It is in your best interest to stay away from alcohol all together, as well as talking with your DR about a diet best suited for you and your disease.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with mild pancreatitis over 4 years ago it is on going. I currently still am experiencing slight pain on my right side. I have been seen by a GI doctor and a CT Scan, Ultra sound, MRCP have been performed. No issues have been found, I asked if it could be cancer and was told no tumors or cist we found wehn reviewing the xrays. We then tried to stop my BP meds thinking they could be the cause, but I could not stay off of them long enough to make a determination.
Avatar n tn Well I'll try to explain to you what i typically go thru. Seems like my pancreas pain and pancreatitis pain are kinda seperate. they seem to have different symptoms but as the same,,,if you understand what im trying to say. my stomach stays sore between my ribs right in the center, it's sore to the touch, my bach ached right up the center and it usually hurts in the left shoulder blade, kinda feels like a burning stabbing pain. it hurts under my left rib cage more like a aching burning pain.
Avatar n tn The dog is given IV hydration and nutrition, nausea and pain control, and then you wait it out. Is she eating anything at all? I hope your vet explained that avoiding fats is very important right now - and in the future. What did your vet determine to be the cause of the attack? Did your dog get into some fatty human food, or is something more ominous like cancer going on? Was an ultrasound done?
611067 tn?1458595083 That tells her that I'm at the tail end of a pancreatic attack. I told her the pain just started getting worse again and so she told me I'm not allowed to eat - only broth with no fat and water. Nothing else! That will help calm the pancreas down. If I get worse, to the ER I go!!! I also need to get into a gastroenterologist so they can do some tests. I'm scared to death. I have had pancreatitis before and it was horrible.
1825362 tn?1317886753 recently weaned myself off of methadone 20mg daily for pain. I still take 25mg to 30 mg oxycodone for pain control. 1.5 mg daily for anziety. Most days I am not out of the house.... others I do not get out of bed. I have tried antidepressants such as lexipro... Busprin.... effexor...zoloft and wellbutrin with no success. They made me feel sicker. I could not tolerate them. Felt like I had been poisoned. 7 years ago I was on paxil......
Avatar n tn Feel free to post again if you have any more questions. What are the symptoms of chronic pancreatitis? The symptoms are very variable. Pain occurs in most patients at some stage of the disease. This may vary in intensity from mild to severe. It may last for hours or sometimes days at a time and may require strong painkillers to control it. It often radiates through to the back and can sometimes be relieved by crouching forward.
Avatar n tn Because the vet gave us muscle relaxants and rimadahl to give for pain management, his pancreatitis flared up again. Now he is in the hospital on intravenous fluids and pain med injections. I just want to know anyone's thoughts on this? I really believe if he didn't have problems with his neck, the pancreatitis would have been controllable. But b/c of his "slipped disk" in his neck steroids is usually the treatment, but he can't have steroids b/c of the pancreatitis.
Avatar n tn Hi - Is there anyone in cyperspace that has Cystic Fibrosis that is pancreate sufficient and developed pancreatitis. Would really like to chat with you. Also has anyone with pancreatitis tried antioxidant vitamins such as melatonin, Vit and selenium? Did it help? What is the "10 fingers" mentioned to manage back pain? Once your gall bladder has been taken out has anyone been prescribed Actigal? We have and don't know why since my daughter no longer has a gall bladder.
Avatar f tn My 9 month old puppy was diagnosed with pancreatitis today, they kept him at the vet all day giving him IV fluids. They let us take him home tonight so he was only admitted for about 12 hours.
Avatar n tn Hi My brother is suffering from "pancreatitis ". Before suffering this test, he was having "jandice". As Jandice was not coming to control then, he admitted to hospital. Avatar n tn Librax (4X a day) Nexium (40 mgs 2X a day) Fibercon (3 pills 4X a day) Viokase 16 (4 pills 4X a day) Darvocet or Ultracet for the pain (Darvocet when I have a break through attack) Ambien (as needed) Erythromycin (1 and 1/2 Tsp - 4X a day) Since beginning the Viokase approximately four weeks ago I have found that I have some relief with the pain in my back and my overall day to day pain/discomfort has improved.
902019 tn?1249865014 It was a bit more intense on my right side but only slightly off center. The docs would always ask about pain in the back (typical of pancreatitis) and I never had any pain there. Could never come up with any definitive correlation with anything e.g. what I ate, how much I ate etc. They gave me Nexium 2x a day to calm the stomach but that had no effect at all. Still a mystery.
Avatar n tn Has lost weight Still drinking alcohol to sleep Left hand is currently numb Recently his hands swelled up/red, mainly his left hand and especially his left hand ring finger, knuckle ballooned out. pain/tenderness in the middle of his abdomin when the Dr.

Avatar f tn Usually pancreatitis can only be diagnosed with a combination of clinical signs such as vomiting, abdominal pain and fever along with a positive results for a specific blood test (probably the one your veterinarian had sent in), and confirmation with an abdominal ultrasound. In the meantime, you and your veterinarian should keep an open mind, and always ask the question, "What else can it be?", especially if your dog is not getting better.
559187 tn?1330786456 I had to stay home sick today as I did not get any sleep last night because of stomach pain and nausea. I am also having fatigue that is so overwhelming and comes on so quickly that I feel compelled to stop whatever I am doing and go lay down. That is very strange as that never happens to me. So I called my PCP to tell her what was going on.
Avatar m tn I find these help alot to keep the pain under control, but I also have to control my diet and avoid fatty foods and wheat products. I am still under investigation and seeking a second opinion to get a definate diagnosis. Best of luck for the future. I hope you eventually find a cure.
Avatar n tn Is there anything else we should be doing besides draining his stomach and pain control? We don't see an end in site. He has had pancreatitis in the past. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Sounds like the underlying issue is him getting better pain control because it is obvious it is affecting alot of aspects of his life. Is he seeing Pain Management at all? I am not sure if he "max out" with the amount or dosage of pain meds or meds he is taking. You can talk to him about the idea of a schedule or a plan in regards to sex and see what he thinks. He would be the better one to ask in regards to what to do without hurting him. Talk to him and see what he says.
Avatar n tn Either not being able to or having to eat. I got pancreatitis from the precedure it was well worth it to get rid of the pain. Pancreatitis pain for me was much different - the pain spread across the rib cage settling mostly in the left side, and in the back. I did have severe bloating and was unable to pass gas. Pushing on my stomach was unbearable. I hope this helps you.
Avatar f tn I spent $600 where she is hospitalized on 11/29-11/30 today under IV fluids, pain medications, meds to control her vomiting. But she’s still not eating... the doctor says to feed her low fat digestive good but she won’t even open her mouth, I’m afraid she will never eat again . All of her other test was negative, she doesn’t have parvo either. Is it normal for a dog to go this long without food? I’m afraid if she doesn’t start eating she won’t make it. I’m out of options.
