Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis medications treatment

pancreatitis

Avatar n tn The endoscopy found mild gastritis. All other test are normal. The pancreatic specialist did not mention pancreatitis at the time and only prescribed nexium and sulcrafate for the gastritis. I am 67, and never had a previous bout with pancreatitis. Moderate beer drinker. How should I be treated?
Avatar n tn however, patients with alcohol-induced chronic pancreatitis who continue to drink have increased mortality. Treatment for chronic pancreatitis primarily involves pain control - although it is sometimes stated that chronic pancreatitis "burns out" over time, the duration of time over which this may occur is highly variable, if it occurs at all. If medications aren't doing the job, then more specialized treatment may be considered.
Avatar n tn I had to put my 11 year old Llhasa apso to sleep yesterday because he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and was in so much pain that they could not guarantee that he would survive even with treatment. It came on suddenly...he was fine Saturday but began throwing up in the middle of the night and continued...he couldn't even hold down water and was very weak. I took him into the veterinary hospital on Sunday and he was too weak to come home.
Avatar f tn Methotrexate, as you say, is licensed by the FDA for the treatment of some diseases, as it is here in England by NICE, our governing body of medications and treatment. This does not stop consultants prescribing it "off licence" for Crohn's. It is a cytotoxic chemo drug and needs constant vigilance with monthly blood tests. I believe when I first started it I had weekly blood tests for 3 months, then fortnightly, and now only monthly.
Avatar f tn However, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and other antimicrobials should be used to cover possible infectious causes such as toxoplasmosis infection, and to cover infections secondary to the pancreatitis, if warrented. Treatment of pancreatitis in cats include the following: For Anorexia (not eating), use appetite stimulant medications. For Dehydration, use IV and/or Sub Q fluid therapy, For Hypothermia (dangerously decreased body heat), use incubators, heating pad, etc.
559187 tn?1330786456 Has anyone here ever had pancreatitis? If so, did you have it after getting your MS diagnosis? I am wondering how much of an impact, if any, did the this affect your MS symptoms? I can't possibly believe that this could trigger yet another MS relapse as I feel I paid my dues with the relapse hat just preceeded the pancreatits, but is it possible? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I need to know the cause of acute pancreatitis, treatment, proper medications for this problem, and if there is any type of surgery that would prevent this. I do not have a stone, so that was ruled out. I am desperate! Recently, I had pancreatitis for the eleventh time in about six years. Each time it seems worse. Please help me. Thank you.

6472661 tn?1381772732 It is managed with fluids, antibiotics, anti-emetic (anti nausea/vomiting medications) and pain medications. I did not personally examine your dog, but it sounds very much like pancreatitis. It may take a while for her to overcome this and she can have relapses in the future. I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a second vet's opinion if you are concerned, but it is not a condition that is gone in a matter of 2-3 days. Good luck!
902019 tn?1249865014 I was diagnosed 2 years ago with AIP, have a 25 year history of autoimmune disorders (eosinophilic vasculitis, mild Sjogren's). Usually have done well with prednisone for the various flare-ups but with AIP, still recurring symptoms and the elevated IgG4 periodically. Next step may be Imuran. Is there anyone out there who has had good results with Imuran for autoimmune pancreatitis?
1168110 tn?1272685917 From the multiple problems that you describe, it sounds like you have had a problem with one or more chronic infections that caused thyroiditis, pancreatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and more (my wife actually had this complex multi-symptom condition). In many cases chronic infections can be attributed to the FMS, thyroiditis, pancreatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.

793908 tn?1294708709 This is a report on PANCREATITIS for those who need to know about it. Julie took a turn for the worst..out of nowhere. Yesterday/last night & this morning, I thought we'd lose her, but for now, she is better. She started vomiting 3x in the afternoon. She was visably sick. (of course this happens on the holiday weekend) I called her Vet at 6 pm & he was on his way to the Jersey Shore.
Avatar f tn After two days i was told last night her kidney is at 7, i cant remember what her BUN was or any other number because at that point i was told she now has pancreatitis and her liver is going bad as well. They are releasing her today with me and told me to take her home, make her comfortable at home and she can either pass on her own or i can bring her in after a few days to be put down. I am having a hard time with this whole thing and felt it came on quickly.
Avatar f tn I hope someone out there can help me. For 14 years, I have suffered abdominal attacks in my diaframe very high up in the area between my rib cages. The pain mimics pancreatic pain. The pain is so horrible that I almost wish I could die. It usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes, but can be longer. I am paralized during these attacks & can't move. They usually occur 4 to 6 times a year with milder attacks in between the more serious attacks. Lately, they are becoming more frequent.
Avatar f tn This leaves the patient with CP that is undiagnosed so they are not getting the proper medications and treatment . CP does not always have elevated enzymes. I have seen many people with CP with normal enzymes and CT results. It sounds as if you need to seek out a new DR especially with the results showing inflammation of the pancreatic head. I would personally go to one of those I have mentioned above so you can be assured of getting the correct diagnosis.
Avatar m tn If you are e-positive then the end of treatment is becoming e-negative. If you are e-negative then the end of treatment is less clear and needs further discussion.
Avatar n tn I am sorry to hear about your ongoing pancreatitis. I recently was searching the internet for IVIg treatment because my neuro said he wanted to try it on me. While it is very expensive, it is a treatment for MS and may be an option for you. Here is a link, in case you want to know more: http://www.msadvances.com/faq.php3 Hope this helps...
Avatar f tn Cirrhosis of the liver has many causes with two being diabetes and obesity. Chronic pancreatitis needs treatment. There are medications to help lower your sugar, but your doctors must have a reason for not giving these to you. I don't know what their thinking is. For your diet, remember that it isn't just the sweets that raise you sugar, it is carbohydrates in general. You need to avoid white bread, white potatoes, etc.
Avatar n tn I did not feel pain until I went through the Interferon/Ribavarin treatment for 9 months, after the treatment I started feeling pain and I have had the pain for 10 years with no stopage of that pain, as a matter a fact, just recently after another CT Scan was done, the pain increased somewhat.
Thank you. Dear Charlotte, The most common causes of acute pancreatitis in the United States are alcoholic pancreatitis and gallstone pancreatitis.
Avatar m tn If a dog needs to be on Prednisone for 6 months, is there anything one can do to help prevent the bad side effects like erosion in the stomach and GI, Pancreatitis, muscle loss, etc ?
Avatar f tn Maintaining a liver friendly lifestyle will also help to reduce the chance of the disease progression (no alcohol, healthy diet, exercise, and weight) Treatment for hepatitis c has made some huge strides recently and new medications are being developed at a rapid pace. He will very likely be able to treat and eradicate the disease before it ever really marks him. Most people (not all) do not have symptoms unless their disease has advanced after many many years.
Avatar n tn Unlike HIV, successful hepatitis C treatment can result in viral clearance. The main goal of treatment is a sustained virologic response, when HCV remains undetectable six months after completion of therapy. More than 85% of people who have achieved an sustained virologic response remain free of HCV five years after completion of therapy. Secondary goals of treatment include normalization of liver enzymes and improvement in liver inflammation and fibrosis.
Avatar n tn Is the treatment still as rough as chemo? I will get treatment but just was hoping to hear some positive imput other than the treatment works.
Avatar m tn If all the GOOD doctors out there could feel comfortable speaking up about the necessity of these medications in the treatment of their patients, this petition would be reduced to ashes in a day. Sadly, our doctors already feel like their are working with one hand tied behind their back - and under constant scrutiny for doing what they KNOW is right for their patients. I don't know how to end opioid abuse. What I DO know is the PROP petition is NOT going to do it.
1046633 tn?1253702328 Treatment nearly killed me. I ended up admitted through the ER for an attack of Acute Pancreatitis and believe me...it was only a......not cute (smiling goofily). Now I'm laughing at my stupid joke but that's ok. Hey, it has been a month since I was taken off treatment because of the pancreatitis and I am feeling the James Brown kind of "I feel good!
10805050 tn?1420939120 It is one pill a day and for treatment naive patients your treatment could be as short as 8 weeks. Look around the site and read some posts I am sure you will learn a lot that way. A link was started about what treatment people did and their results an unscientific survey but still interesting here is the link to that post http://www.medhelp.
