Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis medications cause

pancreatitis

Avatar f tn //www.mayoclinic.com/health/pancreatitis/ds00371/dsection=causes "Pancreatitis occurs when digestive enzymes produced in your pancreas become activated while inside the pancreas, causing damage to the organ. During normal digestion, the inactivated pancreatic enzymes move through ducts in your pancreas and travel to the small intestine, where the enzymes become activated and help with digestion. In pancreatitis, the enzymes become activated while still in the pancreas.
Avatar n tn What are they actually treating and what symptoms do you have other than high liver enzymes. Do you have Lupus or Autoimmune Pancreatitis/Hepatitis where the immune system is going haywire?
Avatar m tn I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. It's unlikely that pancreatitis results in acute liver failure/necrosis (ALN)- while pancreatitis can result in ELEVATED liver function tests (LFTs), it shouldn't cause failure. Cause for ALN include blue-green algae exposure (in stagnant ponds), sago palm ingestion, xylitol sugar-free gum, a few medications, etc. Sometimes end-stage liver disease (cirrhosis) can also cause acute liver failure also.
Avatar n tn The endoscopy found mild gastritis. All other test are normal. The pancreatic specialist did not mention pancreatitis at the time and only prescribed nexium and sulcrafate for the gastritis. I am 67, and never had a previous bout with pancreatitis. Moderate beer drinker. How should I be treated?
Avatar f tn Pancreatitis can, indeed, cause back pain: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pancreatitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20360227 Please return to your doctor sooner rather than later to discuss your new onset back pain.
Avatar n tn The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. In the meantime take oral fluids. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1807187 tn?1316861276 If the doc prescribed Creon, it's possible the diagnosis could be pancreatitis, but you should ask your doctor for an exact diagnosis and also ask what diet you should be following for the condition you have. In general, most docs tell patients who have acute pancreatitis to follow a liquid diet for a period of time then slowly transition to a soft diet that is very low in fat. That can be followed up by changing back to a 'regular' low fat diet.
Avatar n tn I have read that gallbladder surgery is dangerous in the presence of pancreatitis and that the pancreatitis can also cause gallbladder disease or vice versa. Anyone had similar question?
Avatar f tn Hi, One of the most common causes of elevated liver enzymes is medications. Over-the-counter meds like Ibuprofen,Tylenol, Naproxen Sodium and also some common antibiotics can cause elevated liver enzymes. Statins taken for cholesterol often cause elevated liver enzymes. This list is from the Mayo Clinic:’ http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn you are correct, cat food, being richer, has set off his pancreatitis. As you know acute pancreatitis can be a fatal event. It can also be transient. no one knows how your dog will do. Medications will decrease the severity of this event and sounds like if you get him over this you have managed his diet very well. I'd like to see his pancreatic work up and treat him to get him over this quickly and so that it does not progress further.
229538 tn?1300377767 Hi all ! Can someone please tell me about pancreatitis and the mortality rate when your cat gets it ? My Kaci cat whom I just love so much is old (about 161/2 ) and I have been taking her to the Vet to get hydrated about every 4 days . She is not really eating well and I am really worried . Avatar m tn I'm a 29 year old male and I have been having more of a discomfort than pain in my left side below my ribcage. Occasionally it's a little painful, but it's a dull pain. I'm starting to get a little worried about pancreatitis after some online research. It's been going on and off for years. I used to abuse alcohol, but have been relatively clean for over a year, with a few relapses here and there. Could this be something like pancreatitis or something else?
Avatar n tn I had to put my 11 year old Llhasa apso to sleep yesterday because he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and was in so much pain that they could not guarantee that he would survive even with treatment. It came on suddenly...he was fine Saturday but began throwing up in the middle of the night and continued...he couldn't even hold down water and was very weak. I took him into the veterinary hospital on Sunday and he was too weak to come home.
Avatar f tn Since my surgery, I have hospitalized 3 times with pancreatitis. I now have a GJ (feeding tube) and I am NPO except for ice chips and sugar free gum. My doctor thinks I would benefit from having the rest of my pancreas removed. Has anyone had issues like this? I am on Creon and pain medications daily.
Avatar f tn I hate Asacol and I find it does nothing but cause joint pain especially in my fingers to the point that I can't pick up a glass. I have never felt any benefit from it and I know there are alternative meds out there, but my doctor refuses to give me anything else. My crohns is in the rectum and large intestine.
312330 tn?1245176752 We tried using Methotrexate a few months ago, but my liver enzymes skyrocketed and I developed acute pancreatitis (they have never clearly found the cause of the pancreatitis, whether it was medication-induced, or part of the disease). My liver enzymes continue to remain elevated and I feel quite similar to how I felt when I first had Hep A, except that I'm not experiencing that nausea/vomiting....instead I just have the fatigue and URQ pain.
1835769 tn?1318283340 My doctor just last week went through a plan to slow down my medications. I am on 120mg of oxycotin and 50mg of percacet a day along with a butrain paatch at 10mcg/hour. He was going to do something different then oxycotin that wouldnt effect my liver but i didnt know the name, and still do 5 percacets then go down and just take me off the patch.
Avatar f tn Long term bulimia can result in pancreatitis, which in turn , over time can cause permanent damage to the insulin producing organ. I speak from experience ive been bulimic for 24 years, and am now diabetic due to long term pancreatitis.
936335 tn?1246412231 Your symptoms could be SO many things including microscopic sludge/stones in the common bile duct, gallbladder problems, Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction, Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, autoimmune pancreatitis, mininal change chronic pancreatitis, etc., etc., etc. Pancreatic and ductal pain is among the most horrendous pain there is. If you cannot manage your pain, talk to your primary care physician and ask for some medication!
Avatar n tn Were you diagnosed with acute or chronic pancreatitis? What was said to be the cause? Did they make pancreatic function tests? Have you other diseases?
Avatar f tn Please make sure that the ERCP with done WITH a manometry component. Many facilities are unable to do it (docs aren't trained or they don't have the equipement), but it's a very necessary part of the procedure. If the ductal pressures aren't high, the sphincter at the opening of the common bile duct at the duodenum should NOT be cut. Many docs routinely cut that sphincter and if the pressures aren't high it can cause problems down the line.
Avatar n tn Can the medicine Zanaflex cause Pancreatitis? I have looked up information on this med and it states that 1 out of 20 patients could develop liver damage. I was diagnosed with Pancreatitis on 10/14/08. I had never had it in my life. I am afraid this medicine has caused it. I have never ever picked up any type of drink other than diet pepsi and jucie. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am so scared and hurting.
