pancreatitis

Avatar n tn The endoscopy found mild gastritis. All other test are normal. The pancreatic specialist did not mention pancreatitis at the time and only prescribed nexium and sulcrafate for the gastritis. I am 67, and never had a previous bout with pancreatitis. Moderate beer drinker. How should I be treated?
Avatar n tn Has anyone ever had pancreatitis? I am wondering if I this is what is causing my left side pain under my rib cage. This appears at any time of day or night and lasts several hours. The pain feels like I have been running and got a side ache almost under my breast. My doctor has not suggested this, he is trying to ignore my symptoms for some reason. He found a small liver cyst, 2 weeks ago and then sent me for blood work.
Avatar f tn you are correct, cat food, being richer, has set off his pancreatitis. As you know acute pancreatitis can be a fatal event. It can also be transient. no one knows how your dog will do. Medications will decrease the severity of this event and sounds like if you get him over this you have managed his diet very well. I'd like to see his pancreatic work up and treat him to get him over this quickly and so that it does not progress further.
Avatar n tn I had to put my 11 year old Llhasa apso to sleep yesterday because he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and was in so much pain that they could not guarantee that he would survive even with treatment. It came on suddenly...he was fine Saturday but began throwing up in the middle of the night and continued...he couldn't even hold down water and was very weak. I took him into the veterinary hospital on Sunday and he was too weak to come home.
Avatar f tn //www.mayoclinic.com/health/pancreatitis/ds00371/dsection=causes "Pancreatitis occurs when digestive enzymes produced in your pancreas become activated while inside the pancreas, causing damage to the organ. During normal digestion, the inactivated pancreatic enzymes move through ducts in your pancreas and travel to the small intestine, where the enzymes become activated and help with digestion. In pancreatitis, the enzymes become activated while still in the pancreas.
Avatar f tn Repeat episodes of acute pancreatitis can also lead to chronic pancreatitis. To lower your risk of repeat episodes of pancreatitis, avoid drinking too much alcohol and have regular follow-up with your attending physician. Laboratory tests that show the release of pancreatic enzymes include like increased blood amylase level, increased serum blood lipase level or increase urine amylase level can be done to determine any recurrences. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Dear Kerrie, Pamcreatitis canbe one of the complications of lupus- either a direct result of the vasculitis or an adverse effect of the medications that you take, It is always necessary to exclude gallstone-induced pancreatitis because stones can cause a more severe pancreatitis as well as cholangitis (inflammation of the bile duct). Pnacreatiti susually presents with sharp painin th ecenter of the abomen near the ribs. The pain may go straiught through to the back.
Avatar n tn Here are some of the medications which are known to cause acute pancreatitis. I will check specifically on the Cipro and get back to you.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Some medications can cause an episode of pancreatitis but it would be unlikely for it to do this if you are taking adderall daily.
Avatar f tn I hate Asacol and I find it does nothing but cause joint pain especially in my fingers to the point that I can't pick up a glass. I have never felt any benefit from it and I know there are alternative meds out there, but my doctor refuses to give me anything else. My crohns is in the rectum and large intestine.
Avatar f tn For Anorexia (not eating), use appetite stimulant medications. For Dehydration, use IV and/or Sub Q fluid therapy, For Hypothermia (dangerously decreased body heat), use incubators, heating pad, etc.
Avatar m tn I'm starting to get a little worried about pancreatitis after some online research. It's been going on and off for years. I used to abuse alcohol, but have been relatively clean for over a year, with a few relapses here and there. Could this be something like pancreatitis or something else?
Avatar n tn I need to know the cause of acute pancreatitis, treatment, proper medications for this problem, and if there is any type of surgery that would prevent this. I do not have a stone, so that was ruled out. I am desperate! Recently, I had pancreatitis for the eleventh time in about six years. Each time it seems worse. Please help me. Thank you.
701334 tn?1262857103 male, non smoker, stopped drinking(weeked warrior, heavy at times, but stopped) i have a buddy with pancreatitis, and im scared this could be that too,but i look at him,and compare myself to him,and im NOWHERE near as bad as he is,,,,but what could be causing this pain in center into my back?
Avatar n tn My doctor has been suspecting chronic pancreatitis as the cause of my pain. However, when I recently had my amylase test done it came in at 30. Is this within the normal range? She doesn't seem too sure about it. She told me normal is 30-150. I am living with constant pain in behind my sternum and it radiates into my back.
Avatar n tn I know from experience how awful pancreatitis can be, and hope he at least has a decent pain management doc. I can't imagine going through a huge surgery like a Whipple only to have it fail. Do the docs give you any idea at all as to why he is still having attacks? Another blockage? Scar tissue? Anything? It may be true that there really isn't anything left to do. People with chronic pancreatitis sometimes suffer for years and years until the pancreas basically burns itself out.
902019 tn?1249865014 The other thing you may want to ask about is a comment I saw on the Mayo Clinic site that said that Imuran can cause or contribute to Pancreatitis. I'd love to know what he/she says on both counts.
Avatar n tn The result is inflammation. SO WHY IS HCN NOT LISTED AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE IN ANY MEDICAL INFORMATION? I have read many people having attacks whithout knowing the reason. Reports of rare cases of food allergy acute pancreatitis. They realized the reason after 3-5 attacks. Could this be just HCN mild poisoning? Thank you in advance.
Avatar m tn Could the prescription antacid, and three over the counter medications I took hours prior to my blood test (two of which are known to cause apparently negligible Lipase increases) cause a large Lipase spike? 3. I have only two symptoms of pancreatitis and do not have nausea, headaches, jaundice, fatty stool, vomiting, constipation, low B/P, rapid heart rate, fever, sweats or an inflamed pancreas 4.
Avatar n tn I forgot to mention the info on the CF gene that can cause pancreatitis. It is a mutated CF gene called CFTR. TazLady is right, you need to find a GI that will treat her symptoms.
407651 tn?1224193495 i cant take nsaids, dihydrocodein and some other medications including diuretics as they all seem to cause me kidney pain. the last tests shwed that my kidneys were ok. however i am having problems with my heart rate and am in process getting a POTS diagnosis.and these were the drugs that the dr was saying they can use to help however i am worried a to the effect they have on my kidneys and wondered if anyone has any advice.
1168110 tn?1272685917 From the multiple problems that you describe, it sounds like you have had a problem with one or more chronic infections that caused thyroiditis, pancreatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and more (my wife actually had this complex multi-symptom condition). In many cases chronic infections can be attributed to the FMS, thyroiditis, pancreatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.
Avatar f tn They told me to get off Depakote as soon as possible or I would basically die. I then went through a series of different Seizure Medications until I found one that worked almost as well. I am now on 500mg's of Lamictal and 1.0mg's of Klonopin. I was treated by an Endocrinologist and I got better. After some time though I was continuing to have "flare-ups" and I still do. Some weeks are good and some aren't. This includes a no fat diet or eating whatever. I have a new Endo.
Avatar f tn even though I once had pancreatitis, they don't think this is the cause. My Dr., who I like very much, has explored the possibility of anxiety or my personality type. However, most of my anxiety in life, is the result of these attacks. I'm afraid to plan outings or vacations because of the probability of an attack. I've even gotten to the point of being affraid of eating because there might be some foods that trigger attacks.
Avatar n tn As for the cause of the pancreatitis..I know they didn't see evid of gallstones in any of the tests CT, U/S, ERCP or EUS, but I was told by his doc that thats not to say he didn't pass one and it just was not to be seen. He was not on any meds prior. Alcohol has also been on their differential, but don't you see the AST being higher then the ALT with alcohol related elev liver enzymes?
Avatar f tn I am sure it is like an upper endoscopy with an ultra sound attachment. When they do an EUS is there any chance the test could cause pancreatitis like an ERCP. ERCP's can be very tricky and my doctor doesn't want to even go there if she doesn't have to. I can tell you that I have normal liver enzymes, normal mri of the abdomen, and two Ct scans that showed possible inflammation of the pancreatic head. I was told that Ct scans were probably a normal variant.
