Pancreatitis in pets

Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis in pets

pancreatitis

Avatar m tn I know this sounds bad but our hounds will learn that people food is not good for them and most vets will tell the same thing as the fat in our foods is too hard on our loving pets stomachs. The truth hurts I know from experience as we almost lost our minipin by letting her eat leftovers one night. The vet said that the fat content that our little one ate was too rich and it may her pancreas shut down basically.
Avatar f tn He is a very sensitive, nervous cat. His labs indicate that he does not have pancreatitis, and overall his lab work looks good. He had a full senior work up, as well as urinanalysis and the test for the pancreatitis (negative). He has been dehydrated, not eating well, nauseated and vomiting. Is the next step to do an ultrasound?
82861 tn?1333453911 She was a true comic and always made us laugh with her antics. We lost Travis to pancreatitis in 2005, and his loss like to killed us all. We found him on a dirt road nearly starved to death, and with the worst case of mange our vet has ever seen. He was all of 6 weeks old at the time and with time, TLC and medical care was one of the best dogs you could ever want to meet. Everyone instantly fell in love with him.
82861 tn?1333453911 He can count on having several cases of pancreatitis coming in along with the usual overindulgence GI symptoms. Pancreatitis is expensive to treat because it's usually done in-patient and the condition is fatal more often than not. Much as dogs love human food, it's better to be safe than sorry and keep them on their usual diet. Educate your guests that human food is off the menu for your dogs no matter how much they beg.
Avatar f tn Treatment for acute pancreatitis People with acute pancreatitis are treated with IV fluids and pain medications in the hospital. In up to 25% of patients, the pancreatitis can be severe and patients may need to be admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). In the ICU, the patient is closely watched because pancreatitis can damage the heart, lungs, or kidneys. Some cases of severe pancreatitis can result in death of pancreatic tissue.
1807187 tn?1316861276 s possible the diagnosis could be pancreatitis, but you should ask your doctor for an exact diagnosis and also ask what diet you should be following for the condition you have. In general, most docs tell patients who have acute pancreatitis to follow a liquid diet for a period of time then slowly transition to a soft diet that is very low in fat. That can be followed up by changing back to a 'regular' low fat diet.
Avatar f tn Yesterday my father fed my dog, Ashes, two day old taco meat. She started vomiting and became sick. I gave her pedialyte to keep from dehydrating. All day yesterday I told my parents to keep giving her water because the temperatures are raising above 30 degrees here. We kept her out of the sun. For twelve hours as advised I did not feed her anything until this morning I gave her doggy food, she ate some but she didn't finish it. So I gave her bland food instead which she did not eat.
Avatar m tn ploryi blood test/liver/pancrease panel and possibly a endoscope to find out what is going on in your stomach. A gi specialist would probably be best. If this is truly pancreatitis you would need to stop drinking to let the pancrease heal before permament damage is done...(normally) BUT i'm not a doctor.. a visit with a gi specialist would be the way to go..
Avatar n tn Wednesday the test results showed he had pancreatitis, which shocked me because his diet is low in fats. He had one bowel movement which was solid and didn't seem abnormal (smell wasn't unusual, color wasn't odd). The next day his temperature rose and the vet wanted him on fluids again. I was also giving him medication prescribed to him to help with the inflammation of his pancreas.
Avatar n tn Because the vet gave us muscle relaxants and rimadahl to give for pain management, his pancreatitis flared up again. Now he is in the hospital on intravenous fluids and pain med injections. I just want to know anyone's thoughts on this? I really believe if he didn't have problems with his neck, the pancreatitis would have been controllable. But b/c of his "slipped disk" in his neck steroids is usually the treatment, but he can't have steroids b/c of the pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn Fish body oil, such as salmon oil (not cod liver oil), and antioxidants, including vitamins C and E, beta carotene, and selenium, may help reduce the risk of acute pancreatitis. Dogs with chronic pancreatitis can be deficient in B vitamins, so a B-complex supplement is also recommended. -------- Hoping that helps a little. I'll be back with more later.
Avatar m tn Hi Kelley. I'm so sorry to hear about your little boxer. Pancreatitis is a terrible disease for dogs (and people) to endure. If your vet hasn't yet performed an ultrasound, that will be the next step. They'll need to check to see how swollen the pancreas is, if there is something like a tumor or pseudo-cyst, or even a birth defect causing the trouble. It's even possible there is something blocking the pancreatitic or common bile duct at the root of the problem.
936335 tn?1246412231 Your symptoms could be SO many things including microscopic sludge/stones in the common bile duct, gallbladder problems, Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction, Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, autoimmune pancreatitis, mininal change chronic pancreatitis, etc., etc., etc. Pancreatic and ductal pain is among the most horrendous pain there is. If you cannot manage your pain, talk to your primary care physician and ask for some medication!
Avatar m tn He is blind, deaf, has a torn ACL which has severly affect his back legs and he now has problems walking, has pancreatitis, and pretty much sleeps and eats. I have had him since he was 8 weeks and I just can't bring myself to saying goodbye. I appreciate the advise I received from everyone but I still can't make the decision. Today after I fed him, I picked him up and took him to his water dish.

1994268 tn?1329466212 Hi my dog is a fox terrier cross and is white in colour. He has growths on his body that seem to be growing ( started out looking like warts) - could this be an indication of cancer.
1481080 tn?1287590520 m reading say they place the stent at the same time as the Sphincterotomy, for the very reason of trying to avoid pancreatitis. I did end up in the hosp. overnight because of severe pain. But aside from feeling like a horse kicked me in the belly, I'm ok and eating a little. Won't the pancreatic duct scar over if it's not stented when he does the procedure? Also curious, has anyone had a jumping/flipping/painful/?? feeling in the area of the stent shortly after the procedure?
Avatar f tn How many extras did your dog share in on Thanksgiving? The jaundice has me wondering about pancreatitis and I don't see amylase or lipase in the labs.
Avatar f tn I live with my mom and she has two cats and I have one who I brought with me when i oves back in. My mom a one cat loves to be around me, the other one could care leas. But my cat NEVER leaves my side! Anywhere I go in the house he follows me, or comes chasing after me. If he's not in my lap, he is sleeping in my bed. He will literally sleep in my lap with his body wrapped around my belly and usually one paw up and around it. Its so cute! Wish I could post a pic!
Avatar f tn I have two 30lbs cat thatvr currently sleeping in the bassinet. No point in me telling them no when im not around theyll go in anyways lol i just let them do as they please.
Avatar f tn My dog been pissing me off the last few days. She has been shyting in her cage!! The other day I was like okay maybe she had to really in the middle of night. Now yesterday she didn't poop at all. Then woke up this am and shyt all in cage again. Like wtf I can't member the last time she has done this. Is she actin out because the baby? I hope not.
10131590 tn?1408165341 pets, cats especially can be funny that way. I'm 11 weeks pregnant, and have two kitties.
Avatar f tn So my dogs are okay, just beware of kitty's poo? The thing is... Unfortunately Kitty doesn't like the litter box. And they're not trained in a sense. They ALL have a habit of going into the shower in the exact same corner and all poops are scrambled in that corner. So idk who's poop belongs to whom.
Avatar f tn I have always had animals but we got our cat when my 2nd baby was about 6months old and the cat was fine but i just find myself worrying about her suffocating the baby when its born by getting into the moses basket,I have decided to keep the moses basket in my room during the day and keep the door shut so the baby sleeps in it at night and put the baby in a rocker during the day. I just do not know what to do really,i really cannot stand the cat being near me and she is rrally irritating me!
1373602 tn?1373026364 I am sure dogs will get used to the babies (usually they love kids). Although you have to be really careful that the dog doesn't lick the baby or jumps into baby's crib because they have germs and hair which are very harmful to a sensitive baby (it applies to cats and other furry pets as well).
