Avatar f tn I am in the same boat as both of you. Did you have acute pancreatitis when it first hit? Have had acid issues for yrs, last yr started getting upper left sided jabs of pain, my lipase was doubled and then remained slightly elevated for at least 2 wks. My pain lasted at least 3/4 months now the pains have come back some...not to the same degree. I have had so many scans, but pancreatitis does not show.
Avatar f tn With repeated bouts of acute pancreatitis, damage to the pancreas can occur and lead to chronic pancreatitis. Scar tissue may form in the pancreas, causing loss of function. A poorly functioning pancreas can cause digestion problems and diabetes.

Avatar f tn I've already had my gall bladder removed years ago (full of tiny little sand-like stones). I recently had another attack that required me to go to the ER, which I was sure was Pancreatitis (I'd had it before due to the stones before the gall bladder was removed). It didn't show up in my blood work as Pancreatitis. The ultrasound showed that my ducts were dilated - what could cause this sort of thing?
719251 tn?1230340905 My mother has been suffering from Pancreatitis for the past 4months. She has been in hospital three times with severe pain, vomitting, and fluid in the abdominal. In that time she has lots over 25kg. She is 60 years old but since loosing so much weight she looks like 80 years old. She no longer drinks but continues to smoke. What worries me the most is that she eats very tiny amount of food, she vomitts everyday and she is just not getting any better.
1674610 tn?1317002220 Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Pancreatitis is usually caused by gallstones or alcohol. Pancreatitis can't turn into pancreatic cancer but people who already have pancreatic cancer, can get pancreatitis which is why you and your mother had the same symptoms.
Avatar f tn Treatment for acute pancreatitis People with acute pancreatitis are treated with IV fluids and pain medications in the hospital. In up to 25% of patients, the pancreatitis can be severe and patients may need to be admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). In the ICU, the patient is closely watched because pancreatitis can damage the heart, lungs, or kidneys. Some cases of severe pancreatitis can result in death of pancreatic tissue.
Avatar m tn She has pancreatitis in the past but for about 7 times in the last 5 months she is been in an out of the hospital with acute pancreatitis. When pancreatitis occurs she always has a strong pain with elevated Amylase and Lipase levels suggesting a pancreatic dysfunction. Yesterday she woke up vomiting with just a litter abdominal discomfort. Blood work shows no significant levels of amylase or lipase. I thought for a moment she probably has a gastric virus but then the Dr.

Avatar f tn You may have chronic pancreatitis. Find a biliary specialist soon. You should get testing to determine if you have this or not. If you do they will advise you what to do to help.
Avatar n tn Hida Scan, back xrays, and all the lab work, that includes blood test for pancreas and liver. They did find two side branch lesions about 1 cm each in the pancreas. The radiologist and my pancreatic specialist said they need to be monitored and no real concern at this time. The endoscopy found mild gastritis. All other test are normal. The pancreatic specialist did not mention pancreatitis at the time and only prescribed nexium and sulcrafate for the gastritis.
Avatar n tn Does the duct dilatation set off an inflamation of the liver and pancreas and cause the pancreatitis pain? Also can the duct dilatation heal on its own in time? I have no desire to undergo an ERCP as I've heard such nightmare stories from people who have undergone but yet I'm so tired of not feeling good and having pain and just would like to feel good again. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Scaring on pancreas due to an acute pancreatitis attack 5 years ago.
Avatar f tn Often it is due to a Staphyloccus species type of bacteria. But other bacteria can occur in these devices. Pancreatitis is inflammation or swelling of the pancreas and usually isn't infected. But it is also possible to get an infection in an organ. But I believe that it would have to then leak into the blood to get to the knee. Hope this helps?
Avatar f tn Elevated lipase levels are suggestive of pancreatitis, but like any lab value should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical symptoms. Your doctor will be able to help piece this all together.
Avatar f tn I have constant pain in my back and under my rib cage, where my pancreas is located. My doctor says it should eventually stop hurting but it doesn't seem to be improving. My gallbladder has been removed, my blood work is normal and scans of my pancreas show nothing. Does anyone know what it could be? .
Avatar m tn No family history of pancreatitis or cancer of stomache or pancreas. Mother had gall stones removed. No stones noted on my Not depressed, family history of generalised anx disorder. taking Pristiq 50mg 1 day. Very good results. Having an upper/lower gi end next month. 2 past upper/lower gi end 1 in 1997 - ok, one in 2006 was also normal. No pylori noted there.
Avatar m tn In dogs, one danger in severe cases (however slight) is that the swollen pancreas itself blocks not only the pancreatic duct but also the bile duct. Bile from the liver gets stuck in the gallbladder and can't get to the small intestine. I chose to put my dog to sleep after 3 weeks of trying to save his life because his gallbladder was getting so huge a rupture was likely.
Avatar f tn There are people with chronic pancreatitis and I knew a woman last year that had her entire pancreas removed because of it. Since there is a history of cancer has a oncologist checked you out or is this all primary care and/or GI doc? Other things to consider - gall bladder (stones AND functionality), stomach issues like gastritis... I'm sure there are more... Do you have any other symptoms? Good luck and God bless!
Avatar f tn That can only be done in the hospital. I had pancreatitis and was hospitalized for 8 days before the enzymes were low enough for me to leave. They did stay just above normal for two more weeks. Perhaps your enzyme level isn't high enough to require treatment yet. I would keep up on this and see your doctor again soon if the pain continues.
