Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis in child

pancreatitis

Avatar n tn She also has cystic fibros but not bad. Anyway I have been doing a lot of research and idiopaathic pancreatitis has just in the past couple of years been linked to the cystic fibrosis gene. It does not mean your son has CF but this does explain the idiopathic part of it. Log on to http://www/pslgroup.com/dg/ad3e6.htm. As to what the future holds - I have the same questions because we just found out about my daughters pancreatitis. It's ruining her college life.
Avatar n tn Tylenol seems to have no effect. If anyone else has had a child with pancreatitis what did you do to help them understand what they were going through. Also, the pain increases during physical activities I do not want to give her a free pass out of gym class (a class she does not like) but if it could prolong her recovery I would assume she not participate. Any suggestions would be appreciated. One last question how long until the pain begins to go away?
Avatar n tn Thank you for responding. She sees a surgeon at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville TN. When we were searching for a doc we had the option of this surgeon or one in Indiana. I never found out details on the Indiana guy as we were much closer to Nashville. Her surgeon is great. I think he has performed the surgery that my daughter had on about 11 other children.
Avatar f tn I have been doing research online regarding Autoimmune Pancreatitis. I am noticing no case studies done in my sons age group, treatment is corticosteroids/steroid saving therapies, over a prolonged period of time. In all the research i have been reading there is no data regarding long term prognosis , or quality of life in persons with this disorder. Another concern of mine is if he has to go on a steroid long term, what about schooling?
Avatar n tn Since August of 2002, I have experienced four episodes of pancreatitis. In three of the episodes, my lipase levels were anywhere between 25,000 and 35,000. Although I have had my gall bladder removed and had a stent put in my pancreas to open a duct (which has since been removed because I developed sepsis), I continue to have pain in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen. I have regular bouts of putrid diarreha and my feces is polluted with small stones of yellow or brown color.
Avatar n tn In the fall, I began having intermittent pains in my left side that I can only describe as similar to a stitch in your side that you get after running. It is either under my left rib or behind my ribs on the left side. This would happen 1-2 x month. I was evaluated by my family doc in November and he thought it was a muscle strain. 10 days ago, I began having these "episodes" all day.
Avatar f tn My 9 month old puppy was diagnosed with pancreatitis today, they kept him at the vet all day giving him IV fluids. They let us take him home tonight so he was only admitted for about 12 hours.
902019 tn?1249865014 My doctor can't explain the cramps (not in the back which is the usual area for pancreatitis) nor the weight loss (very gradual over time and definitely not from dieting). I have had recent CT Scan and while everything is not completely back to normal (enlarged) it is stable. Doctor not concerned ... apparently that is sometimes what happens in some cases. My original episode was quite severe with significant jaundice, blockage, emergency ERCP etc.
Avatar n tn It feels a knife is sticking in my back. I have to take pain medicine constantly. I have a 2year old child and am very confused. I had to quit my job and my parents are giving me money. I don't know if this is pancreatitis or not. They just told my to be on a low fat diet but I don't know if I should eat at all. I have to take tagament all day long for acid I never had until gallbladder surgery. Can anyone help me.
Avatar f tn Make sure he's checked for autoimmune pancreatitis. In addition, you may want to inquire about the state of his gallbladder as in some cases gallbladder issues and pancreatic issues 'go together.' It's not unknown for a child to have GB problems.
Avatar f tn Our frustration is the doctors are now treating his pain as undiagnosed with a bout of pancreatitis in the middle (can you believe that?) His pediatrician doesn't believe he will find anything when they do the other tests and has booked him as an out patient. because his pain does come and go especially when medicated they felt he should get on with his life and come back for the tests.
Avatar m tn The ERCP, MRI and CT scan can evaluate for many causes of gallstones or gallbladder stones. In cases of refractory pancreatitis, gene mutations may be identified as a possible, uncommon cause. There is some controversy as to specialized testing. Some have suggested Sphincter of Oddi (SO) manometry to evaluate for SO dysfunction. Others have advocated for removal of the gallbladder. Another option is to look outside the pancreas.
Avatar n tn For a doctor, you could post your question on the Gastroentrology forum, there is a doctor over there. I do know pancreatitis can be dangerous to the baby, I think the pancreatitis caused the problems in the pregnancy, as to if the pancreatitis was caused by the vicodin? It is possible I would imagine if she is taking 20 or 40 a DAY but you can get pancreatitis and not be taking vicodin also, so you'd need a lot more info to prove all the things are linked together.
Avatar n tn which i refused to take becase i felt my problem lied elsewhere.
Avatar f tn I have a 12 year old child, she started at 6 with problems. she has been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and sod. she was diagionsed with spinchter of oddi through a ercp and had stents placed several times. She had her gallbladder removed because she had stones. She has had eating issues in the past had to be on ng,nj and tpn before. We were doing so good for a year and a half and now its back. She is pain and is nasueas, the pain gets worse when she eats.
Avatar f tn I am a 32 yr old female, currently pregnant with my 4th child. I am in my 18th week of gestation. I suffered with Pancreatitis in my 35th week of pregnancy during my 3rd preg. I would like to know the chances of this happening again. I didn't have any gallstones and this was not alcohol related. Just a fluke. It caused me to delivery my baby 5 weeks early.
Avatar n tn There are many causes of pancreatitis in childhood , viral etiology including mumps , infectious mononucleosis , influenza A, german measles , and Coxsackie B virus . These would produce a clinical picture of acute pancreatitis with severe epigastric pain , severe enough to cause the child to assume a sitting position , radiating to the back , persistent vomiting and fever . If the pancreatitis is due to a viral uncomplicated infection , the prognosis is good .

They have ran a ultrasound and a xray and blood work which all has come back normal. They tell me there is nothing medical wrong with her, it is all in her head. they say it makes no sense why it came back.
1143850 tn?1413216148 That area is very noisy when I press on it and sometimes I can hear things slushing around if I push my tummy in and out in that spot! I also keep getting stabbing pain in back and side on left side under ribs that lasts only about a second but some days comes frequently. Sometimes I feel clogged up all way to my throat and feel like I need to burp, i get heartburn when bad too. Has ibs since I was a child and I'm generally quite constipated.
Avatar f tn I just gave birth to my second child 2 months ago (my first is 14 months) and I have been diagnosed with thyroiditis (they think it is post partum thyroiditis I am going for testing) and I also had a pancreatitis attack shortly after giving birth to my son a year ago, and one after the birth of my daughter a few weeks ago. Could the pancreatitis be post partum also? I dont drink a ton. I am 27 so it isnt like it has been years of alcohol abuse ...
793908 tn?1294708709 Julie had another Pancreatitis attack...she had diarreah & vomiting. I was prepared this time...I was scared but it was either me treating her or the ER Vet for 4 days again. I came to terms with my decision to treat her at home. I called my Vet & he said to give her the Flagyl that he gave me 2 wks. ago...just in case this attack happened again. I did & It worked after 1 day but I kept her on it all week.
Avatar f tn Round worms can successfully be treated by mebendazole or pyrantel pamoate...It used to be sold in the drug store but your doctor will prescribe it.Here is a link with details www.comeunity ./adoption/health/parasites/ascaris.NIH.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have a son who will be 8 yrs old in July. He has been having frequent stomach pain. This has been going on for awhile. It started about 8 months ago. However, since it was only happening about twice a month and only lasted for a couple of hours beofre going away, we figured that it wasnt anything to worry about. Well, a couple of months ago he began to have stomach pain that lasted all day.
Avatar n tn I've been taking that, and it seemed to help at first, but the last couple of days, I've had aching type pain in the same area that I had the severe pain. Is there anything in particular that aggravates pancreatitis? I don't want to keep doing something I shouldn't be doing. Thanks again!
Avatar n tn I am 35 y.o. female. When I was 10, I was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. I had epigastric pain. I had elevated levels of amylase and I also underwent function testings. My family has no history of chronic pancreatitis. I was treated successfully, was on a strict diet for a couple of years, and then I was symptoms -free for years. Occasionally, I would have periods of mild epigastric pain, they would do ultrasound for my pancreas and see no abnormalities.
Avatar n tn -) The only thing that concerned me when I had mine done was the remote possibility of getting pancreatitis. If the doc is very experienced in doing this procedure, you shouldn't have a problem. I suppose you could ask your doc about the incidents of post-ERCP pancreatitis he has personally seen is his own practice?
Avatar f tn Wanting her moved to a different hospital after being diagnosed with acute pancreatitis that from the beginning came with complications. Angry with her husband for ignoring my pleas to have her transferred to a teaching hospital and now I feel so bad for him. They were married for 48 years come this November and had one child who is agnostic and lives 3,000 miles away for the past 20 years.
Avatar n tn If you are going to have the menometry done you should almost plan on spending a few days in the hospital. The risk for pancreatitis is high with menometry. Pancreatitis is very painful. I did get it, but I can tell you it was worth the pain. Anything to get rid of the pain I had been feeling for a year and a half. Every test I had prior to this came back normal. The Drs started thinking I was making up the pain. The pain was caused from the pressure in the duct.
