Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis forum

Avatar f tn Hi Welcome to the forum! These can be symptoms of pancreatitis. This is easy to diagnose by testing the levels of amylase and lipase, digestive enzymes formed in the pancreas. Changes may also be seen in levels of glucose, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonate. However these symptoms can also be seen in gall stones, hepatitis, duodenal ulcer, gastric reflux and cancers of the stomach. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor.
Avatar n tn Has anyone ever had pancreatitis? I am wondering if I this is what is causing my left side pain under my rib cage. This appears at any time of day or night and lasts several hours. The pain feels like I have been running and got a side ache almost under my breast. My doctor has not suggested this, he is trying to ignore my symptoms for some reason. He found a small liver cyst, 2 weeks ago and then sent me for blood work.
Avatar n tn Cessation of alcohol intake is imperative, particularly if this is the underlying etiology of pancreatitis. Abstinence does not always lead to symptomatic improvement; however, patients with alcohol-induced chronic pancreatitis who continue to drink have increased mortality.
Avatar n tn It's been a while since I have felt the need to post anything on this forum. I had my gallbladder removed in April of 2001. After that I continued to have pains in my right side that would come and go. In November of last year I had an ERCP where they didn't find any stones in the bile duct or anything but ended up with Pancreatitis and hospitalized for 4 days and out of work several weeks.

Avatar n tn I am sorry to hear about your father's condition but there are no doctors on this forum. Have you thought about seeing another Endocrine and Pancreatic doctor for a second opinion?
Avatar f tn Your title is Pancreatitis/Cirrhosis does that mean you have been diagnosed by your doctor with either or both? Those are both serious medical conditions if you have them and must be discussed with your physician. We here are either caregivers or patients with cirrhosis and while we can pass along our experiences, provide support and suggest questions you may want to ask your doctor, we are not medical professionals. I strongly urge you to discuss your concerns with your treating physician.
Avatar n tn I'm a 28 year old mom of 2 young children, and have had Idiopathic Pancreatitis for 5 years now. I have, 2 years ago, discovered that I do have a mutated CF gene that could possibly be causing this problem. Does anyone know of any new treatments for this other than ERCPs? I've had that procedure numerous times and each time it leaves me with a "rip roaring" case of pancreatitis. This is getting old.
Avatar m tn There is currently another thread running on this forum about pancreatitis in a shih tzu. I just a few minutes ago finished a REALLY long post containing information about diets and how to home-cook for your dog to help the pancreatitis. I don't want to spam the board with the same post by re-posting it here. Your dog is very lucky to have such an alert owner! Good catch on your part! Please keep us updated!
Avatar n tn Door, autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is an unusual form of pancreatitis that has only recently been recognized as a distinct disorder. AIP is an unusual form of chronic pancreatitis. The immune system mistakenly attacks healthy pancreas tissue, causing inflammation and hardening. Symptoms closely mimic pancreatic cancer (pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma), but the disease process is different. It can be a multisystem disorder in which the disease can affect other parts of the body.
Avatar m tn I have chronic pancreatitis due to diabetes & a spiked triclyceride count. I heard that weight loss surery helps gets rid of pancreatitis. Is one type better for this problem than another? I am desperate.
Avatar n tn i have been diagnosed with Pancreatitis. Wondering if I can eat fat free cottage cheese or are all dairy off limits. Also yogurt is mentioned but seems like too much sugar, is it okay as well. I have been getting sharp pains after eating a small meal of oatmeal and tuna, is that normal?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Chronic Pancreatitis as a result of gallstones. My gall bladder was removed in 2005 but 3-5 days weekly, I cannot sit upright for more than 20-30 minutes at a time and due to the pain in my lower back - I am required to lay horizontal for the rest of the entire day. Is this due to this illness?
Avatar m tn FYI...this is not the Dr forum...Change this over to there & you should get your answer.
Avatar m tn Hi Jay, Welcome to our Pain Mangement Forum at MedHelp. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post. I am very sorry to hear about your long term pain. You are so young to know the meaning of Chronic Pain. You've asked a tough question. How long has it been since you had a good clinical evaluation? How long has it been since you have had imaging? If it has been more than six months I beleive I would ask for more recent images to see where you are in the disease process.
1825362 tn?1317886753 Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding peg interferon and pancreatitis. I appreciate any response..... and thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn Each time he has pains are they outside warnings that the pancreatitis is eating part of it away? 3. can this progress to cronic pancreatitis and, 4.will he have this the rest of his life? Thank you in advance for any information you can give us regarding this matter. We are very excited to have found this sight where people really do care. Thanks again.
Avatar n tn Hi - Is there anyone in cyperspace that has Cystic Fibrosis that is pancreate sufficient and developed pancreatitis. Would really like to chat with you. Also has anyone with pancreatitis tried antioxidant vitamins such as melatonin, Vit and selenium? Did it help? What is the "10 fingers" mentioned to manage back pain? Once your gall bladder has been taken out has anyone been prescribed Actigal? We have and don't know why since my daughter no longer has a gall bladder.
Avatar f tn My 9 month old puppy was diagnosed with pancreatitis today, they kept him at the vet all day giving him IV fluids. They let us take him home tonight so he was only admitted for about 12 hours.
Avatar n tn I am overweight, have hypothyroidism, and PCOS. I originally posted this in the kidney forum, as my family doctor felt I may have a kidney stone. However, I visited a urologist today who does not feel that I have a kidney stone and prescribed antibiotics for a possible urinary tract infection. However, I am still experiencing intermittent left side pain and have had three bowel movements today that were narrow and gray (almost colorless).
Avatar n tn Wow, First of all, this is a patient to patient forum, with no doctors present. Most of us are Hepatitis C patients, and by no means medical experts. Anything you read here should be validated by a qualified physician. Your husband could have any number of things going on with him; it sounds as if his doctor is moving forward in a methodical manner.
902019 tn?1249865014 I was diagnosed 2 years ago with AIP, have a 25 year history of autoimmune disorders (eosinophilic vasculitis, mild Sjogren's). Usually have done well with prednisone for the various flare-ups but with AIP, still recurring symptoms and the elevated IgG4 periodically. Next step may be Imuran. Is there anyone out there who has had good results with Imuran for autoimmune pancreatitis?
Avatar n tn Thanks for all of your info. This forum is awesome! Howard, you are so right,... being able to talk (write) about our problems to others in similar situations, is a big help. Your analogy about the pancreas being like a sleeping rottwieller, is too funny -- but I'm afraid it's true. I have concluded the same. To Taz, OHMYGOD, ...YEARS TO DIAGNOSE??? I will positively die of pain in the meantime!!!
Avatar n tn I have Chronic Pancreatitis that stemmed from Acute Pancreatitis, I have struggled with relapsing off coc and alcohol, cigarettes. I have had periods of good clean time and then went back. Each time I went back to any of these especially the drinking and smoking, my CP has gotten much worse. Now I weigh 108 lbs and I am going to suffer most likely for the rest of my life. Please advise him to go to AA, as I need to go and stay there myself.
Avatar n tn I have had acute pancreatitis and now have chronic pancreatitis. The lab that tests my bloodwork says that with amylase, anything over 88 is high, lipase, anything over 63 is high. Some labs allow a higher range for both, but even those adjusted levels are less than your daughter's levels. Her lipase is especially high. Her triglycerides are high. Another important indicator. Don't buy it!
Avatar n tn This sounds more like an acute Pancreatitis attack. Chronic Pancreatitis, to my knowledge, does not have the type symptoms you indicate. Acute pancreatitis has high levels of amalase and lipase and is sometimes very critical as this one appears to be. Do a search on the web for acute Pancreatitis for more information than you can read. Then do one on Chronic Pancreatitis and see the differences. Hope things improve.
Avatar n tn Because her blood sugars have been out of control since she was a teenager, she now has developed retinopathy and has begun a series of surgeries. And, she was hospitalized for 5 days last week for pancreatitis. She keeps saying she just wants to give up. I along with close family and friends are trying to be very supportive, but she is not willing to make any changes to her lifestyle. We do not know what to do. Advice?
Avatar f tn I am really sick with pancreatitis and in no way can stop taking narcotics because they allow me to eat. I am 108 lbs. at 5'9" and relapsed about 2 months ago off of coc and alcohol. They wont allow me into treatment because of the meds I take, I just cant focus on stopping something that is allowing me to eat, so I know I need to get back into meetings which is where I had 8 months before I relapsed anyways.
