Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis feline diet

pancreatitis

Avatar m tn I am not quite sure what that type of diet entails but I am willing to listen to all ideas and/or explainations for a diabetic do diet. Like I said earlier, her vet doesn't have any ideas other then the Low Residue rx foods because Sweety has a very sensitive stomach. Or the old stand by of boiled white meat only chicken and veggies such as broccoli or green beans, she hates green beans! I know that she is getting very bored with this food day in and day out but.....
Avatar f tn He is a very sensitive, nervous cat. His labs indicate that he does not have pancreatitis, and overall his lab work looks good. He had a full senior work up, as well as urinanalysis and the test for the pancreatitis (negative). He has been dehydrated, not eating well, nauseated and vomiting. Is the next step to do an ultrasound?
Avatar f tn Vet doesn't think it's neurological, but metabolic. Repeated blood test with special feline pancreatic lipase test for pancreatitis. He ran up the stairs upon returning home. He's still not jumping onto his scratching post, but will onto my lap when I am on a chair or couch. He jumps down fine too. He was already evaluated by an internist 2 weeks ago. She is the one who ran the ultrasounds, and x-rays. There was a professional radiologist report from these images.
Avatar n tn She continues to eat and drink plenty of water everyday. She has been on a special diet (Feline KD) since she was 13yrs old. I'm afraid she might not bounce back this time. 5 years ago, I had an 18 yr old cat named Henri who died from complications from kidney failure. The end was hard on both of us even though I knew she tried to get better because she didn't want to leave me but one day she looked into my eyes and she told me that even though she loved me, she had to leave.
Avatar f tn Kidney issues-checked with blood work, pancreatitis-also blood work, more bad teeth, and believe it or not, constipation. I had a senior kitty that wasn't pooping regularly and it did affect her appetite. My vet said that there should be 1 poop a day. If the vet finds that Mingo has none of these issues going on, then it could be that his metabolism has slowed down with age(it happens to the best of us).
Avatar f tn We are not Vets on this site and can only offer suggestions by our own personal experience. first of all Royal Canin is not a good diet despite what any Vet tells you, it is full of carbs and grains that most cats cannot tolerate. my one cat Sami has dental issues he is on a wet food diet, he sees a dental specialist that INSISTED he be on royal canin to help with his tartar build up...
Avatar n tn I've been hospitalized twice in 3 wks, 5 days than 4 days now home dropping weight and in pain. I was diagnosed with severe chronic Pancreatitis, Duodenumitis, ulcers, gastritis and gastroparesis. When my GI said "you have a paralyzed stomach" I immediately asked "Can that be related to Chiari?" Of course his answer was no.
Avatar f tn My Meezy and I had a recheck with her Vet today after a bout with pancreatitis, so I was also looking for a NEW good diet. Unfortunately the vet seems to think she may be working on Diabetis---I swear it never ends. She has given me a wonderful list compiled by Dr. A Pierson,D VM. I think this is the list you will find on Opus' website. Anyway I have decided on 3 brands -all having 2% carbs, and fairly high in Protien. Avederm Bff Merrick You can read the values on the site of Opus.
Avatar m tn Our former vet suggested 1.25mg of prednisone every other day combined with a special diet - Hill's prescription z/d. We followed this regime for most of his life until about 6 months ago when Hudson started vomiting and having loose stools. A new vet suggested a new diet: Hill's d/d in venison and a stronger course of prednisone: 5mg twice daily for a week, 5mg once daily for a week, then 2.5mg once daily for a week, 2.
931217 tn?1283484935 Pet dogs and cats, however, are now living into their teens quite commonly. Diet is not the only reason for this, but it does not follow that eating raw meat is a positive factor. Most pet animals are not eating raw diets now and live long anyway. Their safer, indoor lives while eating consistent professionally designed commercial diets are one likely reason. That, and better health care than in decades past is another.
12679876 tn?1426981493 They rx it because 1) they are not educated in feline diet, and 2) they believe what the reps tell them, and 3) may even get kick backs. Your best bet is to go with a Grain Free food. I am not sure if the Wureva that CML suggested is grain free or not. There are many brands though that you can find at any Petco or Petsmart, that is. We don't have any other kitties. Jade was our one and only. My life revolved around her health, happiness and well being. I couldn't of handled any more.
1358341 tn?1282213443 • No other protein sources should be made available while feeding ROYAL CANIN Veterinary Diet® feline GREEN PEAS & DUCK FORMULA™ dry or DUCK FORMULA™ in gel can ---> She never ated duck, why don't they do chicken or fish ?
541150 tn?1306037443 IBD, being that it's basically food allergy, is all about diet, so he has told me to get E.N instead of Z.D to see how kitty's body reacts to it. Trust me, if I have to have them perform the endoscopy I will, but the vet isn't too happy about it. He knows which cells are the trouble makers, and he even explained to me how they work, basically how they "think", so lets hope my cat gets better. He is young, and he's got that going for him. Please let us know how your puppy is doing.
Avatar n tn She doesn't have feline HIV or leukemia. He gave her broad spectrum antiobiotics and gave me some to give her now she's back home. But she still won't eat - she's lost loads of weight, and she's still vomiting - though it's only liquid now. The vet didn't tell me how to keep her energy up or feed her with a syringe or anything and I don't htink they supplemented her the whole week!
1560663 tn?1298050127 or what is his normal diet? its more than likely a rapid change in diet that caused the runny poo.
Avatar n tn Hello! I've an 11-year old long-haired feline who has megacolon. We move around quite a bit, and I have had to shuffle him between vets, and am about to shuffle him again. Four years ago, just a few months before we were about to move overseas, he developed a constipation problem. His American vet gave him an enema and put him on stool softeners to be used only occasionally. Once we moved overseas, he had several enemas before his vet put him on liquid paraffin every day.
Avatar f tn I had given her fluids at home and the next day when I brought her for an ultrasound of her abdomen, they thought from an xray that she had possible pancreatitis and had given her more meds for that, she had a large bruise at the site of the fluids. That day her dvm told me she was severely anemic and she thought Angie was dying... the dvm was very upset- she was crying. I took Angie to a speciality hospital where she was given iv fluids, pain killers and tested.
