Avatar n tn My grndmother dies from pancreatic cancer, my father has alcoholic pancreatitis, and my sister has pancreatitis. Many DR. we have talked with say this disease is NOT hereditary but I feel that in many cases it is. My father was an alcoholic most of my life, now recovered he has this lasting effect. His pancreas is severly damaged, the DR said if he drank again it would kill him.
Avatar n tn A lot. Saturday morning I called the vet and they wanted to see her right away for fear of pancreatitis. They drew some blood, gave her some IV antibiotics, and some fluids, though she was not dehydrated. They also gave me some prescription pills to give her at home along with some prescription dog food that we are to feed her a teaspoonfull at a time, a couple times per day.
Avatar n tn Animals, like people, can develop chronic pancreatitis after only one acute attack of pancreatitis. My aunt was able to keep her dog's case managed for many years, with only a couple more hospitalizations. I just want you to be prepared for what you might be up against. So far, Piper's case could be a whole lot worse, so hopefully she'll keep improving and that will be the last time you ever have to deal with this.
902019 tn?1249865014 I was diagnosed 2 years ago with AIP, have a 25 year history of autoimmune disorders (eosinophilic vasculitis, mild Sjogren's). Usually have done well with prednisone for the various flare-ups but with AIP, still recurring symptoms and the elevated IgG4 periodically. Next step may be Imuran. Is there anyone out there who has had good results with Imuran for autoimmune pancreatitis?
Avatar n tn Cindy, The diet necessary for pancreatitis is simply a strict low-fat diet. No oils used in cooking, no red meats due to their high fat content, no alcohol, avoid refined sugars, white flour and white rice, no fried foods. Use no or low fat substitutes for any dairy products, egg beaters for eggs (no yolks), no nuts. Fish, chicken and turkey can be baked, grilled, boiled or sauted, using small quantities of Pam or a similar spray.
Avatar f tn Wouldn't even drink milk, her favorite. Last Tuesday vet said she has pancreatitis from her bloodwork, took her off Prednisone for allergies (he said was one of causes), put her on Hill's I.D. diet, no human snacks, gave her shot of nausea medicine. Right away she ate her dinner, and continued to eat better and better, got well and stayed that way several days.
Avatar n tn sends me for a CT and they say I have divreticulitis. The pancreas looks normal, splean slightly enlarged. Dr. says I also have Pancreatitis, but can't in any way relate the 2 together. Put me on Levaqui and Flagil. Seems to make things better for a while. Continue to have blood work drawn and the pancreatic numbers continue to fall, but the liver enzymes are slightly elevated.. Have a colonoscopy done and all is OK per the Dr., only a small benign polop.
Avatar n tn The location of your pain sounds very much like where mine was located before my first attack of acute pancreatitis. I now have chronic pancreatitis. I also had the yellow stools, either fatty or so oily that they would float. Also had the weight loss and inability to eat. Back ache is also a common complaint, but not everyone gets it. You need a second opinion.
Avatar f tn It seems like I have a problem if I eat too much fat, or not enough. I can't seem to get my diet right in order to correct my system. It seems like what I eat has an effect but I can't seem to predict what is going to work and what won't. Has anybody else had this issue? Any suggestions on how much fat to eat? I'm desperate for my body to equal itself out.
Avatar f tn I give you all this background because in August of this year, I developed pancreatitis. Pain I had NEVER known! I went around for almost 2 months going from doctor to doctor (including my own gastroenterologist) and all blamed it on acid reflux. I kept putting my foot down because I know what acid reflux feels like and this pain was not indicative of acid reflux. Finally, I was referred to a gastroenterologist who was famous in the Dallas area for performing successful ERCPs.
Avatar n tn Hi Hun, I have chronic pancreatitis. I have found information that says to stay away from milk based products. Our diets should consist of carbs like: sweet potatos, peas, lima beans, carrots, black beans, winter squash, turnip, parsnip, garbanzo beans, yam and pumpkin. We can also use garlic, onion, leek, black pepper, ginger, cinnamon, fennel, garlic and nutmeg for seasonings. I have substituted meat for protein with soy protein drinks that are low-fat with low-sugar.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, My 10 yr old dachshund has just had a second bout of pancreatitis a week ago. His first one was in 2011. His. Liver and pancreas are both enlarged and look inflammed. Hes been on loads of antibiotics this past 10 days, IV fluids, etc. He was off food for at least 48 hrs and is now on boiled chicken which he loves. His liver enzymes are high He just started a product called denmarin for liver support yesterday. Its. Prescription milk thistle from the vet.
Avatar n tn aI'm posting this under general gastroenterology instead of Pancreatitis because I don't want something to get missed because of a myopic approach. In 1994, when I was 34 yrs old, I was diagnosed at Duke University Med. with pancreatitis. Pancreatitic and liver enzymes were all above 3000's. Since then I have fought chronic pancreatitis on an almost daily basis. It was considered unknown causes. I don't smoke or drink alcohol or take illicit drugs.
Avatar n tn However, I've done my own little test here -- some days breakfast of skim milk and cereal, some days no milk. Like clockwork, on the days I drink milk in the morning, I get very loose bowels about 1:00 pm. I did some research on the internet and found articles that suggest that intolerance is increased when diary products are eaten with carbohydrates alone and no fat. That is exactly what I was doing. I'll follow up with my GI...but in the meantime am eating no diary...and feeling great!
Avatar f tn I have postponed futher blood tests until this condition absolutely requires it I would like to know if there are any other things I can do to help her like diet I am on a very low income but would wish to improve her diet and give her supplements that might ease the onset of her symptoms. I have stopped putting cereal in her food (mixer) I use a good quality tinned food based on tripe and mix in Hills id.
Avatar n tn faecal elastase test which was in the normal range 230 normal pancreatic function (>200 ug/g) (norm range between 200-500 ug/g) what does it seem like whats going on? how are acalculous cholecystitis/gallbladder dyskinesisi caused?
Avatar f tn I am positive I have Chronic Pancreatitis, but why no weight loss. I retain fluid, I can feel this in my extremities. I have almost constant Diarrhea from IBS. I eat like a normal human being when I dont have flare ups, EX: chicken and fish, low fat dairy and skim milk, Every kind of fruits and veggies, once a week chocolate, No fried foods, No alcohol, No Smoking I cook with Smart Balance everything. Avatar f tn 1) where did this pancreatitis come from, 2) is there any way to tell if it is acute or chronic, 3) what causes it and can it be triggered by things like my uncontrolled diabetes or the cirrhosis of the liver I have, and 4) what diet should I follow? The diet strategies have changed so quickly during this pancreatitis episode I am very confused as to what I need to be doing.
Avatar n tn If this won't eliminate pancreatitis, what other recourse do I have? Diet? low fat - high carbohydrates? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn He is dealing with severe abdominal cramps, runny stool and headaches. One doctor told him that he has chronic pancreatitis. Since we heard this he has been on a fat-free diet. It has not helped! So we have been watching what he eats. When he eats bread or buns it seems to cause the above symptoms. I was wondering if this could be celiac. I was reading that celiac can also cause the above symptoms. I also read that it can lead to fat digestion problems as well.
Avatar n tn Hi, Have you been diagnosed with Chronic or Acute pancreatitis? Are you on enzyme pills to aid in digesting food? Do not take any over the counter medicines with alcohol in it at all. Also, stay away from fried foods, high fat foods, spicy foods. And no O'douls beer. It may say it is alcohol free, but if you read the label it contains .5% alcohol. It may not affect you the night you drink it, but in time, it will get to you. I live on a diet of 25 grams of fat or less a day.
530522 tn?1212922596 I have a daughter with chronic pancreatitis. She breaks out in hives, head to toe, when given the barium; and must be given more meds to counteract that... What an excellent alternative! From the story: "The study found that the images taken of patients who were given whole milk were just as useful as the images that were taken of patients given the diluted barium..." CT Scans "...
Avatar f tn 8 (worse than original). Her diet started out as Hills diet G/D (not K/D because of her pancreatitis). She has lost ~4.5 pounds since she was diagnosed. I have tried a homecooked diet specialized for kidney failure while also considering her pancreatitis. Still struggling to get her to eat. Does anyone have any pointers on how to handle this?
254215 tn?1195096984 I would put her immediately on the herb Milk Thistle (silimarin) at a human adult dose. Milk Thistle is available at heath food stores and some drug stores. She should also be placed on Hepatic Support (which contains choline and inositol among other hepatic protection agents) and Denisyl (contains SAM-E). These latter two should be taken at the highest dose tolerated and should be available from you vet.
Avatar n tn NO PATTERN. I drink milk one day, then an attack. 2 days later I drink the same amount of milk and NOTHING. I have been to a ton of doctors who brush me off(and I went to Dartmouth, I know what i am talking about, so its a slap in the face) Other symptoms are excess salvation, and im really craving large amounts of sugar. no, im not pregnant....
Avatar n tn When I was diagnosed with Acute Pancreatitis I was on a CLEAR LIQUID diet for two weeks. If you find out you do have Pancreatitis you might want to ask your doctor about digestive enzymes. Although it doesn't take the pain completely away, the pain is much more tolerable. Best of luck to you and Happy Holidays!
Avatar n tn I would say that definatly indicates pancreatitis. The last time I was in the hospital for 10 days with my last attack, my amalyse and lipase levels were elevated. I left one hospital, stayed home one day and checked into er with levels of 1999 and 5000. Your friend should likely be there for about 8-10 days and then have a recovery time at home of a few weeks. They may have to stay longer.
